The construction area is south of the QEW and west of Casablanca Boulevard. Do not enter it to look for a platform, parking lot or pickup zone. Construction traffic is using (or was scheduled to use) Casablanca Boulevard and Livingston Avenue, so people walking or cycling nearby should take extra care.

Where to catch GO service in Grimsby now
Metrolinx identifies the Casablanca/QEW Park & Ride as the current Grimsby-area location with GO bus service. This is the practical alternative while the new rail station is being built. The construction notice does not provide a passenger entrance, temporary platform or rider-specific directions into the worksite.
GO service is date-sensitive. Before leaving, use the live GO trip planner to check the exact stop name, departure time, route pattern and any service notices for your date. The reviewed construction information does not establish whether a temporary stop relocation or a particular access change is in effect on any specific day.

What Route 12 does
Metrolinx’s Confederation GO information describes GO Bus Route 12 as connecting Confederation GO westward to Burlington GO and the Dundas Street & Highway 407 park-and-ride lot. In the opposite direction, the route serves Grimsby, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls. Your trip planner result, rather than a general route description, should determine which bus, stop and direction you use.
Route patterns and departure times can change. Treat the route description as an orientation to the corridor, not as a promise that every departure serves every listed stop. Check both outbound and return journeys, since a convenient morning trip may have a different evening pattern or transfer.
Step-by-step: planning a trip during construction
1. Start with the live trip planner
- Enter your actual origin and destination, travel date and approximate departure or arrival time.
- Choose the result that identifies the current Grimsby-area GO bus stop, normally associated with the Casablanca/QEW Park & Ride, and read every leg of the itinerary.
- Check the direction, route number, departure time, transfer point and any alerts immediately before you leave.
- Save or screenshot the itinerary, including the return trip if you are travelling later the same day.
The construction notice itself does not supply a rider-specific itinerary, exact bus departures or a guaranteed walking approach. Those details belong in the live trip-planning result. If your destination is outside the Route 12 corridor, the planner may show a transfer at Confederation GO, Burlington GO or another location; follow the current itinerary rather than assuming a through bus.
2. Travel to the existing bus facility, not the worksite
Follow the trip planner’s current approach to the Casablanca/QEW Park & Ride. Do not substitute the future station area because it appears closer on a map. The future site is south of the QEW and west of Casablanca Boulevard, but its proposed passenger facilities are not available simply because construction is visible there.
A map label, a construction fence or a newly installed sign does not prove that a public bus bay or rail entrance exists. Use the stop name shown in GO’s current result and follow official signs at the operating facility.
3. Allow time for the final approach
Metrolinx warned that numerous construction vehicles would use Casablanca Boulevard and Livingston Avenue. The notice said construction-related traffic could increase even though major traffic disruptions were not expected. Leave extra time to cross or travel along local roads, obey signs and follow any directions from traffic-control personnel.
Do not assume that a normal weekday route will feel the same on a delivery day, weekend or overnight work period. The announced ordinary work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., but Metrolinx also noted some weekend work and overnight activities.

Use the stop name and bay shown in the current itinerary. Do not board from a construction gate, an unscheduled shoulder or a location inferred from the future station plans. If the stop is unclear when you arrive, use posted GO information or ask on-site transit staff; do not walk into a fenced or signed construction area to investigate.

5. Recheck the return journey
Before returning, check the live schedule again. Evening, weekend and holiday patterns may differ from the outbound trip, and the reviewed sources do not establish a permanent stop arrangement during construction. A stop that is convenient in the morning may have different access or a different departure pattern later.
Why you should not enter the Grimsby GO construction site
Metrolinx’s construction notice describes a controlled-access worksite. It discusses site mobilization, construction vehicles and safety around the perimeter; it does not announce a public rail entrance or passenger access. A construction gate is therefore not a station entrance, even if it is near the planned station footprint.
Do not park, wait for a pickup, walk through the compound or cycle into the site unless an authorized official later announces public access. Stay outside barriers and obey temporary signs. The notice does not provide a public construction-site entrance, an accessible signed walking detour or a turn-by-turn pedestrian route.
For the same reason, do not ask a driver to drop you at the future platform location, and do not use a satellite-image path through the compound. The safe assumption is that all worksite access is for authorized construction activity only.
What construction activity means for people nearby
Mobilization and deliveries
Metrolinx’s notice, with information current as of September 10, 2026, said site-compound setup would begin September 14. Aggregate deliveries were scheduled to begin September 21, with construction vehicles using Casablanca Boulevard and Livingston Avenue. These dates describe the announced work sequence; conditions can change as the project progresses.
The notice specifically cautions that there will be numerous construction vehicles on those roads. Even without a formal closure, turning trucks, delivery queues and temporary traffic controls can change how long the last part of a walk or drive takes.

