Short answer: The Braava jet m6 can mop an entire mapped hard-floor level, room by room, but it is not a vacuum and it cannot clean every surface in every home. Announced on May 30, 2019, it uses camera-based mapping, room controls and recharge-and-resume to maintain suitable sealed floors. Its strongest use case is as a dedicated mop paired with a compatible Roomba—not as a modern all-in-one cleaning robot.
What the Braava jet m6 is
iRobot introduced the Braava jet m6 on May 30, 2019, as its flagship dedicated robot mop. It added iAdapt 3.0 navigation, vSLAM visual navigation, Imprint Smart Mapping, room labeling, Keep Out Zones and room-specific cleaning to the Braava range. The announcement presented it as a companion to Roomba i7 and s9 vacuums rather than simply a larger Braava jet 240. Read the original announcement.
Despite the “entire home” wording, the practical promise is narrower: an entire mapped hard-floor level that the robot can safely reach and navigate. It does not climb stairs, clean carpet, or guarantee coverage through cluttered rooms, difficult thresholds or changing furniture layouts.
How it cleans
Wet mopping
Attach a disposable or washable wet pad and fill the tank with water or an iRobot-approved solution. The Precision Jet Spray applies liquid in front of the robot, while the pad follows behind to loosen and collect surface dirt. iRobot says the spray is designed to avoid furniture, rugs and walls. This is maintenance mopping, not powered scrubbing for set-in stains.

Dry sweeping
A dry pad uses electrostatic attraction to collect dust, dirt and pet hair. There is no suction motor, brushroll or carpet-vacuum function. Carpets, rugs, loose debris and embedded dirt still require a vacuum.
Suitable floors
- Finished hardwood, sealed tile, stone, vinyl and linoleum are typical candidates.
- Check the flooring manufacturer’s instructions before wet cleaning unsealed, waxed, damaged or water-sensitive surfaces.
- Do not use arbitrary household cleaners. Use only products approved for the robot and compatible with the floor finish.
How whole-level mapping works
The m6 learns a floor plan with its camera-based navigation and stores an Imprint Smart Map. In the iRobot Home app, you can label rooms, schedule recurring jobs, target selected areas and create Keep Out Zones. You can choose the whole mapped level or specific rooms after the map is usable. See iRobot’s product description.

Mapping is a process, not an instant guarantee. Keep the Home Base in its permanent location, open doors to rooms you want included and allow an uninterrupted learning run. Repeatedly lifting the robot, moving the dock, blocking passages or substantially rearranging furniture can produce incomplete or unreliable maps. A third-party troubleshooting report also identifies interruptions, poor lighting and dirty sensors as possible contributors to mapping failures; treat those as reported field issues rather than an official lighting requirement. See the troubleshooting report.
Carpet, rugs and stairs
Sensors and map data are intended to keep the m6 from wet-mopping carpet, and the app lets you define Keep Out Zones. Cliff-detection sensors are designed to prevent falls at stairs and other drop-offs. Neither safeguard is infallible: unusual rug textures, dark or reflective areas, incomplete maps, cables, clutter and floor transitions can confuse navigation. Remove delicate rugs during initial mapping and use app exclusions for vulnerable areas.

Does it vacuum first?
No. The m6 is a mop and dry sweeper. With a compatible Roomba, iRobot’s Imprint Link can automate a sequence:
- The Roomba vacuums the selected rooms or mapped area.
- The Roomba returns to its dock.
- The Braava jet m6 starts mopping.
Compatibility is limited to selected Roomba i, j and s series models and can change with app or firmware updates, so check iRobot’s current compatibility information before buying. The m6 does not independently provide the vacuum-then-mop workflow.

Initial setup and first wet run
- Place the Home Base near power with clear access and leave it there.
- Install the iRobot Home app, connect the m6 to Wi-Fi and charge it.
- Attach the wet-mopping or dry-sweeping pad.
- For wet cleaning, fill the tank with water or approved solution.
- Remove cables, toys, clothing, pet bowls and loose rugs; check that floors are sealed.
- Start the initial mapping or cleaning run with target-room doors open.
- Do not lift the robot or move the dock while it learns.
- Review the resulting map, label rooms and add Keep Out Zones.
- Create room schedules or select the mapped level for whole-level cleaning.
- If you own a compatible Roomba, configure the linked vacuum-then-mop routine.
The robot selects wet-mopping or dry-sweeping behavior from the attached pad. It still requires you to fill the tank, change or wash pads and prepare the floor before jobs.
Limitations that change the buying decision
- No vacuuming: A separate vacuum is required for carpets and debris.
- No self-cleaning dock: It does not empty dirty water, wash or dry pads, or refill its tank.
- Multiple levels: It does not autonomously travel between floors; separate mapping and manual relocation may be needed.
- Navigation obstacles: Raised thresholds, thick rugs, narrow gaps, vents, cables and furniture can block coverage.
- Pets and spills: Remove solid or wet pet messes and sticky spills first; a robot can spread them.
- Floor safety: Unsealed wood, delicate finishes and water-sensitive surfaces may be damaged by wet cleaning.
- App dependence: Mapping, schedules, room selection and Roomba linking rely on the iRobot account and app ecosystem.
- Long jobs: Recharge-and-resume can continue a large job, but “complete” still depends on access, a reliable map and manual preparation.

Who should buy the m6?
It makes sense when
- Your home has substantial sealed hard flooring and a relatively open, stable layout.
- You already own a compatible Roomba and want automated vacuum-then-mop routines.
- Room-by-room scheduling matters more than deep scrubbing.
- You accept manual tank filling, pad washing or disposable-pad costs.
Choose something else when
- Your home is mostly carpet or you want one device to vacuum and mop.
- You expect automatic water filling, dirty-water disposal, mop washing or drying.
- Your floors are unsealed, delicate or not approved for damp cleaning.
- You have heavy debris, frequent large pet messes or sticky spills requiring agitation.
- You dislike consumables, app dependence or maintaining two robots.
Dedicated mop versus newer alternatives
The m6’s advantages are its dedicated mop design, low profile, simple pad system and integration with selected Roomba vacuums. Its disadvantages are equally important: a separate vacuum is mandatory for carpet and debris, the dock provides no water or pad automation, and ownership adds another battery, dock and consumables.
Modern Roborock, Ecovacs DEEBOT and Dreame vacuum-mop systems generally target buyers who want one machine with integrated vacuuming and, on premium models, self-emptying, water management, mop washing and drying. Exact model features, prices, warranty terms and service availability vary and should be checked on the manufacturer’s current buying pages. A manual spray mop or powered floor scrubber remains cheaper and better for supervised deep cleaning, though it cannot provide unattended scheduled maintenance.

Bottom line
The Braava jet m6 is a capable map-based maintenance mop for sealed hard floors. “Mops your entire home” is accurate only when narrowed to an accessible, mapped hard-floor level. It is most compelling as the second half of a compatible Roomba system; buyers starting from scratch or demanding self-washing, self-refilling automation should compare the combined Roomba-and-Braava cost with a current all-in-one vacuum-mop robot.
