iFixit FixHub Portable Soldering Station: 100W Battery Power and Repairability

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

iFixit’s FixHub is a portable soldering system, not simply a cordless soldering iron. It combines the 100W-maximum SLD101 Smart Soldering Iron with the battery-powered STN101 Portable Power Station, which adds onboard controls, USB-C power and up to about eight hours of claimed continuous soldering runtime.

Announced on September 12, 2024, with the station scheduled for release on October 15, FixHub remains listed in iFixit’s US store. Prices observed on August 18, 2026 were $79.95 for the iron, $249.95 for the Portable Soldering Station and $299.95 for the Soldering Toolkit. Prices, availability, taxes and shipping restrictions vary by region.

What FixHub includes

There are three distinct ways to buy the system:

  • Smart Soldering Iron: the SLD101 iron, heat-resistant cap, USB-C cable and one Bevel 1.5 tip. It requires an external USB-C Power Delivery source; iFixit recommends 65W to 100W for optimal performance.
  • Portable Soldering Station: the Smart Soldering Iron combined with the STN101 Portable Power Station. This is the cordless configuration, with a battery, display and physical controls.
  • Soldering Toolkit: the station package plus a tool roll containing solder, flux, cutters, wire strippers, tweezers, safety glasses, desoldering braid, a silicone mat, dispensing pen, spudger, soldering splint and tip cleaner.

The iron itself is therefore not cordless. It can operate independently from a suitable USB-C PD charger or power bank, but battery operation requires the Portable Power Station or another mobile power source with appropriate output.

iFixit says the idea grew from the inconvenience of taking an extension cord to a vehicle to repair a car stereo. The company also notes that more than 1,000 of its repair guides require a soldering iron. That explains FixHub’s intended role: a field-repair tool for vehicles, workshops, classrooms and temporary workspaces, rather than only a bench accessory.

Fanttik T1 Max Soldering Iron Kit, Cordless Soldering Iron | 7s Fast Heating(390°F-840℉), Auto Sleep, 4 Pcs Soldering Tips(C210), 360° Swivel Stand, Soldering Iron for Precision Repair
  • Extreme Tinning: Fanttik T1 MAX is equipped with 4pcs tailor-made C210 (C210-I, C210-IS, 2pcs C210-K) rapid heating soldering tips, long service life, and anti-oxidation. Achieve a fast heating in 7 seconds, reduce the waiting time, and improve the efficiency of your repair tasks.
  • Compatible DC/AC Modes: With the built-in 2600mAh battery in wireless mode, the maximum DC Output is 12W for up to 60 minutes at 840°F (450°C). Its small size is not bound by space, and maintenance work can be carried out anywhere. In wired mode, the maximum AC Output is 16W. It can be powered by a charger or mobile power supply with a Type-C port.
  • Intelligent Gravity Sensing: After stopping working for 30 seconds, the soldering iron will enter sleep mode. T1 MAX will automatically restart to heat up to the temperature you set when picking it up again. NOTE: The red light flashes while heating, and the green light stays on when heating is complete.
  • 6 Temperature Levels: The tail knob of the soldering iron has 6 levels for adjusting the temperature. Can be adjusted accurately and efficiently for different work scenes in the range between 390°F to 840°F (200°C to 450°C) so as not to damage heat-resistant components.
  • Compact Structural with Stability: Equipped with an aluminum storage stand, the base tray can be pressed to pop up to store the welding head. The exquisite industrial design allows the soldering iron to be displayed on the table like an aesthetic piece, keeping the workbench clean, beautiful, comfortable, and pleasant.

Power, temperature and battery

The iron has a maximum advertised output of 100W and a factory preset temperature of 350°C (660°F). Temperature is adjustable from 200°C to 420°C (395°F to 790°F). iFixit says it reaches working temperature in seconds; Hackaday reported a heat-up time of under five seconds in its review.

A 100W rating describes maximum electrical power capability, not a promise of constant 100W heat delivery at the tip. Actual power draw changes with the selected temperature, tip shape, joint size, thermal mass and the amount of heat needed for recovery.

