A GoBox 10 suits compact field essentials; a GoBox 20 fits a serious emergency kit or larger electronics; a GoBox 30 handles camp kitchens and recovery gear; and a GoBox 60 carries extended base-camp loads. The boxes are protective cases rather than coolers, so preserve usable volume, follow manufacturer safety instructions for fuel and batteries, and replenish consumables after every trip.
Choose the GoBox size before you buy organizers
The right size is determined by four practical questions: how much volume the load occupies, whether any object sets a minimum internal dimension, how quickly you need to reach it, and whether the box will be carried, tied down, or stacked. Starting with the smallest case that fits the mission reduces wasted space and keeps modules easy to remove. Buying every accessory first often produces a box full of dividers and little room for the gear itself.

| Model | Useful mission | Published dimensions or capacity | Planning implication |
|---|---|---|---|
| GoBox 10 | Radios, small optics, a first-aid kit and compact field essentials | Internal: 12.9 × 9.3 × 5.1 in | Best when the kit must stay compact and portable; measure rigid items before selecting it. |
| GoBox 20 | Emergency or survival kits, laptops and tablets, knives and hatchets, optics and firearm accessories | Internal: 16.5 × 11.4 × 6.7 in; 21.37 L capacity | A practical size for a complete personal emergency kit or electronics load without moving to a large base-camp case. |
| GoBox 30 | Camp kitchen and cookware, drones and camera gear, tripods, lighting and recovery gear | Exterior: 20.4 × 14.7 × 11.2 in | Provides the depth and footprint needed for grouped equipment; check the dimensions of pans, tripods and recovery hardware. |
| GoBox 60 | Full hunting or fishing loads, extended base-camp supplies, watersports, large optics and multi-week expeditions | Exterior: 30 × 18.5 × 13.4 in | Use when the box will live as a tied-down or stacked cache rather than a frequently hand-carried kit. |
The dimensions in the table are not interchangeable: internal measurements describe the space available to your gear, while exterior measurements describe the footprint you must fit in a vehicle, rack or storage area. For an unusually shaped load, make a cardboard mock-up of the internal length, width and height, then allow clearance for the lid, trays and any insert you plan to install.

When a smaller case is safer and faster
A compact GoBox 10 or 20 can be carried to the work area instead of becoming a permanent vehicle trunk. It also limits the amount of gear you have to search through. Select one only after checking the tallest item, including protective caps, and the longest item laid diagonally if the case will hold it that way. A lid organizer or tray cannot compensate for an object that prevents the lid from closing.

When to move up a size
Choose a GoBox 30 when separate kitchen, lighting, repair and recovery modules would otherwise be stacked on top of one another. The GoBox 60 is appropriate for an extended cache, but its larger footprint makes tie-down points, lifting access and vehicle loading part of the decision. A large box that is too heavy to move safely is a poor emergency kit even if every item fits.
Use a modular layout instead of one deep pile
The most usable arrangement has three layers: a thin, quick-access layer in the lid; removable modules in the middle; and dense or bulky items in the main compartment. Pack Attic or MOLLE storage can hold flat items in the lid. Trays, dividers, Gear Cubes and the caddy turn the main compartment into modules that can be lifted out as a group. The GoBox 60 documentation also describes removable trays, dividers and Pack Attic organization.
- Measure the actual load. Lay out every item, including cases, cables and protective packaging. Record the largest length, width and height and estimate the combined volume.
- Assign tasks to modules. Create names such as “cutting and fastening,” “power,” “kitchen,” “lighting,” “first aid” or “water treatment.” Keep items used together in the same removable unit.
- Reserve the lid. Put only thin items and immediate-access supplies there: tape, bits, gloves, a headlamp, a printed contact card or a small notebook.
- Load the main compartment by density. Place heavy, rigid or bulky equipment low and centered. Put lighter modules above or around it without blocking the lid or latches.
- Test removal before finalizing. Every module should come out without unpacking another one. If a tray must be removed to reach a first-aid pouch, the order is wrong.
- Label both the module and its location. A label on a Gear Cube tells you what is inside; a location label on the lid or divider tells another user where it belongs after use.
Leave clearance around accessories. A divider, caddy or protective insert consumes space, and several small organizers can reduce usable capacity more than expected. If the packed box closes only when contents are compressed, remove an accessory or move to the next size rather than forcing the latches.

For general hand tools, organize by the work sequence rather than alphabetically. A removable caddy or Gear Cube should contain the tools used together, while chargers, batteries and cords live in a separate labeled power module. Keep the lid available for thin consumables and measuring tools that are likely to be needed before the larger modules are unloaded.
Suggested tool modules
- Layout and measuring: tape measures, pencils or markers, a small level, chalk or marking supplies and a compact square.
- Fastening and cutting: drivers, bits, pliers, utility knives and the specific blades or bits required for the job.
- Power: chargers, batteries, adapters and cords in a separate module so a dead battery does not lead to a search through sharp tools.
- Protection and cleanup: gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, rags, ties and a small waste bag.
- Repair and contingency: tape, spare fasteners, fuses or small replacement parts chosen for the equipment you actually carry.
Put the caddy or most frequently used Gear Cube nearest the opening. Keep dense metal tools low enough that they do not shift into the lid during transport. Use dividers for items that can damage one another, such as sharp blades beside delicate measuring instruments. A KOR Protective Insert or another model-specific insert may make sense for unusually delicate equipment, but verify compatibility and account for the volume it occupies.

