Yes—CarbonCure concrete has been used in residential construction, but you cannot generally buy it as a homeowner-direct product. CarbonCure Ready Mix is a process installed and operated by participating ready-mix producers. Your practical route is to order concrete from a local plant that currently uses the technology, then have the supplier and your design professional confirm that its specific mix meets the home’s structural and code requirements.
Documented examples include a residential-mix trial described by CarbonCure and a custom-home foundation in Burnet, Texas, supplied by Lauren Concrete. Those examples prove residential use, not universal coverage. A plant’s participation, delivery area, available mix designs, order terms and project documentation must be checked for the address where your concrete will be placed.

CarbonCure is not a bagged concrete product, a homeowner-installed attachment or a generic admixture that you add on site. It is a producer-side system integrated into ready-mix manufacturing. CarbonCure says the process introduces captured carbon dioxide into freshly mixed concrete; the CO2 reacts and becomes a solid mineral, calcium carbonate. In the 2016 ready-mix case study, liquid CO2 was metered into a truck drum while the concrete was loaded and mixed. The injection equipment and operating controls belong at the concrete plant, so a homeowner normally accesses the technology through a participating supplier.
That distinction matters when you call for a quote. Asking for “eco-friendly concrete” may produce several unrelated options. Ask specifically whether the plant currently produces concrete using CarbonCure, and identify the exact mix required by your plans. A sustainability page or a company’s general statement about low-carbon concrete does not by itself establish that every plant, strength class or residential order is available.

CarbonCure’s residential-mix case study
CarbonCure’s Ready Mix Technology Case Studies describes samples taken from trucks carrying 9 yd³ of residential concrete designed for 3,000 psi. The mixture used Portland cement, Class F fly ash and slag. The document reports testing and describes the producer’s production process; it does not establish that 9 yd³ is a minimum order, a recommended quantity for a house or a specification that applies to every residential placement.
The case study was published in December 2016 and includes a cumulative company statement through January 2020: more than 4 million cubic yards had been produced with CarbonCure and more than 63,000 tons of CO2 emissions had been avoided. Those are historical, company-reported figures. They should not be read as current totals or as an estimate of the emissions reduction from one particular home.

Lauren Concrete’s Low-Carbon Concrete page identifies a “Kingsland Ranch Custom Home” in Burnet, Texas, whose foundation used CarbonCure concrete. The same page invites customers to ask about availability at a Lauren Concrete location. This is direct evidence that a residential foundation was supplied through a ready-mix producer, while also showing why location matters: the page describes that producer’s service and does not promise access outside its delivery network.
Additional producer adoption is not the same as an open residential order
Kilsaran’s CarbonCure page describes a partnership and says the company was installing additional systems at two ready-mix plants in Dublin, with a plan to expand to other locations over the following year. The wording documents planned producer adoption; it does not confirm that installation is complete now, that a particular plant accepts house orders, or that every mix is offered. Treat each supplier’s current plant list and quotation as the controlling information.

How to find out whether you can get it for your project
Use the project address and the structural requirements as your starting points. The following sequence avoids the most common assumptions.
- List plants that can deliver to the site. Ask your builder, concrete contractor or local ready-mix directory for suppliers whose trucks serve the project address. A plant that uses CarbonCure elsewhere may not deliver to your location.
- Ask the specific availability question. Say: “Does the plant serving this address currently produce ready-mix concrete using CarbonCure?” Ask which plant would batch the order, rather than relying on a corporate sustainability statement.
- Describe the required mix. Provide the specified compressive strength, placement type, slump or workability requirements, air entrainment if required, exposure class, aggregate limitations, admixtures and any minimum or maximum water-to-cementitious-material ratio. A supplier must confirm that its CarbonCure mix can meet those requirements.
- Confirm service and order terms. Check delivery radius, available truck capacity, minimum order or partial-load charges, dispatch timing, weekend or staged-pour availability, washout arrangements and the consequences of a delayed pour. The 9 yd³ figure in CarbonCure’s case study is a sample quantity, not a published residential minimum.
- Request technical documentation. Ask for the proposed mix design, recent qualification or strength information the supplier can provide, product data and any CarbonCure mix-design submittal. Give those documents to the builder, architect or structural engineer before ordering.
- Obtain written confirmation. Have the supplier identify the producing plant, mix designation, design strength, quantity, delivery date and any conditions on availability. Keep the quotation and submittal with the project records.
What your designer and builder must verify
CarbonCure use does not automatically approve a mix for a particular foundation, slab, wall or frame. The concrete still has to satisfy the governing project documents and applicable building requirements. CarbonCure’s contractor resource library includes a mix-design submittal and guidance for incorporating the technology into specifications. Use those materials as part of the normal submittal process, not as a substitute for the design professional’s review.
CarbonCure’s Ready Mix Durability FAQ notes that prescriptive requirements can make adoption difficult. Examples include a minimum cement content or a strict water-to-cement ratio, even when a specification does not expressly prohibit CO2 use. Your engineer should check the complete specification, including strength-development assumptions, durability exposure, curing, temperature, reinforcement protection and testing provisions. If a jurisdiction or owner specification requires a particular cementitious-material content, the supplier may need an approved alternate or the project may not be able to use the proposed mix.
What is known about performance
CarbonCure’s 2021 FAQ reports that its own testing has observed compressive-strength improvements in some mixes and says those improvements may allow reductions in cementitious materials. It also discusses compatibility with commonly used supplementary cementitious materials and admixtures. These are vendor-authored statements, not independent verification of every mix. Results depend on the cement, supplementary materials, aggregate, admixture package, batching controls, curing and testing protocol used for your order.

