IKEA’s Phone Sleep Collection was a limited promotional campaign launched in the United Arab Emirates in October 2025. The miniature IKEA-style bed used NFC as part of an app-linked experience that encouraged customers to put their phones away for seven hours a night, seven nights in a row, potentially qualifying them for an IKEA voucher.
What was IKEA’s mini phone bed?
The Phone Sleep Collection consisted of miniature beds designed to hold smartphones. The objects were reportedly made using 3D printing and recycled materials, and were intended to turn putting a phone away at bedtime into a small nightly ritual.

This was a promotional activation, not a standard IKEA furniture line. The campaign connected the phone ritual to IKEA’s full-size sleep business and its Complete Sleep Collection. Ogilvy’s campaign case study and The One Club campaign entry describe the concept and its purpose.
How the NFC and app experience worked
Based on the public campaign description, the miniature bed did not continuously monitor sleep. NFC appears to have identified or activated the phone-bed experience, while the IKEA app handled the qualifying session and reward process.

NFC is a short-range identification and triggering technology. It does not, by itself, measure sleep quality, sleep stages, heart rate, or whether someone has actually fallen asleep.
What it did—and did not—track
The most accurate description is that the campaign tracked how long the phone remained put away or “tucked in.” It did not publicly establish that the user was asleep during that period.
- It was not a clinical sleep monitor.
- It was not a wearable-style sleep-stage or heart-rate tracker.
- It was not documented as a wireless charger.
- It was not a timed lockbox or physical phone locker.
- It did not prove that the user avoided another phone, tablet, laptop, or television.
The available reporting mentions iPhone Motion & Fitness permissions, but the public material does not fully explain the Android implementation, how continuously phone use was detected, or whether the system primarily relied on elapsed time between activation and removal. Those technical details should not be overstated. See the MacRumors report for the publicly described workflow.

Reported eligibility required an in-store IKEA purchase of at least AED 750, including an item from IKEA’s Complete Sleep Collection. The campaign required seven hours per night for seven consecutive nights. Because voucher values, dates, redemption rules, and eligibility terms can change, these conditions should not be treated as an active offer without confirmation from IKEA UAE.
Readers outside the United Arab Emirates should not expect to find the miniature bed in ordinary IKEA stores or on IKEA’s website in their country. There is no evidence in the reviewed sources that it was offered through IKEA’s U.S. retail operation or as a regular product line as of August 18, 2026.
Why IKEA created it
IKEA’s 2025 Sleep Report identifies phone use in bed as a significant obstacle to rest. The report says that 72% of people use phones in bed; that is IKEA’s own survey finding and should not be treated as a universal global statistic without its methodology and sample context.
The campaign’s behavioral idea was simple: telling people to stop scrolling can feel abstract, while putting the phone to bed first creates a memorable physical cue. The reward added an incentive to repeat the behavior, while also directing attention toward IKEA’s sleep products.

Did the campaign work?
Campaign-award material reports 41,427 sleep sessions, an average of 4.6 sessions per user, and an average session duration of 5.7 hours. These are campaign-reported engagement figures from The One Club entry, not independently audited clinical or behavioral-health results.
The figures show that people participated in the activation. They do not demonstrate that users actually slept for the full session, experienced better sleep quality, reduced long-term screen dependence, or continued the behavior after the voucher incentive ended.

Charging remains a problem
The miniature bed was not documented as a charger. Someone who needs to charge overnight may still need a separate cable, power bank, or charging location.

Notifications can defeat the ritual
A phone that remains within sight can still invite checking. Do Not Disturb, Sleep Focus, or an equivalent bedtime mode can reduce interruptions, but those controls were separate from the IKEA campaign.

Another device can replace the phone
The bed creates distance from one phone, not from every screen. A user can still switch to a tablet, laptop, secondary phone, or television.
Removal may interrupt eligibility
Calls, emergencies, accidental movement, or a need to use the phone elsewhere could interrupt a session. The exact treatment of interruptions depends on the campaign’s app rules.
What to use instead
The campaign’s useful mechanism was not the miniature furniture or NFC. It was the added distance and friction between the user and the phone.

- Use a standalone alarm clock so the phone does not need to sit beside the bed.
- Enable Sleep Focus, bedtime mode, or scheduled Do Not Disturb.
- Use a regular tray, box, or container as a nightly “phone bed.”
- Choose a physical lockbox if stronger friction is necessary.
For UAE shoppers, a simple phone holder or tray can recreate the visual ritual without pretending to track sleep. IKEA UAE’s desk-accessories catalog includes phone holders such as the KRUBBET. A standalone clock can support charging the phone elsewhere; IKEA UAE lists clocks in its wall and table clocks category.
These alternatives are not medical interventions, and better bedroom furniture alone will not control phone use. The practical goal is to make the unwanted action—reaching for the phone—slightly less convenient.
The bottom line
IKEA’s mini NFC phone bed was a clever, genuine UAE marketing campaign, not a globally available product or a verified sleep-tracking device. It used NFC and an app to encourage seven-hour phone-away sessions across seven nights, with a possible voucher as the incentive. Its strongest idea was behavioral: create a physical bedtime ritual for the phone. Its central limitation was just as clear—the system could track the phone’s placement or qualifying period, but it could not prove that the user was asleep.
