1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo limit road-construction dust indoors, close windows and exterior doors when dust is present, reduce obvious leaks around them where practical, and use a correctly sized air cleaner as a supplement. For noise, closing windows may help with direct sound, but the result depends on how sound reaches your home; ask the project office about schedules and local rules if disruption persists.
How to keep road construction dust out of your house
Road dust is one source of outdoor particulate matter. It can enter through open windows and doors and through small cracks and crevices. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency explains that outdoor air brings particles indoors when it enters through windows and doors: EPA: Sources of Indoor Particulate Matter (PM).

- Close windows and exterior doors when dust is high. This reduces one direct route for outdoor particles to enter. You will still need to use the home safely and maintain ventilation when outdoor air is cleaner.
- Reduce obvious leakage where appropriate. Weatherstripping or other suitable weatherization around windows and doors can reduce outdoor air entering through those gaps. It will not create a guaranteed airtight seal or eliminate all dust.
- Clean settled dust carefully. Remove dust from indoor surfaces rather than stirring it back into the air; follow the care instructions for your flooring and furnishings. This is a housekeeping step, not a substitute for limiting entry.
Choose filtration for the space you need to protect
Filtration can help reduce particles indoors, but it does not stop dust at the construction site and does not replace source control or ventilation with clean outdoor air. EPA states: “Filtration does not replace the need to control pollutants and ventilate.” Its Guide to Air Cleaners in the Home explains both portable air cleaners and HVAC filters.

Portable air cleaner
A portable air cleaner serves a room or defined area. Compare its clean air delivery rate (CADR) with the room’s floor area and ceiling height; higher CADR is intended for a larger area. EPA’s sizing estimates below assume an 8-foot ceiling and are not guarantees of performance:

Provides a roll of painter's tape and a box of pushpins to make the screen more stable install it just in a few minutes.
- 【High Traffic Areas】Our plastic dust barrier size of 4'W x 7.5'H, Seals doorways up to 3'W x 7'H and are wide enough for most standard door frames. It can be used in any doorway of home, workshop, office, basement, closet, etc. It is a necessary dustproof tool for home renovations, construction site. IMPORTANT: PLEASE MEASURE the DOOR SIZE FIRST!
| Room area | Estimated minimum CADR |
|---|---|
| 100 sq ft | 65 cfm |
| 200 sq ft | 130 cfm |
| 300 sq ft | 195 cfm |
| 400 sq ft | 260 cfm |
| 500 sq ft | 325 cfm |
| 600 sq ft | 390 cfm |
These values come from EPA’s guide; the publication year is not stated on the reviewed page. Run the cleaner at a speed and for a duration that suit the room and your household. Higher fan speeds and longer operation generally filter more air, but check the product label for operating noise and filter replacement needs at the setting you expect to use. Avoid air cleaners that intentionally produce ozone. EPA does not certify or recommend specific brands or models.
Central heating or cooling system filter
EPA advises using a MERV 13 filter, or the highest rating your HVAC system can accommodate. Confirm compatibility with the system manual or an HVAC technician before upgrading: a filter that the system cannot handle may interfere with airflow. An HVAC filter only filters air while the system is running, and more frequent or longer operation can affect energy use and humidity control.

How to reduce road construction noise indoors
Closing windows may reduce direct airborne sound, but there is no universal reduction figure established for homes beside road work. Sound can also travel through building materials and other paths, so the window may not be the only route into a room.
OSHA technical material discusses barriers as a workplace noise-control measure, not a residential installation standard. Its principles illustrate why placement, size, and gaps matter: gaps can significantly diminish a barrier’s attenuation. They do not predict how much a particular fence, window, or household change will reduce construction noise at your home. See OSHA’s occupational noise guidance and OSHA’s noise technical material.

- For persistent or severe disruption, ask the project office about work schedules and the construction-noise rules that apply locally.
- If you are considering window or building changes, ask a qualified acoustic or window professional to assess the sound paths and installation constraints at your home. No particular product or performance result is established here.
- Earplugs or earmuffs may help an individual cope briefly, but they do not reduce noise entering the home. OSHA discusses hearing protection in an occupational context and treats controlling noise at its source as preferable.
Find out which dust-control and noise rules apply locally
Requirements and complaint processes can vary by jurisdiction and project. Do not assume that a rule for one kind of construction site applies to every road project. Identify the project owner or permit office, then ask the relevant local environmental regulator which dust-control requirements and complaint procedures apply at that site. For guidance on why applicability depends on the site and rules in force, see EPA’s demolition dust-control information; it is not a universal rule for road construction.
For noise concerns, ask the project office or local authority which work-hour limits or complaint channels apply in your area. The federal OSHA figures sometimes cited for occupational hearing programs are workplace guidance, not residential construction-noise limits.
