A Peach Pass lets an eligible vehicle use Georgia Express Lanes without stopping at a tollbooth. The transponder is free, but you must open a prepaid account, make the required $20 opening payment, register each vehicle, install the device correctly, and keep enough balance for tolls. Before entering, read the price on the overhead sign; that rate is locked for your trip. Only I-85 and the I-85 Extension currently offer free verified travel for carpools with at least three occupants.
What a Peach Pass does
Georgia Express Lanes are optional, electronically tolled lanes built alongside congested metro-Atlanta interstates. They are not general-purpose lanes: you choose to pay for a potentially more reliable trip, and you must follow the lane’s entry, exit and vehicle restrictions.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
Peach Pass identifies your vehicle as it passes the electronic toll point. There are no toll booths to stop at. An active Peach Pass account must be associated with the vehicle, although interoperable accounts from E-ZPass, SunPass, E-Pass or Quick Pass can also be accepted where the facility permits them.
Recommended Free Tools
The lanes are not free simply because they are open. A toll is normally charged whenever you use them. The important exception is a verified three-person-or-more carpool on the I-85 facilities, described below.

Current Georgia Express Lane facilities
| Facility | Published length | Pricing |
|---|---|---|
| I-75 South Metro Express Lanes | 12 miles | Variable or dynamic tolling |
| Northwest Corridor Express Lanes | 29.7 miles | Variable or dynamic tolling |
| I-85 Express Lanes | 16 miles | Variable or dynamic tolling |
| I-85 Extension | 10 miles | Variable or dynamic tolling |
Lengths are the figures published on the current Peach Pass/SRTA facility pages. A facility’s operating direction, access points and operating schedule can affect whether it is useful for your particular trip, so read the signs at the entrance rather than assuming every lane operates the same way every day.
How much Peach Pass costs
| Item | What the current information establishes |
|---|---|
| Transponder | The device itself is free when supplied through the Peach Pass account program. |
| Opening payment | $20 on the current installation page; this is paid when the account is established. |
| Account type | Prepaid: the account balance is used for tolls and applicable charges and must be replenished. |
| Minimum toll | $0.10 per mile, according to the current Peach Pass/SRTA FAQ. |
| Maximum toll | No single maximum rate is published in the current official information; prices above the minimum vary with traffic. |
The $20 opening payment is not a per-trip toll. You also need a valid card or another accepted replenishment method so the prepaid balance does not run out. The toll you actually pay depends on the facility, direction, entry and exit points, and traffic conditions when you enter.
How dynamic pricing works
At each access point, the overhead sign shows the price to the next exit and to farther destinations. Choose the destination that matches where you expect to leave the Express Lane and read the displayed amount before crossing the entry point. Once you enter, the rate is locked for that trip even if traffic conditions change later.
What to have ready before opening an account
Gather the information below before starting the application. Correct vehicle data matters because the account and transponder must be associated with the vehicle using the lane.
- Your name and physical address.
- A phone number and email address.
- Vehicle year, color, make and model.
- License-plate information for each vehicle.
- A valid payment card for the $20 opening payment and automatic replenishment.
You can create a personal account in the Peach Pass GO! app, at mypeachpass.com, by telephone, or at a listed Peach Pass or Department of Driver Services location. Use an official account channel so the device and vehicle registration are handled together.
One vehicle, one transponder
Register every vehicle separately, even when several vehicles belong to one household. Each registered vehicle needs its own transponder. Do not move one device between cars and assume the account will identify the correct vehicle; the registration and installation instructions are vehicle-specific.

Set up the account and activate the pass
- Choose an official enrollment channel. Open the Peach Pass GO! app, visit mypeachpass.com, call Peach Pass, or go to a listed Peach Pass/Department of Driver Services location.
- Enter the account-holder information. Provide your name, address, telephone number and email address exactly as requested.
- Add the payment method. Make the $20 opening payment shown on the current installation instructions and save a valid card for replenishment.
