For sensitive skin or eczema, look for laundry detergent packs specifically labeled fragrance-free and dye-free—not merely “unscented.” Tide PODS Free & Gentle and Seventh Generation Free & Clear Laundry Detergent Packs are two options with National Eczema Association listings. Neither listing establishes that a product will suit every person, and the available sources do not show that either cleans better than the other.
Why fragrance-free and dye-free matter
The American Academy of Dermatology recommends fragrance-free and dye-free laundry detergent for people managing atopic dermatitis, noting that fragrance can trigger flares. It advises choosing “fragrance-free” rather than “unscented”: an unscented product may still contain fragrance. See the AAD’s eczema guidance and its guidance for children with eczema.
These labels are useful screening criteria, not a guarantee of tolerance. A person may react to an ingredient other than fragrance or dye, so the full current ingredient list matters, especially when you already know which substances irritate your skin.

How to choose for your own sensitivities
- Check the exact wording. Prefer a clear fragrance-free and dye-free claim; “unscented” alone does not establish that a product is fragrance-free.
- Read the full ingredient list. Compare it with substances you have previously reacted to. For example, Tide’s directory listing includes benzisothiazolinone and enzymes; that does not mean everyone will react, but it may matter if you have a known sensitivity.
- Understand what a seal means. The National Eczema Association says accepted products cannot include fragrance, UV absorbers, formaldehyde releasers, or ingredients on its Ecz-clusion List. A seal is a screening aid, not a promise that no individual will react. See the Seal of Acceptance criteria.
- Use the pack as directed. Follow the product’s package instructions for your washer and load rather than assuming all packs have identical directions.
- Ask for clinical advice when needed. The Association advises people with eczema or sensitive skin to identify ingredients that could irritate them or trigger allergies and to direct product-suitability questions to a healthcare provider. For a child with eczema, the AAD also recommends asking the child’s dermatologist for product recommendations.
What the evidence can—and cannot—tell you
The cited sources support considering these two fragrance- and dye-free pack options, but they do not provide independent head-to-head cleaning tests or establish a universal best choice. A product’s sensitive-skin positioning, ingredient claims, or organization recognition cannot determine how it will work for your skin. Choose based on the current label, relevant recognition, pack directions, and your own known sensitivities.
