iRobot’s Eight-Roomba Launch Explained: The 2025 Models and What Changed in 2026

iRobot’s “eight new robot vacuums” announcement was made on March 11, 2025—not in 2026. The rollout covered the Roomba 105, 205, Plus 405 and Plus 505 families, with availability beginning March 18 in North America and selected European markets. The eight-product total is best understood as a count of model and dock variants. iRobot later added the Max 705 Vac and Combo in 2025, followed by five more Roomba models announced on July 7, 2026.

That makes the original announcement important, but not a complete description of iRobot’s current range.

The eight products in the 2025 rollout

iRobot described the March 2025 announcement as its largest product launch in company history. Its official announcement grouped products into families, while the commonly cited eight-product count appears to include these configurations:

  • FULLY CUSTOM & TARGETED CLEANING. Schedule and target rooms based on your daily routine and adjust the number of cleaning passes and levels of suction power.
  • EASY-TO-USE ROOMBA HOME APP. Simply tap to set a custom clean, get time estimates, check on the filter life, or create keep-out zones to avoid specific areas.

How the families differ

Roomba 105: the basic entry point

The 105 family is aimed at buyers who want a relatively straightforward robot vacuum or vacuum-and-mop machine. iRobot claims up to 70 times more power-lifting suction than its Roomba 600-series robots. That is a manufacturer comparison, not an independently verified universal performance result.

The important choice is between vacuum-only and Combo versions, then between a robot bin and an AutoEmpty dock. The dock costs more but reduces routine emptying. A 105 without AutoEmpty is the simpler option for smaller homes, lighter debris loads or buyers who do not mind emptying the bin themselves.

Roomba 205 DustCompactor: fewer external dock requirements

The 205’s defining feature is DustCompactor technology, which mechanically packs debris into the onboard compartment. iRobot promotes this as enabling long periods between emptying, potentially measured in months for some households.

That interval depends on floor area, cleaning frequency, pets, shedding and the amount of dirt collected. A pet-heavy or high-traffic home will fill the compartment faster. The 205 can therefore appeal to buyers who want more capacity without placing an AutoEmpty station on the floor, but it does not eliminate maintenance.

Roomba Plus 405 Combo: automated mop care at a lower tier

The Plus 405 is a vacuum-and-mop model supplied with an AutoWash dock. Its value is less about the model number than the automation around mopping: the dock is designed to handle debris and wash and dry the mop pads.

This reduces daily intervention, but an AutoWash dock is not maintenance-free. Owners still need to manage clean and dirty water, clean the dock, replace consumables and deal with filters, brushes and mop pads. It also requires more floor space than a robot that returns to a basic charging station.

Roomba Plus 505 Combo: edge cleaning and a more capable dock

The Plus 505 adds iRobot’s PerfectEdge Technology, in which a mop pad extends toward edges and corners. Its multifunction AutoWash dock is designed to empty debris, wash and heat-dry mop pads, and clean itself.

iRobot Roomba Plus 505 Combo Robot Vacuum & Mop with AutoWash Dock - Extending Spinning Mop Pads, Self-Empties, Pad Wash & Heated Drying, Self-cleaning, Recognizes & Avoids Obstacles, LiDAR Navigation
  • DEEP DOWN AND WALL-TO-WALL. Advanced DualClean Mop Pads with PerfectEdge extend floor-mopping coverage by 18%* and SmartScrub adds 2x deeper scrubbing** to wipe out tough messes. *Compared to unextended DualClean Mop Pad**Compared to standard vacuum & mop mode on coffee & grime
  • STRONG SUCTION SERIOUS MOPPING. Devours messes from crumbs to pawprints with 70x more suction*, DualClean Mop Pads with PerfectEdge, SmartScrub, a multi-surface rubber brush, and edge-sweeping brush. *As compared to Roomba 600 series robots
  • CLEARVIEW PRO LIDAR. Expertly maps your home to maximize coverage and clean thoroughly, day or night- Plus, specialized sensors ensure Roomba robot won't take a tumble down stairs.
  • PRECISIONVISION AI TECHNOLOGY. Immediately recognizes cords, socks, even pet waste, and swiftly navigates around them. Identifies wet & dry messes ahead and repeats cleaning passes for a more thorough clean.
  • AUTOWASH DOCK DOES IT ALL. 75 days of auto-emptying, 4 weeks of mopping and pad washing*, continuous pad refreshing, and heated pad drying ensure an ultra-effective clean day after day. *Based on 1 mopping run per week

The practical reason to choose the 505 over the 405 is the combination of edge-focused mopping and greater dock automation—not simply a larger suction claim. It is most relevant to homes with substantial hard flooring and users willing to accept the dock’s higher price, footprint and maintenance needs.

What changed technically?

ClearView LiDAR Navigation

iRobot says the new lineup uses ClearView LiDAR Navigation for mapping. LiDAR can help a robot create repeatable room maps, plan routes and navigate in low light. It does not, by itself, prove that a robot will clean better, avoid every obstacle, offer a better app or be more reliable than a competing model.

Object sensing and PrecisionVision AI

iRobot also says the new robots include object sensing and avoidance, with PrecisionVision AI Technology available on select models. Those capabilities should not be treated as identical across the entire range. Check the specification for the exact model and region.

Even advanced systems can encounter problems with cords, socks, toys, reflective surfaces, pet accidents and clutter. Preparing floors before a run remains worthwhile.

