The proposed Boss JCB facility at 13806 Texas 16 South would be about 24,000 square feet, begin construction on Nov. 16, 2026, and be completed by the end of January 2028, according to a San Antonio Express-News report published Oct. 26. If approved and built as filed, it would be Boss JCB’s second San Antonio location and the city’s second JCB dealership.

The filing identifies Nov. 16, 2026 as the planned construction start and the end of January 2028 as the expected completion date. Those are proposed milestones, not guaranteed opening dates; permitting, site work, supply-chain conditions and final inspections can alter the schedule.

What is happening at JCB’s South Side factory?
JCB’s separate manufacturing project is a roughly $500 million investment on a 400-acre site, with an approximately 1-million-square-foot footprint. JCB has described it as the largest investment in the company’s 80-year history. The company says the plant is intended to put production closer to North American customers, shorten delivery timelines and reduce supply-chain risk.
The latest Express-News update says the facility had a temporary certificate of occupancy and that JCB had begun testing and preparing for production in the first quarter of the following year. A grand opening for the entire plant was slated for the second week of April. Earlier announcements used different targets, including a fall 2026 operational date and end-of-2026 production; those dates should be treated as previous projections rather than the latest schedule.

How many jobs is JCB bringing to San Antonio?
JCB has announced a long-term target of approximately 1,500 jobs at the factory. The San Antonio Report said in March 2026 that JCB planned to hire 600 workers in 2027. David Carver, JCB’s Texas operations director, said the operation would be close to 800 jobs by the time the telehandler program was in place, by the end of the following year. The latest Express-News report did not state how many positions had already been filled.
The employment figures refer primarily to the manufacturing project; the dealership will add its own sales, parts and service positions, but a separate dealership headcount has not been published.

Why is JCB expanding manufacturing in Texas?
JCB says domestic production should improve customer value and make its supply chain more resilient. CEO Richard Fox-Marrs described the project as an investment in U.S. manufacturing as well as a way to strengthen delivery and support. Chairman Lord Anthony Bamford has also pointed to steel costs and tariffs: because construction machines use large amounts of steel, importing complete machines can be expensive, while sourcing more steel in the United States can reduce that exposure.
The San Antonio Report said state, county and city officials assembled incentives and grants worth $32 million. It also reported that Bexar County incentives included a requirement to hire 995 workers by 2027. That county hiring requirement is distinct from JCB’s broader company target of 1,500 factory jobs.

The dealership and plant serve different functions. The factory will assemble specified JCB machines; Boss JCB will handle customer-facing sales and support through the dealer network. Frequently Asked Questions
Will the new dealership be open when the JCB factory starts production?
Not necessarily. The factory is moving through testing and production preparation ahead of the dealership’s proposed January 2028 completion, so the two openings are on different schedules.
Is the $8 million figure the cost of the factory?
No. It refers to the planned Boss JCB dealership. The separate South Side manufacturing plant is described as a $500 million investment.
Can individuals buy JCB machines directly from the San Antonio plant?
JCB’s project information points to its North American dealer network for sales and support. Industrial equipment purchases are generally handled through dealers rather than a consumer storefront at the factory.
What should contractors ask the dealership before ordering equipment?
Ask which models and attachments will be stocked, expected lead times, parts availability, service-bay capacity, warranty handling and technician coverage. Those details have not yet been published for the proposed location.
