During the Fondation Beyeler’s current preview phase, the museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, open 10 a.m.–8 p.m. on Wednesdays, and open 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. The museum recommends booking online in advance, but admission prices for this phase should be checked in the live ticket shop rather than copied from older pages.

The museum is at Baselstrasse 101, 4125 Riehen, Switzerland, just outside Basel. Public transport is the recommended way to arrive: Tram 6 serves the Fondation Beyeler stop, while visitors from Basel SBB can change to Tram 6 at Badischer Bahnhof. Drivers can use the nearby Zentrum garage or investigate the museum’s Park + Ride offer from Badischer Bahnhof.

Fondation Beyeler opening hours during the 2026 preview phase

The schedule currently published for visits from 26 September 2026 follows a Wednesday-to-Sunday pattern:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Day Published hours Planning note
Monday Closed Do not plan a regular museum visit.
Tuesday Closed Do not plan a regular museum visit.
Wednesday 10 a.m.–8 p.m. The late-opening day; useful if you cannot visit during ordinary daytime hours.
Thursday 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Regular daytime opening.
Friday 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Regular daytime opening.
Saturday 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Regular daytime opening.
Sunday 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Regular daytime opening.

The page also listed Wednesday, 7 October 2026, as closing at 4:30 p.m. That one-off date has passed, but it demonstrates why you should check the live schedule for your exact date rather than relying on the weekly pattern alone. Exhibition changeovers, events and other exceptional dates can make a displayed weekly timetable inapplicable.

Tickets: what to book and where to check the price

The museum recommends booking online in advance. Advance booking is intended to secure your preferred visit date and reduce waiting at the museum. The current visit page says that visits from 26 September onward could already be booked online.

Admission prices for the current preview phase were not visible in the published page excerpt used for this guide. Do not treat amounts from an older Fondation Beyeler visit page as current. Open the museum’s live ticket shop immediately before purchase and check the price, ticket categories, date availability and any conditions shown there.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Advance-booking procedure

  1. Choose a date that is actually open. Start with the Wednesday-to-Sunday schedule, then check the museum’s live calendar for exceptional closures or shorter hours.
  2. Select the visit time or entry option displayed by the ticket shop. The current preview-phase page confirms online booking, but the retrieved information does not establish that historic timed-entry rules still apply. Follow the options presented for your selected date rather than assuming an older system is still in force.
  3. Review the current admission amount and ticket category. The live shop is the authoritative place for the preview-phase price. Check whether the category you need is adult, reduced, child, family, group or another option shown at checkout.
  4. Complete payment and save the confirmation. Keep the booking email or digital ticket accessible on the day. The museum’s current page recommends booking online, but the available excerpt does not specify whether printed tickets, mobile tickets or identification checks are required.
  5. Recheck the booking before travelling. Confirm the date, opening hours and any instructions in the confirmation. If the museum changes a session or publishes a special closing time, the booking information for your date takes priority over a generic weekly timetable.

Why older ticket prices are unsafe to reuse

The museum is operating in a named preview phase beginning 26 September 2026, and the current page excerpt does not show a verified admission price. A figure copied from an archived page could belong to a different exhibition, season or ticket structure. For an accurate budget, use the amount displayed by the live ticket shop on the date you book and retain the confirmation that records what you purchased.

Train-and-museum packages

The museum’s visitor information mentions an SBB RailAway train-and-museum admission offer. The available information does not establish that the offer is active now, what it costs, which trains or regions qualify, or how it is redeemed. If you are arriving by train, look for the current offer in the museum’s or railway operator’s live sales channels and verify its terms before treating it as an alternative to a normal admission ticket.

Where the museum is located

The address is Baselstrasse 101, 4125 Riehen, Switzerland. Riehen is adjacent to Basel, so a journey described as “from Basel” crosses a municipal boundary even though the museum is close to the city’s transport network.

Use the full street address when checking a map, planning a taxi or entering a destination in a navigation app. For public transport, the stop name you need is Fondation Beyeler. For a car journey, the museum identifies the nearby Zentrum garage as the principal parking option listed in its visitor information.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Getting to Fondation Beyeler by public transport

Public transport is the museum’s recommended approach. The official route information identifies Tram 6 as the direct tram serving the Fondation Beyeler stop and gives two practical ways to connect from Basel.

From Basel Badischer Bahnhof: Tram 6

  1. Arrive at Basel Badischer Bahnhof.
  2. Find Tram 6 and board it in the direction that serves the Fondation Beyeler stop. Check the platform display and the live transport timetable for your travel date.
  3. Leave the tram at the Fondation Beyeler stop and follow the museum signs or your map to the entrance.

This is the simplest route in the museum’s information because it avoids a second connection after you reach Badischer Bahnhof. The published material does not give a guaranteed journey duration, so allow enough time for the connection, waiting and any service disruption.

From Basel SBB: change at Badischer Bahnhof

  1. At Basel SBB, take Tram 2 toward Eglisee.
  2. Ride Tram 2 to Badischer Bahnhof.
  3. Change to Tram 6 for the Fondation Beyeler stop.
  4. Exit at the museum stop and continue to the entrance.

Check the destination display before boarding Tram 2: the route specified by the museum is toward Eglisee. At Badischer Bahnhof, allow time to find the Tram 6 platform; the exact interchange arrangement and departure times can vary with construction or service changes.

Alternative: S-Bahn 6 to Riehen

An alternative route is S-Bahn 6 to Riehen, followed by an approximately six-minute walk to the museum. This can suit visitors who prefer a rail journey or whose starting point makes the S-Bahn easier than a tram transfer.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Board S-Bahn 6 to Riehen.
  2. Exit at Riehen station.
  3. Walk for about six minutes to Fondation Beyeler, using a current map for the walking route and entrance approach.

