The Colburn School is at 200 South Grand Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90012, at Grand Avenue and Second Street in downtown LA. Visitors can reach it by Metro, bus, or car. Do not assume you can park in the campus garage: Colburn reserves that structure for students, faculty, staff, and visitors with special permission. For other visitors, Colburn identifies Lot 3, Athena Parking, and several nearby public garages as options.

The most useful arrival plan is to choose the mode and the specific parking facility or station before setting out. Colburn’s campus garage, its guest parking reference, and the nearby public garages are distinct options with different access rules. The published garage prices also include different time windows, and some figures differ across Colburn pages. Confirm the details that matter for your trip rather than treating a posted rate as a guaranteed live quote.

Where is the Colburn School?

Colburn is on the corner of Grand Avenue and Second Street, across from The Broad and diagonally across from Walt Disney Concert Hall. Use the full address, 200 South Grand Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90012, for navigation. The campus, public garages, and nearby venues are close together, so check the garage name and entrance address before driving; a nearby structure is not necessarily Colburn’s campus garage.

The address is a useful destination for reaching the school, but a driver who intends to park should enter the name or entrance location of the chosen garage as well. A map pin for Colburn will not determine whether a particular structure is open to you, nor will it necessarily direct you to the right driveway. In this area, the difference between Colburn’s Lot 1 and the Walt Disney Concert Hall Garage matters: they are across the street from one another, and Colburn specifically warns authorized Lot 1 drivers not to enter the concert hall lot by mistake.

If you are going to a performance, distinguish the campus address from the venue entrance details. Colburn’s information for Zipper Hall gives more than one approach through the Colburn Plaza. The Second Street plaza approach requires stairs, whereas the Grand Avenue approach is an outdoor walkway. Those details can help you choose an approach, but they are not a full evaluation of access across the campus or from every nearby garage.

Can visitors park in Colburn’s campus garage?

Usually, no. Colburn says its campus parking structure is reserved for students, faculty, staff, or visitors who have special permission. A performance ticket or visit to the school should not be treated as authorization to enter it. The fact that a campus garage appears close to your destination on a map is not evidence that it is available to the general public.

Colburn’s visitor information identifies Lot 3, Athena Parking, on Second Street between Olive and Hill Streets, as guest parking. Its performance FAQ also describes Lot 3 as paid parking. The pages do not state a Lot 3 rate, so confirm the current price and availability before relying on it. In particular, do not assume Lot 3 has the same price or access terms as Lot 1 or any of the nearby public garages.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It helps to keep the parking categories separate:

  • Campus structure/Lot 1: Restricted to students, faculty, staff, or visitors with special permission. Specific Lot 1 driving instructions do not give the general public permission to park there.
  • Lot 3, Athena Parking: Identified by Colburn’s visitor information as guest parking on Second Street between Olive and Hill. It is paid parking, but the pages cited here do not provide a price.
  • Nearby public garages: Colburn lists several facilities with published rates and entrance locations. Check their current terms, rate windows, and availability directly before traveling.

Colburn also describes limited free student and family spaces in its parking policy. Those spaces are first come, first served, are not guaranteed, and are guidance for students and families—not general visitor parking. The policy says the garage often fills, particularly on Wednesdays and Saturdays. These details do not change the campus garage’s eligibility rules for other visitors, and they should not be read as a promise that a student or family will find a free space on a particular day.

If you are a student or family member, use the policy that applies to your status and check the current rules before going. If you are a general visitor, plan around the guest parking and public garage options instead. That avoids arriving at a restricted entrance expecting that a concert, appointment, or campus visit will qualify as special permission.

Nearby public garages and published rates

Colburn’s directions page lists the following public garages and rates. These are figures published on that page, not guaranteed live quotes. Rates may change, and Colburn’s student parking policy lists different amounts for some of the same garages. Check directly with the garage or its current listing before your trip.

Garage Rate listed on Colburn’s directions page Entrance listed by Colburn
Walt Disney Concert Hall Garage $10 flat rate on weekdays after 4:30 p.m., two hours before matinee performances, and all day on weekends. At other times, $3.50 per 15 minutes, with a $20 maximum. Second Street or Lower Grand Avenue
The Broad Museum Garage $19 on weeknights after 5 p.m. and all day on weekends. Second Street between Grand and Hope
221 W. 2nd Street $10 all day. Second Street between Broadway and Spring
230 S. Hill Street $12 all day. Second Street between Broadway and Spring
255 S. Grand Avenue $5.50 per 15 minutes, with a $30 maximum. Grand Avenue between Second and Third

For the Walt Disney Concert Hall Garage, the flat-rate windows matter: outside those windows, the per-15-minute rate applies, subject to the listed maximum. For the other garages, the cited directions page gives a time window for The Broad but describes the 221 W. 2nd Street and 230 S. Hill Street rates as all-day rates. Confirm the amount and applicable terms at the time you park.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

These figures are not all expressed in the same way, so compare them by the timing of your visit as well as by the number on the page. The Walt Disney Concert Hall Garage has a stated event- and time-dependent flat rate, plus a per-15-minute rate at other times and a listed maximum. The Broad’s figure applies on weeknights after 5 p.m. and all day on weekends. The two street-address garages are described with all-day figures. The 255 S. Grand Avenue garage is listed at a per-15-minute price and a maximum. A lower-looking price is not automatically the best choice if your arrival time falls outside its stated window or if a maximum or other current term changes the total.