More automated docking

The range spans three distinct approaches:

  • No external emptying dock: lower cost and smaller footprint, but more manual emptying.
  • AutoEmpty Dock: less frequent bin emptying, with bags or other dock maintenance to consider.
  • AutoWash Dock: adds mop washing and drying, but increases cost, noise, water handling, footprint and cleaning obligations.

The later Roomba Max 705 models

The Max 705 Vac and Max 705 Combo were announced separately later in 2025, so they should not be casually folded into the original March eight-model count. The Max 705 Combo was positioned as a premium vacuum-and-mop model with heated mopping, an AutoWash dock, stronger suction and a cover intended to protect carpets from wet mopping. Its initial availability was regional and staggered.

What iRobot added in 2026

On July 7, 2026, iRobot announced five additional Roomba models for the North American market:

Sale
iRobot Roomba 415X Robot Vacuum & Mop Combo, 20,000Pa, 90 Days Self-Emptying, Multifunction Dock Self-Cleaning & Hot Dry, Smart Obstacle Avoidance, Lifting Spinning Mops, Ideal for Pet Hair
  • CLEAN FLOORS EVERY DAY—WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT IT. The Roomba Plus 415X vacuums and mops in one run, stopping crumbs, dust, and spills before they turn into stuck‑on messes. With 20,000 Pa and DualClean mop pads, your floors stay visibly clean from morning and night.
  • NO MORE SCRUBBING DRIED‑ON MESSES. SmartScrub applies extra pressure exactly where messes are stubborn—breaking down dried food, muddy paw prints, and kitchen splatter, so you never have to scrub by hand again.
  • REACHES THE PLACES DIRT USUALLY HIDES. A 46% slimmer design* fits under more furniture, while extending brushes pull debris from edges and corners—so dust doesn’t collect where traditional robots miss. *Compared to Roomba 105
  • GREAT FOR HOMES WITH PETS. Tangle‑free rubber brushes capture pet fur without clogging, eliminating constant stops to cut hair off the brush.
  • EVERY CLEAN STARTS WITH A FRESH MOP—NOT YESTERDAY’S DIRT. The AutoWash Dock washes and heat‑dries mop pads at 113°F after every run, preventing odors and buildup so floors aren’t cleaned with yesterday’s dirt.
  • Roomba Max 775 Combo + AutoWash Dock
  • Roomba Max 715 Vac + AutoEmpty Dock
  • Roomba Plus 575 Combo + AutoWash Dock
  • Roomba Plus 515 Combo + AutoWash Dock
  • Roomba Plus 415 Combo + AutoWash Dock

iRobot says the Plus 415, 515 and 575 are 46% smaller than previous generations and can reach areas with as little as 9 cm of clearance. Those are manufacturer specifications to check against the exact regional product page, especially if low furniture is the reason for upgrading.

The 2026 announcement also included the Roomba Electro Plus, listed with a $399.99 MSRP. It is a cordless, user-operated hard-floor cleaner—not a robot vacuum—and should not be counted among either the original eight or the five new robot models.

Which type makes sense for your home?

Your priority Most relevant direction Trade-off
Mostly carpet and minimal water handling Vacuum-only 105, 205 or Max 715 No robot mopping
Mixed floors on a tighter budget 105 Combo More manual bin and mop care without the larger dock
Longer intervals between emptying 205 DustCompactor or an AutoEmpty model Different maintenance systems still require attention
Hands-off routine mopping Plus 405 or 505 with AutoWash Higher cost, water handling and dock upkeep
Edges and corners on hard floors Plus 505 PerfectEdge is a feature claim, not a guarantee of manual-scrub performance
Very low furniture 2026 Plus 415, 515 or 575, if available in your market Verify the exact height and dock dimensions

Robot mopping is best viewed as maintenance cleaning. Dried stains, sticky spills, grout and heavily textured floors may still need manual work. Buyers should also measure clearance beneath beds and sofas, dock width and depth, doorway transitions, thresholds and the open space around the dock.

Check the official iRobot U.S. vacuum store before buying. Prices, suffixes, bundles, replacement parts and availability can change by country. The 2025 rollout began in North America and selected European markets; the five-model 2026 announcement specifically referred to the North American market.

Important caveats before buying

  • Marketing claims such as “70× more suction,” “months” of debris storage, deep scrubbing and advanced automation need to be read in context.
  • Automated docks reduce chores; they do not remove the need for water, waste, pad, filter and dock maintenance.
  • Do not assume an older roller, bag, mop pad or dock is compatible. Check iRobot’s model-specific parts and support information.
  • Regional model names and bundles may differ, so compare the exact product number rather than only the family name.
  • Homes with cords, toys, clutter or difficult thresholds may still produce navigation failures.
  • A Roomba may be poor value if you already own a capable robot, want the lowest possible price or expect robot mopping to replace manual cleaning.

iRobot also emerged from court-supervised restructuring in January 2026 after a difficult financial period and acquisition by Picea. That is relevant context for readers considering long-term support and software continuity, but it is not evidence that existing customers will lose support.

Bottom line

The “eight new robot vacuums” story describes iRobot’s March 2025 105–505 rollout, counted across model and dock variants. The meaningful buying differences are cleaning mode, debris handling, mop automation, edge cleaning, navigation hardware and physical fit—not the number printed on the robot. In 2026, the newer Max 775, Max 715 and Plus 415/515/575 models also need to be considered, while the Electro Plus remains a separate handheld hard-floor cleaner.
