Jeddah Tower, under construction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is designed to rise more than 1,000 metres—far above the 828-metre Burj Khalifa. It has not set a height record: the tower is unfinished, and its exact final height has not been announced. The latest dated construction milestone in the available reporting is 116 floors and about 466 metres, reached by late September 2026.
Which Saudi skyscraper is expected to break the height record?
The project is Jeddah Tower, formerly known as Kingdom Tower. The Council on Vertical Urbanism (formerly the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat) lists its planned architectural height and height to tip as 1,000+ metres. The architect and contractor also describe a tower exceeding 1,000 metres. These are project specifications, not a completed or independently measured height. The Council on Vertical Urbanism project listing identifies the building and its planned dimensions.
For comparison, the Burj Khalifa is 828 metres tall according to the Jeddah Tower architect’s project sheet. On the same broad architectural-height basis, Jeddah Tower is intended to exceed it. The architect’s project sheet gives the comparison and describes Jeddah Tower as a 1,000+ metre design.
“Tallest” depends on the measurement used. The Council on Vertical Urbanism distinguishes architectural height—which includes a spire but excludes antennas, signage, flagpoles and some technical equipment—from height to tip, which counts the highest point regardless of its function. Its project listing gives Jeddah Tower 1,000+ metres in both categories. Until construction is complete and the finished building is measured and ranked, the record remains a projection.

How tall is it now, and what is the latest construction milestone?
MEED reported that Jeddah Tower had reached its 116th floor and approximately 466 metres by late September 2026. The report does not specify a precise measurement date within that period. This is the latest dated height-and-floor milestone in the sources cited here. MEED’s October 2026 interview also says the exact final height had not yet been disclosed.
An earlier update from project engineering firm Dar Al-Handasah said that floor 106 was complete and the tower stood at 430 metres on 31 July 2026. Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, quoted in that update, said: “We have reached a height of 430 meters out of 1000+ m.” That is a project stakeholder’s statement about progress, not confirmation of the building’s final height. Dar Al-Handasah’s 31 July 2026 update records the earlier milestone.

Why is the final height still uncertain?
The tower’s target is described as more than one kilometre, but the exact final figure has not been announced in the cited interview. Asked directly whether the final height could be revealed, the developer’s representative said it was over one kilometre but that they were not ready to disclose the precise height. That makes “1,000+ metres” the supportable description of the plan—not a precise promised figure or a verified completed measurement.
How is Jeddah Tower designed for extreme height?
The tower’s three-legged plan and tapering profile are intended to help manage wind effects at great height. Thornton Tomasetti, the project’s structural engineer, says the team used computational structural modelling and extensive wind-tunnel testing to assess wind loads and building movement. It describes the structure as concrete-based. These are explanations of the design approach from a project team member, not independent verification of how the finished tower will perform. The architect says the tower’s three-petal footprint and tapering wings are intended to reduce structural loading associated with wind vortex shedding. Its form draws on the folded fronds of young desert plants, and the design includes a façade and shaded terraces. Those are design intentions; they do not establish the building’s energy performance once occupied. The architect’s project sheet describes the form and façade features.
What is planned inside the tower?
Jeddah Tower is planned as a mixed-use building with hotel rooms, residences, offices and an observation deck. Published figures differ across project sources, so they should be treated as planned descriptions rather than a final, completed inventory.

The different hotel and residence figures come from separate sources and descriptions; neither should be read as proof that those spaces are open or occupied. The main contractor, Saudi Binladin Group, states an approximate built-up area of 530,000 m². Saudi Binladin Group’s project page gives that area figure.

The cited sources establish that an observation deck is planned, but they do not confirm an opening date, current public access, ticket availability or visitor arrangements. A planned deck is not evidence that the tower is ready to receive visitors.

What does “smash all current height records” actually mean?
It means the project is intended to become the world’s tallest completed building, judged using the relevant architectural-height convention. It does not mean Jeddah Tower currently holds that title, nor that it will surpass every record involving structures measured by different criteria. The project remains under construction, its final height is undisclosed in the cited interview, and its stated 1,000+ metres is a design target rather than an achieved result.