The Portable Power Station contains a 55Wh battery, specified as 15,600mAh or 5,200mAh at 10.8V. iFixit claims about eight hours of continuous soldering. That should be treated as an upper-use-case claim rather than a universal runtime guarantee. Repeated high-load joints, two connected irons, charging another device, ambient temperature and battery age can all reduce endurance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The station has two front USB-C Smart Ports with up to 100W combined output. It can power two irons, but the irons share that output. A rear USB-C port accepts up to 45W for charging and computer interfacing. The station measures 95 × 33.3 × 170mm and weighs approximately 696.8g, or 1.5lb.

Controls and software

The iron deliberately avoids a conventional screen and temperature buttons on the handle. Its illuminated ring communicates temperature status, while detailed settings are changed through one of three interfaces:

  • the Portable Power Station’s display and controls;
  • the FixHub Web Console; or
  • the Android app.

The Web Console can show serial information and install firmware updates. iFixit says it requires a USB connection to a computer and a compatible Chromium-based browser such as Chrome or Brave. The product pages also warn that some units may ship with earlier firmware and recommend updating before first use.

This arrangement is a usability trade-off. The handle is clean and uncluttered, but a standalone iron does not offer the immediate onboard adjustment found on products such as Pinecil or other TS100-style irons. If you use the iron without the station, deeper configuration may require a computer and the Web Console.

Safety features—and their limits

FixHub includes several automation and handling features:

  • after approximately 30 seconds without movement, idle mode reduces the tip to a configurable temperature, listed as 200°C by default in iFixit’s repair documentation;
  • after approximately 60 seconds without movement, sleep mode turns the iron off;
  • movement triggers automatic reheating;
  • an accelerometer provides fall protection;
  • a magnetic, heat-resistant cap protects the tip during storage;
  • the non-rolling body reduces the chance of the iron moving across a work surface;
  • the cap can also act as a stand when attached to the Power Station.

These features reduce avoidable mistakes, but they do not make soldering risk-free. Use ventilation or fume extraction, eye protection, a heat-resistant work surface and proper handling for molten solder. Take particular care around lithium-ion batteries: a soldering iron should not be used carelessly near damaged or swollen cells.

Quick-Swap tips

FixHub uses tool-free Quick-Swap Soldering Tips. iFixit lists Bevel 1.5, Cone, Wedge, Point, Bevel 2.6, Knife 2.5 and Knife 1.4 options. The iron ships with the Bevel 1.5 tip.

Helping hands can assist you in fixating components from different directions. Magnifying glass with LED lights helps you with more micro soldering work by enlarging components and providing sufficient light. Use solder wire dispenser and tip storage slots to store your solder wire and soldering tips, making your workbench well-organized.
  • Please note that WEP 927-IV model uses WEP #1400 Soldering Iron Tips, which are available in our store. This soldering iron kit is covered by our exclusive 1-year USA technical support, with 24-hour assistance from our dedicated team. Note: This product is rated for 110-127V USA specifications. Do not connect this iron to a 220V power socket.

The tip connection uses a 3.5mm TRS-style interface. That does not establish compatibility with TS80, TS100, Pinecil or standard cartridge tips. Buyers should plan around iFixit’s own tip range rather than assuming that the broad TS100-compatible ecosystem will fit.

This is one of the most important long-term ownership differences between FixHub and a Pinecil-style iron. FixHub offers a controlled, purpose-built tip system; TS100-style products offer more third-party choice and often cheaper replacement options. Tip availability and cost should be part of the purchase decision, especially for technicians who use several profiles.

Repairability is a genuine differentiator

FixHub’s strongest advantage is not just battery capacity or heat-up speed. iFixit publishes repair guides, teardown documentation, troubleshooting material, schematics, replacement parts and other service information for the system. Listed replacement categories include batteries, boards, buttons, cables, case components, knobs, screens, screws and switches.

The company also maintains a public FixHub GitHub repository with low-level communication, serial-interface, command-line and firmware/build information. Hackaday described the hardware as modular and comparatively easy to open.

There is an important distinction, however. Documentation and replaceable parts make FixHub unusually serviceable for a consumer soldering product; they do not make it fully open hardware. As Hackaday noted, public schematics and repair resources are different from publishing complete manufacturing files such as Gerbers. iFixit also warns that hardware damage caused by inventive tinkering may not be covered by its warranty.

