First identify whether your Ice Castle has a hydraulic drop-down system or a cable-and-winch system. The owner’s manual gives different release points and lowering steps for each; do not combine them. Follow the instructions for the equipment installed on your house, and keep clear of the frame, hitch and wheels throughout the operation.
Before you lower the house
Confirm which system is installed and use the matching procedure below. Ice Castle’s Resources page provides access to the owner’s manual and service and parts resources. If your unit’s controls or setup do not match the manual, stop and confirm the correct procedure for that house before operating it.
- Keep hands and feet clear of the frame. Stand clear of the hitch, wheels and frame while the house is moving.
- Check clamps and cables before operating winches or hydraulics.
Lower a hydraulic drop-down Ice Castle
- Remove the hitch safety pin before lowering.
- Operate the installed hydraulic system using the controls and instructions for your unit. The manual’s general passage does not give one universal switch-by-switch sequence for every hydraulic installation.
- Stay clear of the hitch, wheels and frame, and keep hands and feet away from the frame while it lowers.
Before hydraulic operation, check the reservoir and inspect the pump, rams and hoses for leaks or damage. The manual warns that failure to follow its operating instructions may cause serious bodily injury or death, or damage to the fish house.
Lower a cable-and-winch drop-down Ice Castle
- Remove the safety pins on the hitch and leaf springs.
- Lower the front hitch winch first.
- Then lower the side winches.
Stand behind the winch and clear of the hitch, wheels and frame. Do not lean over the leaf spring, and keep hands and feet clear of the frame. This order is for the cable system described in the manual, not the hydraulic system.

Hydraulic oil guidance and cautions
If your Ice Castle has a hydraulic system and you need to select or add fluid, confirm the instructions for your specific system and its operating temperatures first. The owner’s manual gives this guidance:

The manual lists Chevron Rando HDZ, Mobil DTE 10 or DTE 20 series, AMSOIL and Shell Tellus as examples of premium hydraulic oils. It says not to use biodegradable hydraulic fluid, mix fluid types or overfill the reservoir. These examples do not establish one universally correct product for every unit.

If the system is unclear or appears damaged
Do not guess at a procedure or continue operating equipment that appears damaged or is leaking. Check the instructions for your specific house and use the service or parts resources linked from Ice Castle USA’s Resources page if you need help identifying the system or its requirements.
