It is an IKEA-branded product, so it is not unbranded, and the sources reviewed do not establish that it is the best option for a daily brew. The IHÄRDIG listing that sometimes appears in searches is a spice mill, not coffee equipment.
What “unbranded” means in this case
People searching for an unbranded IKEA coffee grinder usually want one of two things: a grinder that is not tied to a brand name, or a grinder sold by IKEA without a stated brand on the product. The METALLISK is an IKEA product, so the first meaning does not apply. If you want a grinder with no brand at all, you will need to look at other manufacturers’ manual grinders and compare them on the criteria later in this article.
METALLISK: what the instruction manual documents
The IKEA Australia instruction manual for the METALLISK coffee grinder stainless steel describes a hand-operated grinder for whole coffee beans. The manual’s use sequence is:
- Add whole beans to the grinder’s hopper.
- Grind the beans by turning the mechanism by hand.
- Set coarseness with the adjustment wheel. The manual uses the wheel to control how fine or coarse the grounds are.
- Remove the base (collector) from the grinder.
- Pour the grounds from the base into your coffee maker.
Because the manual describes a single adjustment wheel for coarseness, the practical question for a daily brew is whether that range suits your method, such as drip, pour-over, or a French press. The manual does not state a numeric grind range, so you should test a few settings with your own beans and brewer.

Cleaning the METALLISK
The manual’s cleaning instructions say to unscrew the adjustment wheel and remove the ceramic grinding cone, then clean the parts in hot water. Keep the grinder dry between uses and follow the manual’s order of disassembly, since the cone is the part that does the grinding.
Do not confuse it with the IHÄRDIG spice mill
The IKEA 365+ IHÄRDIG spice mill is listed by IKEA UK as a spice mill with a ceramic grinder and glass jar. The listing describes the mechanism as compatible with jars in IKEA’s IHÄRDIG series. It does not describe coffee use, so it should not be treated as a coffee grinder for a daily brew, even though it also uses a ceramic mechanism.

Is the METALLISK the best choice?

Criteria for comparing manual coffee grinders
If you are comparing the METALLISK with other manual grinders, check the same details for each one so the comparison is like for like:
- Grinder type: confirm it is a manual burr or ceramic mechanism designed for coffee beans, not a spice mill.
- Adjustment range: look for a stated coarseness range or number of settings, and whether it suits your brewing method.
- Capacity: compare the bean hopper size against how much coffee you brew at once.
- Dimensions: check height and footprint against your counter space and how you store it.
- Cleaning method: confirm which parts come apart and whether they can be rinsed or only wiped.
- Regional availability: confirm the product is sold in your country, with current pricing from the seller.
Where a manufacturer does not publish one of these figures, record it as not stated rather than assuming a value.