Setup checklist

  1. Confirm whether you bought the iron alone, the station or the complete toolkit.
  2. If using the iron independently, connect it to a USB-C PD source rated from 65W to 100W.
  3. Install the supplied Bevel 1.5 tip.
  4. Connect the USB-C cable and remove the protective cap before heating.
  5. Set or confirm the temperature using the station, Web Console or Android app.
  6. Update the firmware before starting an important project.
  7. Wait for the status ring to indicate that the selected temperature has been reached.
  8. Choose idle and sleep settings appropriate to the job.
  9. After use, follow safe handling procedures before replacing the cap. The cap is heat-resistant, but the tip and surrounding metal remain hazardous.

If the iron does not heat

Work through these checks in order:

  1. Verify that the USB-C source supports sufficient Power Delivery output.
  2. Reseat the cable and, where applicable, engage its locking collar.
  3. Check that the heater switch is enabled.
  4. Confirm that the selected temperature or safety mode is not preventing heating.
  5. Reseat the tip correctly.
  6. Check whether a firmware update is required.
  7. If connected to the station, inspect its error display and error log.

For unresolved problems, use iFixit’s FixHub repair and troubleshooting documentation. Opening a battery-powered device without understanding thermal and lithium-ion hazards can create a greater problem than the original fault.

FixHub compared with the alternatives

PINE64 Pinecil V2

The Pinecil V2 is the clearest lower-cost, open-source-oriented alternative. PINE64 documents USB-C PD, DC barrel input, external-battery support, motion detection, sleep modes and up to 24V/88W operation. It uses TS100-style tips, giving buyers a broad accessory ecosystem.

Pinecil offers more flexible power inputs, stronger developer appeal and generally greater tip choice. FixHub offers higher advertised maximum power, a dedicated 55Wh battery station, iFixit’s repair documentation and a more integrated portable system. PINE64 also warns buyers about counterfeit Pinecils and recommends its official stores or listed authorized sellers; current Pinecil pricing is not included here because it varies and was not verified for this comparison.

Miniware TS101 and other TS100-style irons

These compact irons suit users who want onboard controls and established third-party tip availability. They are less compelling if the priority is an integrated battery station, iFixit’s service documentation or a complete mobile repair setup. Current official pricing and availability should be checked directly before purchase.

Weller or Hakko bench stations

A conventional Weller, Hakko or comparable station remains the better fit for a fixed workbench. It generally makes more sense when you value traditional controls, a dedicated stand and established tip availability, and never need battery operation. It is not a direct portability equivalent to FixHub; the comparison is about priorities, not identical products.

Who should buy FixHub?

Buy the $79.95 Smart Soldering Iron if you already own a suitable 65W-or-higher USB-C PD supply and want iFixit’s safety features, repairability and compact form without the battery station. Do not choose it expecting cordless operation or full controls on the handle.

Buy the $249.95 Portable Soldering Station if cordless work is the central requirement. It is aimed at vehicle repair, field service, classrooms, workshops and makers who regularly leave the bench. The onboard controls, battery capacity and ability to power two irons or another USB-C device justify the premium only when those capabilities will be used.

Buy the $299.95 Soldering Toolkit if you are starting from zero and the included accessories genuinely replace purchases you would otherwise make. Existing makers who already own solder, flux, hand tools, safety equipment and consumables may get better value from the station alone.

Choose something cheaper if you only need an iron for occasional repairs, already have a USB-C PD supply and care more about low purchase cost or TS100-style tip availability than integrated serviceability.

Choose a conventional bench station if your work never leaves a workbench. FixHub’s premium pays for portability, battery integration, software features and repair documentation—not merely for the ability to melt solder.

Verdict

FixHub is best understood as a premium portable repair system. The Smart Soldering Iron is a capable standalone tool, but the $249.95 station is the product that makes iFixit’s concept distinctive: a battery-powered, configurable and unusually well-documented soldering setup for work away from a bench.

Its weaknesses are equally clear: the high price, software dependence, narrower tip ecosystem and runtime that will vary with actual load. For occasional users or fixed-workbench technicians, a Pinecil-style iron or conventional Weller/Hakko station may be the more rational choice. For field repairers and makers who value cordless operation and long-term serviceability, FixHub’s premium is easier to justify.