The notice listed ordinary work hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., while also noting that some weekend work and overnight activities could occur. Plan for vehicle movements outside a simple weekday daytime assumption, particularly if you are walking or cycling near the site early, late or on a weekend.

Walking and cycling precautions
- Use the current sidewalk, crossing and cycling conditions you encounter on the day; the reviewed sources do not identify a single signed detour route.
- Stay alert for turning trucks on Casablanca Boulevard and Livingston Avenue.
- Do not bypass barricades, fencing or site signage to shorten your route.
- If an approach feels unsafe or is blocked, use the trip planner and current local directions to find another way to the existing bus facility rather than improvising through the worksite.
- Allow extra time for crossings and keep headphones off or volume low while moving near active vehicle access.
People using mobility devices should verify the current accessible approach rather than relying on an old map. The official material reviewed does not identify an accessible signed walking route, so ask local transit staff or consult current municipal information if a curb, crossing or sidewalk condition is unclear.
Driving, drop-off and pickup during construction
Driving to GO service
The current passenger option is the existing GO bus facility at Casablanca/QEW Park & Ride. Use the live trip planner and current on-site signs for the applicable parking and bus-bay information. The reviewed construction material does not state that any future station parking is open, nor does it give a current parking capacity for people using today’s bus service.
Do not count the future project’s announced spaces as available today. Ontario’s October 8, 2026 announcement lists 220 planned parking spaces for the completed station, but that figure is not a present-day parking guarantee.

Being dropped off or collected
Do not assume that the future station’s planned passenger pickup and drop-off area is available. Ask your driver to use the current, signed passenger facility identified for your bus departure, and agree on a meeting point that does not obstruct bus operations or construction traffic.
Have the driver wait only where stopping is permitted. Construction access roads and gates are not substitute passenger zones, and stopping there can interfere with trucks or traffic-control personnel.
Arriving by taxi or rideshare
Give the driver the current GO bus stop or park-and-ride name from your itinerary. Saying “the new Grimsby GO station” may direct a driver toward the construction perimeter, where passenger access is controlled. If the driver needs a landmark, provide the official stop name and confirm the arrival point against current signs.
Future station location and planned facilities
Niagara Region describes the project as a new station between Confederation GO in east Hamilton and St. Catharines GO. The planned site is south of the QEW and west of Casablanca Boulevard. Proposed elements include a customer platform, bus loop for GO Bus and Niagara Region Transit, shelters, fare-payment kiosks, digital information and wayfinding screens, a parking lot, bicycle racks, a pickup/drop-off area and pedestrian access.

Ontario’s October 8, 2026 announcement says major construction has started and lists a more specific planned configuration: one rail platform with a heated shelter and canopy, a five-bay bus loop, 220 parking spaces, bicycle parking and passenger pickup/drop-off zones. These are design and capacity figures for the completed project, not facilities that current travellers can use during construction.

