What “longer and wider” means in the source
Make attributes this suggestion to Instructables user rog8811: “Go mad! Get as many plumbing parts as you can screw and glue together to make the sound path long and wider.” It is an informal suggestion, not a measured acoustics rule or a tested performance claim. The source does not establish that adding fittings will make this particular horn louder or work better.
A separate DIY horn for understanding the sound principle
KiwiCo’s balloon-and-tube air horn is a different build: it uses blowing air and a balloon as a vibrating membrane, with plastic tubes rather than a PVC sink trap and hand pump. It can illustrate how a flexible membrane can vibrate to create sound, but it is not a guide to the PVC foghorn’s construction or performance.