The entrance location is another practical comparison. The Walt Disney Concert Hall Garage has entrances on Second Street or Lower Grand Avenue. The Broad entrance is on Second Street between Grand and Hope. The entrances for 221 W. 2nd Street and 230 S. Hill Street are listed on Second Street between Broadway and Spring, while 255 S. Grand Avenue is entered on Grand between Second and Third. Because the facilities are in the same general downtown area, using the exact entrance location in your navigation can be more useful than choosing a garage by name alone.

Colburn’s student parking policy says rates and availability can change and points students to SpotHero for current availability and pricing. That is a parking-check resource, not a promise that a particular space is available or that a listed rate will remain unchanged. The student policy also lists different amounts for some garages than the directions page does. Do not combine figures from those pages into a single supposedly definitive price; use the page relevant to your parking situation, then confirm the current terms with the facility or its current listing.

Before committing to a garage, check the exact facility name, entrance, rate window for your planned arrival, any listed maximum, and current availability. For Lot 3, check its current price and availability because Colburn’s visitor information does not give a rate. If you are choosing among public garages, compare the published figures as a starting point, not as guaranteed prices at the time you arrive.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Which parking option should you choose?

  • Need a public garage: Compare the listed rate window, maximum, and entrance address. The Walt Disney Concert Hall Garage has event- and time-dependent pricing; the other published figures have their own stated windows.
  • Considering campus parking: Use it only if you are a student, faculty member, staff member, or have special permission. Otherwise, check Lot 3 or a public garage.
  • Want to minimize uncertainty: Confirm the current rate and availability with the garage or a current listing before setting out. The official pages do not establish one definitive live price for every facility.
  • Choosing by approach: Match the entrance address to your planned route and destination. Garage entrances are not interchangeable just because the structures are near one another.

A useful way to make the choice is to answer five questions in order:

  1. Are you eligible for the campus structure? If you do not have one of the listed affiliations or special permission, remove it from your options. A Lot 1 PDF is an access guide for authorized users, not public parking authorization.
  2. Do you need Colburn-designated guest parking or a public garage? Colburn names Lot 3, Athena Parking, for guests. The nearby garages on the directions page are another set of choices. Lot 3’s rate is not provided on the cited visitor information, so verify it rather than guessing.
  3. Does the published rate fit your arrival time? Check whether the quoted amount is a flat rate for a particular event or time window, an all-day rate, or a per-15-minute charge. The Walt Disney Concert Hall Garage has different listed pricing inside and outside its flat-rate windows.
  4. Can you identify the correct entrance? Use the entrance street and cross streets, not just the facility name. The two Second Street approaches for different facilities should not be presumed to lead to the same garage.
  5. Have you checked the current details? Rates and availability can change, and Colburn’s directions and student policy do not list identical amounts for some garages. A current confirmation is more reliable than assuming an older posted figure still applies.

For example, a visitor arriving on a weekday evening can compare the listed Walt Disney Concert Hall flat-rate window after 4:30 p.m. with The Broad’s weeknight rate after 5 p.m. The appropriate comparison still depends on the arrival time, the garage’s current terms, and the entrance that best serves the visit. A visitor coming at a different time should not assume either evening price applies. This is why checking the time condition is as important as noting the listed dollar amount.

Likewise, a visitor seeking campus parking should not treat the student/family policy’s limited free spaces as a substitute for public parking. Those spaces are not guaranteed, the policy notes that the garage often fills especially on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and the guidance is for students and families. General visitors should make their plan using Lot 3 or a public facility unless they have special permission to use the campus structure.

Getting to Colburn by Metro or bus

Colburn says two Metro stations are within walking distance:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Grand Avenue Arts/Bunker Hill: Served by the A and E lines; the station is near Hope and Second.
  • Civic Center/Grand Park: Served by the B and D lines; the station is near Hill and First.

Colburn’s directions page says more than 30 bus lines stop close to campus. Which line or station is most convenient depends on where you are starting and on current service. Use the LA Metro Trip Planner to check routes and schedules for your travel time; service details can change. From either station, follow the walking route shown by your map or trip planner to 200 South Grand Avenue.

The route that works best depends on your starting point and the day and time you travel, so use the station names and line information as a guide rather than assuming a single best route for everyone. The A and E lines serve Grand Avenue Arts/Bunker Hill near Hope and Second; the B and D lines serve Civic Center/Grand Park near Hill and First. Colburn describes both stations as within easy walking distance, but check the current route and walking directions for the specific trip you plan to make.

