CDOT’s northbound I-225 improvement project is scheduled to begin in early October 2026 between I-25 and South Yosemite Street. It will add a through lane and include pavement and drainage work. Daytime work is expected to close shoulders while keeping through-lanes open; intermittent ramp and lane closures are planned overnight. Check COtrip before you leave, since schedules and closures can change.
Where is construction taking place?
The work is limited to northbound I-225 between I-25 and South Yosemite Street, from mile point 0.22 to mile point 2.11, in Denver and Arapahoe counties. It is not a project along the full length of I-225. CDOT’s I-225 Bottleneck Mitigation project page has the project details.
What is CDOT changing?
CDOT and contractor Brannan Sand & Gravel plan to add a through lane to address congestion where traffic merges onto northbound I-225 from I-25. CDOT says the final configuration will have four continuous northbound lanes. The project also includes resurfacing and restriping northbound I-225 and drainage improvements. CDOT describes the intended benefits as reduced congestion and travel time, smoother pavement and improved drainage; it has not published a quantified forecast of those benefits.
CDOT lists the project construction cost as $1.9 million. That is the department’s listed project cost, not an independently audited final expenditure.

When is the work scheduled?
CDOT announced the project on October 5, 2026, and said construction was expected to start in early October and continue into December 2026. December is the anticipated end period, not a guaranteed completion date. Work is scheduled to alternate between daytime and nighttime shifts; CDOT says the shifts will not run concurrently.
- Daytime: Generally 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- Nighttime: Starts at 9:30 p.m. Sunday night through Thursday night. CDOT’s project page lists a 6 a.m. end time, while its October 5 announcement gives a general end time of 5:30 a.m.; check the current closure notice rather than relying on one nightly reopening time.

Daytime shoulder closures
During daytime work, northbound I-225 shoulders may close. CDOT says all current through-lanes will remain open during this work.

Overnight ramp and lane closures
Intermittent overnight closures are expected for the northbound I-25 and southbound I-25 off-ramps to northbound I-225. The two ramps are not scheduled to close at the same time. Additional single- or double-lane closures on northbound I-225 may also occur at night.

CDOT does not anticipate significant delays, but recommends allowing up to 10 extra minutes. That is planning advice from CDOT, not a measured delay prediction for every trip. Check CDOT’s October 5 announcement and live conditions close to departure.