The planned bus loop is intended to serve both GO Bus and Niagara Region Transit, but the announcement does not make those future bays operational now. Similarly, proposed fare kiosks, digital screens and wayfinding equipment should not be expected at the construction perimeter.
Expected opening date
The Town of Grimsby’s July 7, 2026 announcement said the station was expected to open in summer 2027. The later provincial announcement confirms that major construction has started but, in the material reviewed, does not provide a revised opening date. Treat summer 2027 as the Town’s earlier estimate, not a guaranteed service-start date. Check a current Metrolinx or Town announcement before changing your travel plan from bus to rail.
Current bus service versus the future rail station
| Question | GO bus at Casablanca/QEW Park & Ride now | Future Grimsby GO rail station |
|---|---|---|
| Can you use it today? | Metrolinx identifies existing GO bus service there; verify the stop and schedule on your travel date. | No. The reviewed notice describes a controlled construction site, not an open passenger station. |
| Service described by official sources | Route 12 is described as serving the Hamilton-Burlington-Grimsby-St. Catharines-Niagara Falls corridor. | Rail service details and a current passenger timetable are not stated in the reviewed material. |
| Parking and passenger facilities | Use current on-site information; construction documents do not establish future-station parking availability for today. | Planned: 220 parking spaces, bicycle parking, pickup/drop-off zones, shelters and a bus loop. |
| Access conditions | Use the active stop shown by GO Transit and follow local signs. | Worksite access is controlled; no public entrance or signed passenger approach is identified. |
| Opening or availability date | Existing service, subject to live schedules and service alerts. | Summer 2027 was an earlier Town estimate; no guaranteed opening date is established by the later announcement reviewed. |
The practical difference is availability versus future capacity. The bus is the service you can plan around now, while the rail station’s platform, bus bays, parking and passenger amenities remain project features until Metrolinx announces opening and operating details.
Questions to resolve before you set out
Official project and transit information does not currently answer several day-of-travel questions. Confirm them rather than relying on a map pin or an old social-media post:
- Which exact bus stop and bay will serve your departure?
- Are there temporary stop relocations, road restrictions or changed access arrangements on your date?
- What is the safest signed walking or cycling approach from your starting point?
- Are weekend or overnight construction movements affecting the local roads when you travel?
- What is the latest return departure after your activity?
- Where can a driver legally meet you without blocking buses or construction vehicles?
- Does your itinerary require a transfer, and is there enough time for it?
Use the live GO trip planner for transit details and current municipal or regional traffic and construction information for road conditions. The reviewed project notice does not provide a live road-closure list or an accessible walking map.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Searching for a rail platform: the station is not open to passengers.
- Using the future parking count as today’s capacity: the 220 spaces are planned, not confirmed for current use.
- Following an old route screenshot: stop locations, times and patterns can change.
- Walking through a gap in fencing: controlled access means the area is not a public shortcut.
- Assuming no closure means no delay: truck movements can slow the local approach even when major disruptions are not expected.
- Relying on a generic Route 12 description: check the exact departure, direction and stop in the live planner.
Day-of-travel checklist
- Confirm that your itinerary points to the existing Casablanca/QEW Park & Ride bus facility.
- Check the route number, direction, departure time and stop name immediately before departure.
- Allow additional time for construction traffic on Casablanca Boulevard and Livingston Avenue.
- Carry your itinerary or screenshot in case mobile coverage or page content changes.
- Use only marked passenger areas; never wait at a construction gate.
- Keep children, luggage and bicycles clear of vehicle movements and barriers.
- Recheck the return trip and any late-evening or weekend service.
- Verify current road and sidewalk conditions if you are walking, cycling or using a mobility device.
What to expect when the station is complete
When Metrolinx eventually opens the rail station, the planned customer experience is expected to differ from today’s bus-only arrangement: a rail platform with a heated shelter and canopy, a five-bay bus loop, 220 parking spaces, bicycle parking, passenger pickup and drop-off areas, and passenger-information and fare-payment facilities are all part of the announced plans. None of those features should be treated as operational until an official opening notice and current station information say they are available.
The station is planned to fill a gap between Confederation GO and St. Catharines GO, but the reviewed announcements do not provide a final rail timetable, fare details or opening-day boarding instructions. Those should be checked when Metrolinx publishes them.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I enter the Grimsby GO construction site to catch a train?
No. Metrolinx describes controlled worksite access and does not identify a public passenger entrance. Use the existing GO bus service at the Casablanca/QEW Park & Ride instead.
Where do I catch the GO bus in Grimsby during construction?
Metrolinx identifies the Casablanca/QEW Park & Ride as the current local GO bus facility. Confirm the exact stop, bay and departure in GO Transit’s live trip planner on your travel date.
Does Route 12 serve Grimsby?
Metrolinx’s Confederation GO information describes Route 12 as serving Grimsby, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls in one direction, with service toward Burlington GO and the Dundas Street & Highway 407 park-and-ride lot in the other. Check the individual trip result because not every departure necessarily serves every stop.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCan I park at the future Grimsby GO station now?
Do not assume so. The 220 parking spaces announced by Ontario are planned facilities for the completed station, not proof that construction-site parking is open today.
When will Grimsby GO open?
The Town of Grimsby said in July 2026 that opening was expected in summer 2027. Treat that as an estimate; the later provincial announcement confirms major construction but does not provide a guaranteed opening date.
Is there a walking or cycling detour to the bus stop?
The official material reviewed does not identify a single signed accessible detour or exact pedestrian approach. Check current local conditions, use caution near Casablanca Boulevard and Livingston Avenue, and never enter the worksite.
Can a taxi or rideshare drop me at the new station?
Ask the driver to use the current GO bus facility named in your itinerary. The future pickup and drop-off zones are planned, not confirmed as operating during construction.
The Bottom Line
For travel now, go to the Casablanca/QEW Park & Ride, not the Grimsby GO construction site. Check the live GO trip planner for your exact bus stop, route, direction and time; allow extra time around Casablanca Boulevard and Livingston Avenue; and stay outside all controlled work areas. Summer 2027 remains the Town of Grimsby’s earlier opening estimate, not a confirmed rail-service date.