Bus riders have more than 30 routes stopping close to the campus according to Colburn’s directions page. That number indicates a broad set of nearby bus service, not that every line is useful from every neighborhood or runs on the schedule you need. Check the LA Metro Trip Planner for the applicable route and schedule, and confirm it again if your travel time is different from the one you initially planned.

Transit can simplify the parking decision because it avoids choosing among garages with different rates and entrances. It still requires checking current service and following a walking route from the stop or station to the school. If you are attending a Zipper Hall event, you can also plan which Colburn Plaza approach to use once you reach the campus; the Second Street approach has stairs, while the Grand Avenue approach is an outdoor walkway.

Driving to the school: keep campus parking and public parking separate

Enter the address of the public garage you intend to use into your navigation app, rather than navigating only to Colburn and choosing a nearby gate on arrival. The Walt Disney Concert Hall Garage is diagonally across the street from Colburn’s Lot 1, and Colburn specifically warns drivers following its Lot 1 instructions not to enter the Walt Disney Concert Hall lot by mistake.

Colburn’s Lot 1 PDF gives freeway-specific driving instructions to the Lot 1 entrance on Lower Grand Avenue. Those directions are for authorized Lot 1 parking; they do not grant visitors general permission to use the campus structure. If you have authorization and the Lot 1 gate is down, Colburn’s instructions say to use the intercom. Visitors without authorization should select Lot 3 or a public garage instead.

This distinction matters even if a navigation app places both destinations close to the same block. A route to a campus entrance is not a parking reservation or access approval. If you are authorized to use Lot 1, follow Colburn’s specific instructions and use the intercom if the gate is down. If you are not authorized, do not rely on the Lot 1 directions as a way to obtain entry; choose an option that Colburn identifies for guests or the public.

For a public garage, the practical sequence is to pick the facility first, check its current rate and availability, and then navigate to the entrance Colburn lists. For a campus visit that includes a performance, also confirm the venue entrance you intend to use. This separates three questions that are easy to blur together: how to get to the neighborhood, where you are permitted to park, and which entrance to take after parking.

Finding the entrance for a Zipper Hall event

Colburn says Zipper Hall can be reached from the doors at 200 S. Grand Avenue or through the Colburn Plaza. The plaza has two approaches, and they are not equivalent if stairs are a concern:

  • Second Street approach: The plaza entrance is between Olive and Grand and requires stairs.
  • Grand Avenue approach: The plaza entrance is an outdoor walkway between Second and Third Streets.

This is entrance information for Zipper Hall, not a complete assessment of accessibility throughout the campus or of every route from a station or garage. If you need a step-free route or other access arrangements, contact Colburn for details before traveling.

When planning a Zipper Hall visit, choose the approach based on the entrance detail that is relevant to you. If stairs are a concern, note that the Second Street plaza entrance requires them and that Colburn describes the Grand Avenue approach as an outdoor walkway. Do not infer from that description alone that every part of the route is step-free or that it addresses every accessibility need. Contact Colburn if you need a confirmed route or additional arrangements.

The school’s address and the venue’s approach are related but distinct parts of the arrival plan. You can navigate to 200 S. Grand Avenue for the campus, then follow the venue’s entrance information when you arrive. If you are driving, the garage entrance is a third location to confirm separately; it may be on another street or between different cross streets than the venue approach.

Plan the arrival in a few steps

  1. Choose your mode. For transit, check the LA Metro Trip Planner for a route and current schedule. For driving, decide on an eligible public option rather than assuming the campus garage is open to you.
  2. Confirm the destination. Use 200 South Grand Avenue for the school, or use the exact entrance address of your selected garage. For a Zipper Hall event, note which plaza approach you plan to use.
  3. Check parking terms. Verify the current rate, applicable time window, and availability directly with the garage or a current listing. Colburn’s published directions-page prices can differ from figures on its student parking policy.
  4. Follow the correct entrance instructions. Do not mistake the Walt Disney Concert Hall Garage for Colburn’s Lot 1. Lot 1 directions and the gate intercom apply only to people authorized to use Lot 1.

Before leaving, it can help to keep the key details together: the campus address, the name and entrance location of the chosen garage if driving, the current rate and applicable time window, and the station or bus route if using transit. For Lot 3, confirm the rate because the visitor information identifies it as paid guest parking but does not state a price. For a public garage, check the facility’s current information rather than assuming the figures published on Colburn’s directions page are live quotes.

If your plan changes, reassess the parking eligibility and route rather than switching to the closest visible entrance. Campus parking access is restricted, and the Lot 1 instructions are specific to authorized users. The public garages have their own listed entrances and rate conditions; Lot 3 is separately identified as guest parking. Keeping those categories distinct is the simplest way to avoid arriving at the wrong gate or relying on a price that does not match your visit.
