Many Fujitsu wall-mounted air conditioners can be started temporarily using a small MANUAL/AUTO, AUTO or OPERATION button on the indoor unit. Open the front panel gently, locate the button and follow the press timing in the manual for your exact model. On one Fujitsu model, holding MANUAL AUTO for more than 3 seconds but less than 10 starts automatic operation; pressing it again stops the unit. The button’s location and behavior vary by model.
Start the unit using its manual button
- Find the complete indoor-unit model number. Use it to locate the correct operating manual; Fujitsu button locations and instructions are not universal.
- Open the indoor unit’s front panel carefully. Lift it gently and do not force the hinges.
- Look for a labeled push button. It may say MANUAL/AUTO, AUTO or OPERATION, and is often on the right side. Do not remove electrical covers or touch wiring, terminals or circuit boards.
- Follow the model manual’s instructions. In one Fujitsu manual example, pressing MANUAL AUTO for more than 3 seconds and less than 10 seconds starts AUTO operation. Pressing the button again stops it. See Fujitsu’s operating manual for that model’s procedure.
What the button can—and cannot—do
Manual operation is a temporary fallback, not a substitute for the remote. The documented example runs in AUTO with automatic fan speed and a standard thermostat setting; behavior can differ by model. This basic button generally does not let you choose heating or cooling, set a preferred temperature or fan speed, or use remote-only timers and advanced settings.
Do not hold the button for more than 10 seconds. Fujitsu manuals warn that a longer press can start forced cooling, a mode intended for service or installation rather than normal operation.
Ways to regain more control

Using direct smartphone control
AIRSTAGE Mobile Direct Control can operate without an access point after the air conditioner has been registered. Fujitsu says this direct connection has restricted functions and works only within direct communication range. If you cannot find the button or the unit will not start
- Check the manual for the complete indoor-unit model number rather than relying on instructions for a different Fujitsu model.
- Do not force the panel or open electrical compartments. If there is no accessible manual button, or the documented procedure does not work, use a compatible replacement remote or contact Fujitsu support.
- For full operation, confirm that the replacement remote matches your unit, or verify that your air conditioner supports the app and required setup.
The button procedure applies to many wall-mounted split systems, not necessarily every Fujitsu ducted, multi-split or other system. Fujitsu’s support pages can help identify model-specific guidance.