The six-minute figure is the museum’s stated approximate walk and can change with your exit, pace, luggage or temporary pedestrian restrictions. Verify the departure board and any replacement-bus notice on the day.

Transit route comparison

Starting point or method Connections described by the museum Walking or parking detail What to verify live
Basel Badischer Bahnhof Tram 6 directly to the Fondation Beyeler stop No separate walking duration stated Direction, departures, disruptions and stop access
Basel SBB Tram 2 toward Eglisee, change at Badischer Bahnhof to Tram 6 No separate walking duration stated Tram 2 and Tram 6 departure times and interchange conditions
Rail alternative S-Bahn 6 to Riehen Approximately six minutes on foot from Riehen Train operation, station exit and pedestrian route
Car plus Park + Ride Drive to Badischer Bahnhof, park, then take return transit to the museum Up to five hours of parking in the stated offer Price, spaces, validity and transit terms

Driving and parking

Zentrum garage

The museum lists the Zentrum garage as close to Fondation Beyeler. If you drive, check the garage’s current opening status, capacity, payment method, height limits and walking route before setting out. Those operational details are not established in the museum information summarized here, and a “nearby” garage can still be inconvenient if it is full during a busy exhibition period.

Park + Ride from Badischer Bahnhof

The museum describes a Park + Ride offer based at Badischer Bahnhof. The stated package covers up to five hours of parking, plus return public transport between Badischer Bahnhof and the museum for two people in second class, for a flat rate of CHF 15.

Treat CHF 15 as the museum’s stated offer detail, not as a permanent parking tariff. Confirm the current price, availability, participating car park, purchase method, time limit and transit validity before relying on it. The offer may be unsuitable if your visit will exceed five hours, if you need transport for more than two people, or if the package is not available on your date.

Which arrival option fits your visit?

Priority Most suitable starting point Reason Trade-off
Fewest decisions after arriving in Basel Badischer Bahnhof plus Tram 6 The museum lists Tram 6 to the Fondation Beyeler stop from this station. You still need to verify the correct direction and live departures.
Starting at Basel SBB Tram 2 to Badischer Bahnhof, then Tram 6 Uses the route specifically provided for Basel SBB visitors. Requires a change at Badischer Bahnhof.
Preference for rail and a short walk S-Bahn 6 to Riehen Followed by the museum’s stated approximately six-minute walk. Walking conditions and the station exit matter, especially with luggage.
Need to bring a car Zentrum garage The museum identifies it as close to the museum. Availability, charges and garage rules must be checked separately.
Want to avoid driving into the museum area Badischer Bahnhof Park + Ride The stated offer combines up to five hours’ parking with return transit for two people. CHF 15, limits and availability are subject to confirmation.

There is no single universally fastest option because the museum’s published information does not provide a guaranteed door-to-door duration for each route. Choose according to your starting station, tolerance for transfers, walking needs, parking requirements and the live service status on your date.

A practical visit plan by day

If you choose Wednesday

Wednesday is the only day in the current weekly pattern with hours extending to 8 p.m. Book the date online, check that the late schedule is still displayed, and plan your return transport before entering the galleries. Tram and S-Bahn departures can become less frequent later in the evening, so use the live timetable for the time you expect to leave rather than assuming daytime frequency continues.

If you choose Thursday through Sunday

These days are listed as 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Select a ticket date that leaves enough time for your journey from Basel, any transfer at Badischer Bahnhof or the walk from Riehen, and your return trip. If you are driving, include time to find a space at the Zentrum garage or complete the Park + Ride transfer before the 6 p.m. closing time.

If your only available day is Monday or Tuesday

The current preview-phase schedule lists both days as closed. Do not travel expecting ordinary gallery access. Check the museum’s live calendar in case a future schedule replaces the preview pattern, but do not infer an opening from a third-party listing or an older page.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What to verify before you leave

  • Date and hours: Confirm the exact date in the museum’s current visit calendar, including any special closing time.
  • Ticket status: Make sure the online booking is completed and that the confirmation shows the correct date and category.
  • Price: Use the live ticket shop for the current preview-phase amount; do not rely on an older CHF figure.
  • Transit: Check Tram 2, Tram 6 and S-Bahn 6 service, platform information, engineering works and replacement buses.
  • Route: If using S-Bahn 6, confirm the walking route from Riehen station. If using Tram 6, confirm the Fondation Beyeler stop and direction.
  • Parking: Check Zentrum garage conditions or the current Park + Ride terms, including capacity and the five-hour limit stated for the offer.
  • Return journey: Note the final practical departure for your route, especially for a Wednesday evening visit.

Common planning mistakes and how to avoid them

Arriving on a closed day

The Monday-and-Tuesday closure is easy to miss if you scan only for a daily opening time. Put the museum’s weekly pattern into your itinerary before booking accommodation or transport.

Budgeting from an obsolete price

Because the current preview-phase price was not visible in the published excerpt, an old admission amount is not a reliable budget. Check the live shop and keep the checkout total with your booking records.

Assuming every Wednesday has identical hours

The published schedule included a Wednesday with an earlier 4:30 p.m. closing. That date is past, but it confirms that exceptional hours can override the normal late-opening pattern. Check your specific Wednesday.

Taking the wrong tram from Basel SBB

The museum’s route starts with Tram 2 toward Eglisee, followed by a change to Tram 6 at Badischer Bahnhof. Confirm both the route number and displayed destination before boarding.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Exceeding the Park + Ride allowance

The stated package allows up to five hours of parking. Record your arrival time and verify what happens if your visit runs longer; do not assume the CHF 15 terms extend automatically.
