How to Set the Time on a Honeywell Smart Thermostat

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The correct steps depend on the thermostat model. Many connected Honeywell Home and Resideo thermostats set the time and date automatically after connecting to Wi-Fi and registering in the appropriate app. If you need to set it manually, the menu path differs between T6, T10, T5, S200, and older touchscreen models.

First, identify your thermostat model

Look for the model number on the thermostat’s face or bezel, behind the removable thermostat, on the installation paperwork, or in the thermostat app’s device details. Common model numbers include T5/T5+, T6 Pro Smart, T9, T10/T10+, RTH9585WF, S200, and older RTH8500WF or TH8320WF-style touchscreen models.

Honeywell-branded thermostats may use Honeywell Home, Resideo, First Alert by Resideo, or Total Connect Comfort depending on the product generation. There is no single clock-setting procedure for every Honeywell thermostat.

Check automatic time synchronization first

If the thermostat is connected to Wi-Fi and registered with its supported app, it may receive the time, date, time zone, and daylight-saving information automatically. This is documented for several T6/T6R, T9/T10, S200, and newer Resideo-connected models.

  • Auto Home and Away Mode. Enjoy ideal temperatures at home, then save when away.
  • ENERGY STAR certified. Help save energy, track your heating and cooling with monthly energy reports and get personalized tips on reducing energy use.

Manual controls may be unavailable while Wi-Fi synchronization is active. Resideo’s Elite Pro documentation, for example, states that manual time adjustment is not available while Wi-Fi is enabled. Do not disconnect Wi-Fi simply to force a manual change unless the instructions for your exact model support that procedure.

If the clock became incorrect after replacing a router, losing internet service, or changing account details, confirm that the thermostat is online and registered. Allow time for synchronization, then check the location, time zone, date, and daylight-saving settings in the thermostat or app.

Set the time on a T6 Pro or T6 Pro II

  1. Wake the thermostat.
  2. Press Menu.
  3. Use the arrow controls to select TIME, then press Select.
  4. Choose a 12-hour or 24-hour clock.
  5. Set the hour and minutes.
  6. Press Select to finish.
  7. Return to Menu, choose DATE, and set the year, month, and day.
  8. Return to the home screen and confirm the displayed time.

See the T6 Pro II time and date instructions. Menu labels can vary by region and hardware version. A T6/T6R connected to the internet may set its time and date automatically instead; see the T6/T6R user guide.

Set the time on a T10 or T10+

  1. Touch the center of the display to wake it.
  2. Touch Menu.
  3. Scroll to Preferences.
  4. Select Date and Time.
  5. Select Date if the date is incorrect.
  6. Adjust the month, day, and year using the on-screen controls, then tap Done.
  7. Return to Date and Time and select Time.
  8. Adjust the hour, minutes, and AM/PM, then tap Done.
  9. Set the clock format and daylight-saving behavior if those options are displayed.

Use the official T10 and T10+ date and time guidance. T10/T10+ models can also synchronize after Wi-Fi and account registration.

Set the time on a T5 or T5+

The T5+ documentation places time and date configuration in the initial manual setup sequence rather than using the same menu path as a T6 or T10.

  1. Continue through the initial setup screens.
  2. When SETUP WIFI appears, select No if you are not connecting the thermostat immediately.
  3. Select the daylight-saving option appropriate for the installation location.
  4. Set the date.
  5. Choose the 12-hour or 24-hour format.
  6. Set the time and finish setup.

Do not assume this is the universal post-setup menu path for every T5 variant. Check the exact model’s T5+ user guide before resetting or reconfiguring the thermostat.

Set the time on an S200 or FocusPRO smart model

  1. Press Menu.
  2. Scroll to TIME and press Select.
  3. Choose the 12-hour or 24-hour format.
  4. Adjust the hour and press Next.
  5. Adjust the minutes and choose Save & Exit.
  6. Return to the menu, select DATE, and set the year, month, and day.

After registration with a First Alert by Resideo account, an S200 may update its time and date automatically. See the S200 time and date instructions.

Set the time on an RTH9585WF or older touchscreen model

On representative RTH8500-style models, the path is:

  1. Touch Menu.
  2. Use the arrows to locate CLOCK.
  3. Select SET TIME.
  4. Adjust the time and select Done.
  5. Set the clock format and daylight-saving option from the same clock submenu if available.

Older registered Wi-Fi models may set the clock and daylight-saving behavior automatically through Total Connect Comfort. For model-specific details, consult the RTH8500 series documentation or the TH8320WF documentation. The RTH9585WF support page is also useful for identifying that product family.

If the clock is still wrong

Symptom Likely cause What to do
No manual time option Wi-Fi synchronization is active, or the wrong model instructions are being used Confirm the model, check Wi-Fi and app registration, and allow synchronization to complete.
The clock is exactly one hour off Incorrect daylight-saving or time-zone information Check the date, thermostat location, time zone, and DST setting. Clock format does not affect the actual time.
The schedule runs at the wrong hour Incorrect clock, incorrect schedule, or an active mode such as Hold or Away Verify both the home-screen clock and the programmed schedule.
The system starts before the scheduled time Smart Response or adaptive recovery Check whether recovery mode is active. Some thermostats start early to reach the scheduled temperature on time.
The clock resets after an outage or battery change Model-specific power, battery, or backup-memory behavior Recheck the time and date after a long outage, battery replacement, reset, or Wi-Fi change.
The app and thermostat disagree Synchronization delay, offline status, or account connection problem Confirm the thermostat is online, reopen the correct app, and allow the devices time to synchronize.

Daylight-saving time and clock format are different

The 12-hour/24-hour setting only changes how the time is displayed. It will not fix a clock that is one hour ahead or behind.

Daylight-saving behavior may be automatic or may appear as Daylight Saving Time, DST, or an option within Date and Time preferences. The correct setting depends on the installation location. Do not enable or disable it without checking your region and model instructions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Verify the schedule after changing the clock

  1. Confirm the correct time and date on the home screen.
  2. Open the schedule and check the next programmed period.
  3. Check whether the thermostat is in Hold, Away, geofencing, or another automatic comfort mode.
  4. Check for Smart Response or adaptive recovery if heating or cooling starts earlier than expected.
  5. If Wi-Fi was recently restored, allow the thermostat and app to synchronize before judging the schedule.

Correcting the clock fixes schedule timing only when the schedule itself and the active operating mode are correct.

When to use the model manual or contact support

Use the exact model manual or contact Resideo support if the model number is unavailable, the time menu is locked by installer settings, the clock repeatedly drifts, the date disappears after power interruptions, or Wi-Fi registration will not complete. Resideo maintains model-specific app and thermostat support.

If the thermostat is operating normally, replacing it is not necessary just to correct the time. If it repeatedly loses the clock, is obsolete, or lacks needed app support, identify the exact model and check compatibility before choosing a replacement or professional installation.