- Register the vehicle. Enter the year, color, make, model and plate information. Repeat the vehicle-registration process for every additional car and obtain a separate transponder for each one.
- Confirm the account is active. Check the account or confirmation instructions before driving into an Express Lane. An account that has been started but is not active, or a vehicle that has not been added correctly, should not be treated as authorized access.
- Set a replenishment method. Because the account is prepaid, keep an accepted card current and monitor the balance. A depleted balance can prevent the account from covering a toll or a required carpool verification hold.
Install the Peach Pass transponder correctly
Install the device before your first Express Lane trip. The official installation measurements are precise because the electronic reader must be able to detect the transponder through the windshield.
Standard windshield placement
- Park the vehicle and clean the inside of the windshield where the device will be attached.
- Mount the transponder inside the vehicle near the center of the windshield.
- Position it three-quarters of an inch from the center of the rear-view mirror.
- Keep the top edge two inches below the top of the windshield.
- Keep other toll tags or electronic tags at least two inches away.
- Apply it only when the glass and air temperature are above 50°F (10°C), so the adhesive can bond properly.
Do not place the device wherever it blocks the driver’s view, interferes with the mirror or sits beside another tag. A poorly positioned or loose transponder can result in a missed read or an account mismatch.
Special windshields
Some metalized or infrared-treated windshields can block radio communication. If your vehicle has this type of glass, the standard windshield position may not work. The Peach Pass program may require a headlamp-sticker transponder instead; follow the device-specific instructions supplied with that transponder rather than attaching a standard unit in an arbitrary location.
Use an Express Lane on a normal toll trip
Use this sequence each time you plan to enter:
- Check the vehicle. Confirm that the vehicle is the one registered to the active account and that the transponder is mounted in its assigned location.
- Check the balance. Make sure the prepaid account has enough available funds and that the replenishment card is valid.
- Read the entrance sign. Identify the destination price shown for the next exit and for farther destinations. Compare that charge with the time reliability you need.
- Check vehicle eligibility. Vehicles with more than two axles or six wheels, trailers and tractor-trailers are generally prohibited from these lanes.
- Enter only at a marked opening. Follow the broken-line access area or other permitted entry marking. Do not cross a solid double white line.
- Stay in the lane until a permitted exit. Use only the marked access point for your exit. Crossing the solid double white line striping is a violation under the customer agreement.
- Review the trip afterward. Check the account activity to make sure the expected toll was recorded and that the correct vehicle was charged.
Electronic collection means you do not slow for a booth or hand over cash. The absence of a booth does not remove the need for an active account, a properly installed transponder or compliance with the markings.
What the entrance price means
The posted amount is a destination-specific price, not a universal daily fee. Signs can show separate prices to the next exit and to farther exits. If you pass the entry point after the price is displayed, that rate remains locked for your trip. If you decide the price is too high, remain in the general-purpose lanes; do not enter and then cross the double white line to leave early.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsHow the I-85 carpool benefit works
Only the I-85 Express Lanes and the I-85 Extension currently provide Peach Pass Verify free-toll benefits. The qualifying vehicle must carry at least three people, including the driver. I-75 South Metro and the Northwest Corridor facilities do not have this currently documented free-trip benefit.

Requirements for a verified free trip
- An active Peach Pass Toll Personal or Toll Corporate account.
- A Peach Pass transponder associated with the vehicle.
- The Peach Pass Verify app.
- At least three occupants in the vehicle.
- Verification completed before entering the I-85 facility.
Verification steps
- Open Peach Pass Verify before entering the I-85 Express Lane or I-85 Extension.
- Use the app to verify that the vehicle has three or more occupants.
- Keep the app running while traveling through the facility.
- After arriving, complete the required re-verification in the app.
- Check the account activity later to confirm that the trip received the expected treatment.
The current I-85 facility information states a minimum account balance of $5 for this program. An older official setup guide referenced $10. Because the requirement has changed between official materials, check the live Peach Pass Verify app or current account instructions immediately before relying on a free trip; do not assume that an older printed amount still applies.