The same FAQ says CarbonCure had been used in thousands of mixes around the world and that commonly used admixtures—including plasticizing, high-range water-reducing, air-entraining and set-accelerating products—had been used with it. That statement appears in a 2021 document and is not a current independent market count. It also does not guarantee compatibility with the exact admixtures or proportions selected for your house.
CarbonCure describes its objective this way: “CarbonCure Ready Mix enables concrete producers to reduce the carbon footprint of their concrete mixes without compromising on quality or performance.” The sentence is a CarbonCure claim. For a home project, the meaningful question is whether the proposed, documented mix meets the engineer’s acceptance criteria—not whether the technology carries a general performance promise.

Questions to put to a ready-mix supplier
- Which plant will batch this order, and is CarbonCure operating at that plant on the requested pour date?
- Can you supply the specified strength and exposure class with the required cementitious materials, water-to-cementitious-material ratio, air content, slump and aggregate size?
- Can you provide a signed mix-design submittal and supporting test information for the proposed mixture?
- Have you used this mix with the admixtures and supplementary cementitious materials specified by the project?
- What quantity can you deliver, and what are the minimum-load, partial-load, cancellation and standby terms?
- How far is the delivery route, and what discharge time and truck rotation can you commit to for a continuous foundation or slab pour?
- What documentation will identify the CarbonCure mix on tickets, batch records and the final project file?
Ask the supplier to distinguish between a mix that is technically possible and one that is currently scheduled and commercially available. A plant may have the equipment but lack the requested raw materials, production slot, delivery capacity or approval for a particular specification.

Availability can change with plant maintenance, captured-CO2 supply, cement and supplementary-material inventories, seasonal demand and the distance to the jobsite. Confirm the order shortly before the pour and again when the dispatch schedule is set. If the supplier cannot provide the specified mix, your design team—not the delivery driver—must decide whether a conventional mix or an approved alternative is acceptable.
A practical decision path for common home projects
Foundation walls, footings and slabs
Start with the structural drawings and geotechnical or code-driven requirements. Foundations often have requirements for strength, exposure, water permeability, air content, reinforcement cover and placement sequence. Give the supplier the complete specification and ask for a CarbonCure mix that is qualified for those conditions. Do not substitute the 3,000 psi residential case-study mix merely because its strength label appears similar; the rest of the project requirements may differ.
Driveways, patios and other nonstructural work
These placements may have different design and exposure requirements, but they still need a suitable mix, delivery quantity and finishing plan. Confirm whether the local plant offers a CarbonCure mixture for the intended use instead of assuming that a technology used in a foundation is automatically offered for every exterior or decorative mix.
Custom homes with sustainability documentation
If lower embodied carbon is part of an owner’s goal or a certification submission, request the supplier’s product information and project records before the pour. Your architect or sustainability consultant can determine what documentation is acceptable. A general statement that CO2 was used is not the same as a verified project calculation; the calculation method and boundaries must be agreed with the program or owner.
When the answer is no
You may not be able to obtain CarbonCure concrete if no participating plant serves the site, the plant does not offer the required strength or exposure class, the requested delivery quantity is outside its operating terms, or the design professional cannot approve the proposed mix. In those cases, ask the engineer and supplier about an approved conventional mix or another documented low-carbon option. Do not alter cement content, water or admixtures in the field to imitate a plant-produced CarbonCure mixture.
Bottom line for a homeowner
CarbonCure concrete is available for some residential construction because residential mixes and a named custom-home foundation have been documented. Access is local and producer-specific: the homeowner orders through a ready-mix plant, not from CarbonCure as a retail product. Contact suppliers that deliver to your site, verify that the relevant plant is currently operating the system, obtain the exact mix submittal and delivery terms, and have your builder and design professional approve compliance before you schedule the pour. No source establishes universal residential coverage, a current nationwide supplier count or a standard price, so those details must be confirmed for your project.
