The under-sink filter was manageable to install, though working in a cramped cupboard was awkward and the reviewer noticed slightly lower tap pressure. The evidence also calls for a careful distinction: the exact-model NSF listing covers chlorine and taste-and-odor reduction, not lead reduction from water.
What the four-month review found
T3 contributor Joanna Ebsworth tried the Water2 Pod 2.0 in her South East London home, which she describes as having very hard water. After four months, she reported a noticeable improvement in taste and said her household was more willing to drink water. She also noticed a slight drop in cold-tap pressure. Those are observations from one household, not guaranteed results for every home.
Ebsworth’s overall verdict was positive: “In short, I can see myself being a Water2 customer for many years to come.” Her experience supports the case for trying the filter if taste is your main concern; it does not establish how much it reduced any contaminant in her tap water, because she did not report before-and-after measurements.
What Water2 claims—and what the evidence establishes
Water2’s science page presents controlled-laboratory figures for the base Pod 2.0: 95.28% chlorine reduction, 85.4% lead reduction, 84.4% THM reduction and 99.99% microplastic reduction, with the microplastic claim specified as “down to 10 microns.” Water2 says actual results can vary with water quality, flow rate and use. These are manufacturer-reported test claims, not contaminant readings from Ebsworth’s home.

The certification scope needs particular care. The NSF listing for the exact POD2.0[Pb] model places it under NSF/ANSI 42 for chlorine and taste-and-odor reduction. Its lead-related note concerns the weighted-average lead content of plumbing components being no more than 0.25%; it does not list reduction of lead in water. So “NSF approved” should not be read as NSF verification of Water2’s lead-removal percentage.
Water2 also describes separate performance for an optional Fluoride Filter. Do not attribute that add-on’s fluoride, PFAS or pesticide claims to the base Pod 2.0.

Installation and day-to-day trade-offs
The Pod 2.0 connects under the sink to the cold-water supply and sends filtered water through the existing tap. T3 describes a compact cylindrical unit supplied with a pre-fitted capsule, two flexible hoses, a washer, a possible threaded bolt and a reminder buzzer. Ebsworth shut off the water, disconnected the cold-water inlet and connected the hoses to the filter. She used a spanner that was not included and kept a towel handy.
Her installation took about 15 minutes. She found the process simple once she had identified and shut off the supply, but the cupboard was cramped enough to make working on her knees uncomfortable. As she put it, “Although I found the installation process simple, being on my knees for 15 minutes while trying to untighten and tighten bolts in a very cramped space was awkward and uncomfortable.” Your experience will depend on access to the pipework and your comfort with basic plumbing tasks.

After installation or capsule replacement, B&Q’s product listing instructs users to flush the system for three to five minutes. Ebsworth ran the tap for five minutes. The retailer says the system is intended for treated mains water and cold-water use; it should not be treated as a solution for unsafe or untreated supplies.
Price, replacement and what to check
At the time of T3’s review, the recommended price was £129 for the starter kit and £99 for a replacement capsule, recommended every 12 months. B&Q described the capsule as lasting up to one year or 5,000 litres and showed the product out of stock when its listing was accessed in 2026. Prices and availability can change, so check current terms before buying.

In practical terms, compare the annual capsule cost and under-sink fit with the ongoing cartridge cost and counter space of a jug. The under-sink format avoids keeping a filled jug on the worktop, but it requires cupboard access and a connection to the cold-water line. There is no model-specific independent head-to-head test here to establish that Water2 is categorically better than a jug or another under-sink filter.

If the promise you care about is better-tasting water, the reviewer’s four-month account is encouraging but remains subjective and household-specific. If you are buying chiefly for contaminant removal, distinguish Water2’s own laboratory claims from the narrower scope of the exact-model NSF listing, and do not treat that listing as certification of lead reduction. Bear Grylls’ involvement is also part of the product’s commercial context: he has said he bought the product, invested in it and co-led Pod 2.0’s development, so his endorsement is not independent evidence of performance.

For anyone considering it, the decision comes down to taste preference, cupboard access, current capsule cost and which contaminant-specific evidence matters for your water. The available account supports a positive personal verdict, not a universal performance guarantee.