Power-tool vault layout
YETI’s buying guidance identifies the GoBox 15 as a power-tool-vault use case and lists Gear Cubes and KOR inserts among compatible organization options. Treat that as a starting point, not proof that every tool or battery fits. Measure the tool body, battery attached and charger brick separately. Place batteries so terminals cannot contact loose metal, and follow the battery maker’s transport and temperature instructions; the case does not replace those safety practices.
Tool-box check before leaving
- Open and close the lid with every module installed.
- Confirm that long tools do not press against the latch area.
- Check that chargers and batteries are labeled by voltage or platform.
- Remove wet, dirty or sharp tools for cleaning instead of sealing them in the case.
- After the job, return each module to its marked position and replace consumables.
Organize camping gear around camp tasks
A camp box works best when it answers the question “What do I need next?” Divide the load into camp kitchen, lighting and power, repair, and hygiene modules. Keep day-one essentials in the lid or top tray so you can make camp without emptying the whole box.
Camp kitchen module
Group cookware, utensils, preparation tools, cleaning supplies and a small waste solution together. Nest pots and pans only when doing so will not trap moisture or damage coatings. Put frequently used utensils in a caddy or shallow tray; reserve the bottom of the box for heavier cookware. If you carry a stove, measure it with its windscreen, hose and case installed, not just the burner body.
Stove fuel, liquid fuel, gas cartridges and other safety-sensitive items must be stored and transported according to their manufacturers’ instructions. Do not place fuel loose among cookware merely because it fits. Keep fuel separated from ignition sources and inspect containers before every trip.
Lighting and power module
Store headlamps, lanterns, spare batteries, power banks, charging cables and adapters together. Label cables by device or connector. Keep batteries protected from short circuits and follow the battery manufacturer’s guidance for temperature, charging and transport. Put one light and its required power source in the lid or top tray as the first-night set.

Repair and hygiene modules
The repair module can hold cordage, tape, patches, a multitool, spare hardware and the tools needed for your shelter or cooking system. The hygiene module can hold soap, sanitizer, toilet supplies, a small towel and personal essentials. Separate wet items in sealed bags so condensation does not spread through the box.

Assemble an emergency or survival GoBox
A GoBox 20 is a practical compact emergency or survival kit. A household cache or base-camp supply may require a larger model, but size alone does not make a kit useful. Prioritize communication, light, first aid, water treatment and the information needed to act when the main equipment is inaccessible.
Divide the kit by priority
- Immediate response: first-aid supplies, a flashlight or headlamp, gloves and a printed contact card.
- Communication: radio, charging method, spare batteries and a written list of important numbers or frequencies.
- Water: water-treatment supplies and the instructions required to use them safely.
- Power: batteries, power bank, cables and adapters matched to the devices in the kit.
- Tools and shelter support: compact cutting, fastening, repair or signaling items selected for the likely emergency.
Place the highest-priority module in the lid or top tray. Keep heavier items low and leave enough space to remove the first-aid or communication module without disturbing water-treatment supplies. A printed inventory inside the lid helps a second person find items quickly and reveals what must be replaced.
Expiration and battery checks
Write a review date on the inventory and check medication, sterile dressings, water-treatment products, food-related items and batteries on a schedule appropriate to their manufacturers’ expiration or storage guidance. Replace anything used, expired, leaking or corroded. Do not treat the protective case as a substitute for medical, chemical or battery storage requirements.
Household versus vehicle kits
A vehicle kit must tolerate vibration and should be arranged so the first-response module is reachable without unloading the entire cargo area. A household kit can be larger and may include duplicate supplies for several people, but it still benefits from removable modules. If the box will be tied down, keep access to the latches and tie-down slots clear.