Verification is facility-specific. A three-person carpool on I-75 South Metro or the Northwest Corridor should not be assumed to qualify simply because it would qualify on I-85.
Decide whether an Express Lane is worth using
The toll buys an option, not a guaranteed arrival time. Make the decision at the entrance using five factors:
Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minute- Posted price: compare the displayed charge with the value of avoiding the slower general-purpose lanes.
- Expected reliability: a toll lane may be attractive when arriving on time matters more than minimizing cost, but traffic conditions and incidents can still affect travel.
- Direction and schedule: confirm that the lane operates in your direction at the time you need it. Current information identifies the facilities and lengths but does not provide one universal schedule for every segment.
- Vehicle type: exclude vehicles with more than two axles or six wheels, trailers and tractor-trailers from your plan.
- Carpool status: if you have three or more occupants, determine whether you are on I-85 or the I-85 Extension and can complete Peach Pass Verify correctly.
For a construction-site arrival, medical appointment or other time-sensitive trip, check the sign price and lane direction shortly before entry instead of budgeting from a previous day’s toll. Dynamic pricing means yesterday’s amount is not a promise for today’s trip.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What happens if you enter without a Peach Pass
Do not enter an Express Lane unless the vehicle has an active Peach Pass or an accepted interoperable account associated with it. The official customer agreement states: “Crossing the solid double white line striping will result in a violation.” Entering through an unauthorized access point or using a vehicle that does not meet the lane rules can likewise create a violation or customer-service issue.
The available official information does not publish one universal penalty amount for every unauthorized entry. If you accidentally enter, do not cross the double white line to escape. Continue to the next legal exit, then contact Peach Pass promptly through an official service channel with the date, time, facility, vehicle and plate details. Keep any notice or account correspondence and follow the instructions on it; the amount and resolution can depend on the specific event.

Troubleshooting before and after a trip
The transponder is not reading
- Confirm the device is inside the windshield, near the mirror center, three-quarters of an inch from the center and two inches below the windshield top.
- Move other toll tags at least two inches away.
- Check whether the windshield is metalized or infrared-treated; a headlamp-sticker transponder may be required.
- Make sure the adhesive was applied above 50°F (10°C) and that the unit has not loosened.
The account shows the wrong vehicle
Stop using the lane until the vehicle and plate information are corrected through the official account channel. Each vehicle needs its own transponder and registration; swapping a device between cars can produce an identification mismatch.
The balance is too low
Use the account’s replenishment method before the next trip and verify that the payment card has not expired. A prepaid account needs available funds for ordinary tolls, and the I-85 carpool-verification program may also require the minimum balance shown in its current app instructions.
The app verification stopped
For an I-85 free-trip attempt, verification is required before entry, the app must remain running during travel, and re-verification is required after arrival. If one of those steps fails, do not assume the trip will be free; review the account activity and contact Peach Pass if the result is unclear.
You are already in the wrong lane
Do not cross a solid double white line. Remain in the lane until a legal exit or access point, then resolve the account or route issue through official customer service.
A practical pre-trip checklist
- Active Peach Pass or interoperable account.
- Correct vehicle and plate registered.
- Transponder installed in the approved position.
- Balance and replenishment card checked.
- Vehicle has no trailer and meets the axle and wheel restriction.
- Entrance sign read, including the price to your intended exit.
- Legal entry and exit points identified.
- For I-85 carpools: three or more occupants, active qualifying account, Verify completed before entry, app running throughout and re-verification completed after arrival.
Key takeaways for Georgia drivers
Set up the prepaid account before your first trip, register every vehicle separately and install the free transponder to the official measurements. Treat the entrance sign as the final price quote because rates change with traffic and lock when you enter. Use only marked access points, never cross the solid double white line, and keep prohibited heavy or towing combinations out of the lanes. If you are carpooling, the free verified-trip option is currently limited to I-85 facilities and requires the app process as well as three occupants.