Understand protection, latches and tie-down features
YETI describes the GoBox as a protective gear case, not a cooler, and says to fill it with anything but ice. Its documentation lists IP65 and IP67 protection, meaning dust protection and resistance to jet-propelled water, with the IP67 specification covering temporary submersion up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes under the applicable test conditions. These ratings do not make the contents indestructible, waterproof in every real-world situation or safe to submerge with an improperly closed lid.
The GoBox 20 specifications list Lockdown Latches, AnchorPoint tie-down slots, BearFoot non-slip feet, Lockports and a five-year warranty. Use the latches as designed, keep sealing surfaces clean, and inspect the box after a hard impact. Use appropriate tie-down hardware for the vehicle or rack; the slots are attachment points, not permission to exceed the load limits of your transport system.
Protection decisions while packing
- Use dividers or protective inserts when optics, lenses, cameras or delicate electronics could contact tools.
- Keep sharp edges capped and prevent them from shifting into cables or medical packaging.
- Do not seal damp equipment until it is dry or isolated.
- Do not store fuel, medication, firearms or batteries in ways that conflict with their manufacturer or local safety requirements.
- Check that accessories do not obstruct the gasket, latches or pressure-equalization features.
Pressure equalization helps the case handle changes in ambient pressure, but it does not replace a properly closed lid. Open the box, inspect the contents and let moisture escape after exposure to rain, spray or submersion.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Select accessories without sacrificing capacity
| Accessory | Best use | Trade-off to check |
|---|---|---|
| Pack Attic | Thin, quick-access items in the lid | Consumes lid clearance and should not be overloaded. |
| MOLLE Panel | Small pouches and tools that must be visible or reachable | Pouches add depth and can reduce the space available for the main load. |
| Removable tray | A top layer for frequently used supplies | Reduces vertical room below; verify that tall items still fit. |
| Dividers | Separating tools, electronics or modules | Every divider occupies some volume; use only where separation prevents damage or confusion. |
| Gear Cube | Removable task modules for grouped equipment | Its outside dimensions, not its advertised category, determine whether it fits. |
| Caddy | Open-top access to hand tools or small supplies | Can crowd the opening if packed too high. |
| KOR Protective Insert | Model-specific protection for delicate equipment | Confirm compatibility and measure the space lost to foam or structure. |
Accessories are optional or model-specific. Before ordering, measure the loaded box with the lid closed and compare those measurements with the accessory’s installed footprint. If you need several organizers, sketch the cross-section: lid storage, tray height, module height and bottom clearance. A simple sketch prevents the common mistake of buying a tray that leaves no room for the item it was meant to organize.
Pack, label and maintain the box
A repeatable packing method
- Empty the box and clean out grit, leaves and moisture.
- Place the heaviest stable items in the bottom center.
- Add dividers or inserts around items that can scratch, crush or short-circuit one another.
- Set removable task modules around the dense items, keeping the emergency or first-use module closest to the opening.
- Load the tray or lid organizer with thin items only.
- Close the lid slowly and confirm that nothing presses against the gasket or latch.
- Shake the closed box gently. If contents slide, add separation or change the layout rather than relying on compression.
- Record the final layout on an inventory card stored in the lid.
Label for another person, not just yourself
Use large, durable labels that state both the task and a short inventory: “POWER — 4 batteries, charger, USB-C cable” is more useful than “misc.” Number modules if the box has a fixed order, and mark the empty location for a module that may be removed at camp or on a job. Use a waterproof label or a protected card where condensation is possible.

Replenish after every use
Make restocking part of closing the box. Replace consumed tape, first-aid items, batteries, water-treatment supplies, fuel-related accessories and hygiene products before storage. Inspect for corrosion, leaks, dirt and damaged cases. Review expiration dates and battery condition on the schedule you wrote on the inventory card, not only when an emergency or trip is imminent.
Troubleshoot common organization failures
The lid will not close
Remove the lid organizer or tray temporarily and identify what is setting the height. Measure the tallest item with its protective case. Move that item to a deeper model, lower it into the main compartment or remove an accessory. Never force the latches against an overloaded seal.
The box is full but the mission kit is incomplete
Separate mission-critical items from convenience items, then remove duplicate cases and low-priority accessories. Rebuild around modules and keep dense objects low. If the critical items still exceed the internal dimensions, choose the next size rather than compressing first-aid, electrical or protective equipment.
Small items disappear
Use a caddy, Gear Cube or labeled pouch for small parts, and reserve one lid location for the items needed at every stop. Keep a short inventory on the lid so missing items are noticed before departure.
Delicate gear is being damaged
Separate it from metal tools with dividers or a compatible protective insert. Prevent movement by filling empty space with purpose-built organization rather than loose fabric that can shift into controls or lenses. Check the load after transport over rough roads.
The box is awkward to lift or tie down
Redistribute weight toward the center and remove modules before carrying the case any distance. For vehicle or rack transport, use the AnchorPoint tie-down slots with hardware suitable for the installation and keep access to the latches. A GoBox 60 may be the right volume for an expedition but still require two-person handling or a fixed transport position.
A practical final layout for each mission
| Mission | Lid or top tray | Removable modules | Main-compartment priorities |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tools | Tape, bits, gloves, measuring tools | Hand-tool caddy; power module; repair and protection module | Heavy tools, chargers and rigid cases centered and low |
| Camping | Headlamp, lighter or approved fire-starting item, first-night utensils and small repair supplies | Kitchen; lighting and power; repair; hygiene | Cookware and other bulky equipment, separated from safety-sensitive fuel |
| Emergency | First aid, flashlight, radio and contact card | Communication; water treatment; power; tools and shelter support | Dense supplies low, with a printed inventory and clear access path |
Choose the case from the largest object and the transport method, then organize around the first task you will perform. The result should be a set of labeled modules that can be removed independently, a lid reserved for immediate needs, and enough empty clearance that the protective case and its hardware do not crowd out the supplies they are meant to protect.
