The title “Excavator Moving Rocks Video” does not identify one verifiable clip, operator, worksite, machine or attachment. It is best treated as a video-discovery query. Excavators can move rocks with a conventional bucket, a bucket fitted with a thumb, or a dedicated rock grab, but the correct choice and the safe load depend on the excavator’s model, coupler, hydraulic configuration, load position and lift chart.

Manufacturer galleries include relevant examples, including an RSBM listing titled “HD Rock Bucket for 48T Excavator,” but that does not establish that it is the clip you mean or demonstrate a particular machine’s performance. Use the guidance below to locate the intended footage and judge what it actually shows without treating a video as proof that a load is safe.

Why the exact excavator moving rocks video cannot be identified from the title alone

A short title leaves out the details needed to distinguish one clip from thousands of similar videos. There is no confirmed publication, uploader, date, location, excavator model, operating weight, attachment, rock size or task description attached to the wording. A clip could show quarry loading, landscape boulder placement, road work, demolition cleanup, river-bank work or a controlled product demonstration.

That distinction matters because two videos can look similar while representing very different risks. A machine loading loose aggregate into a truck is not performing the same task as one placing individual boulders on a slope. A rock bucket may be carrying material in a scoop, while a thumb or grab may be clamping a single irregular stone. Without the original page, it is not possible to say what the operator did before or after the visible moment, whether the ground was engineered, or whether the load was within the machine’s rated capacity.

Search results do provide useful equipment context. RSBM’s gallery includes “HD Rock Bucket for 48T Excavator,” and attachment manufacturers publish footage of rock buckets and grabs. Those examples can help you refine a search, but they should not be presented as the identified video.

What an excavator uses to move rocks

The attachment determines whether the machine is digging, scooping, gripping or placing. Bobcat describes an excavator bucket as the primary digging and loading tool for soil, rock and aggregate. Caterpillar explains that a thumb adds gripping capability for irregular materials such as rocks, stumps and debris. KINSHOFER documents dedicated rock grabs for handling natural rock.

Attachment Typical task What to check before use What a video can and cannot establish
Rock or general-purpose bucket Digging, scooping and loading loose rock or aggregate; carrying material a short distance Bucket dimensions and mass, teeth or cutting edge, coupler pattern, excavator model and rated capacity It can show the bucket’s motion and material flow, but not whether the load is within the machine’s chart
Bucket with hydraulic or rigid thumb Pinching and stabilizing irregular rocks, logs or debris for controlled movement Thumb geometry, hydraulic circuit, pin locations, bucket compatibility and the attachment’s added mass It can show gripping technique; it cannot prove hydraulic pressure, clamping force or structural condition
Dedicated rock grab Picking, sorting and placing individual natural rocks, often where orientation matters Grab weight, jaw opening, carrier operating-weight range, coupler and auxiliary hydraulic requirements It can show placement precision, but not the grab’s approved capacity on another excavator

KINSHOFER states that its excavator rock-grab range covers carriers from 3 to 40 tonnes operating weight. That is a manufacturer-stated product range, not a universal rule: a particular machine still needs a compatibility check, and the excavator’s lift chart remains controlling.

How to search for the intended video

Use the few clues that might be available around the title rather than searching the title alone. Add the attachment, machine size, job type or platform shown in the listing. These searches are discovery techniques, not evidence that a result is the intended clip.

  1. Start with exact-phrase searches. Put “Excavator Moving Rocks Video” in quotation marks, then try the same phrase without quotes. Record the uploader, date and platform for each plausible result.
  2. Add attachment terms. Try combinations such as “rock bucket,” “excavator thumb,” “rock grab,” “boulder placement” and “natural rock.” A result showing a grab is a different equipment category from a bucket demonstration.
  3. Add machine-size clues. If the thumbnail or description gives a size, include it. “48T excavator,” for example, can locate the RSBM gallery listing, but it does not authenticate that listing as the requested clip.
  4. Add the worksite or action. Terms such as “quarry loading,” “landscape boulder,” “slope placement,” “river rock” or “aggregate loading” can separate otherwise similar footage.
  5. Verify the original page. Check whether the page identifies the operator, carrier model, attachment model, location and date. Reposted clips often remove the caption that would distinguish a product demonstration from a jobsite.
  6. Compare multiple frames. Look for the same attachment shape, cab layout, counterweight, paint scheme and surrounding site. A matching thumbnail alone is not enough to establish identity.

If you need to cite or share a clip, preserve its original URL, uploader and publication date. Do not describe an attachment or operating method that the page does not identify.

How the rock-moving process works

Bucket loading and short travel

With a suitable bucket, the operator positions the machine to fill the bucket without forcing the teeth into material the machine is not designed to break. The boom and arm then bring the load toward the machine, and the bucket is curled to retain it. For a short relocation, the operator keeps the load low and avoids unnecessary slewing. The exact sequence, permissible travel condition and load height are governed by the excavator’s manual and lift chart.

Gripping a single irregular rock

A thumb or rock grab changes the task from scooping to clamping. The operator must approach so the attachment can seat the stone, close or curl around a stable area, and keep the center of gravity close to the machine. Irregular rocks can roll, rotate or shed smaller pieces, so apparent jaw contact in a video does not prove that the grip is secure.

Placing rather than carrying

Placement requires control at the final position as well as during the approach. The operator should avoid swinging a suspended rock over people, vehicles or fragile structures and should release only when the receiving surface can support it. A clip that ends as the rock is lowered does not show whether the final position was stable.

Capacity: why a video cannot tell you whether a load is safe

Bobcat’s lifting guidance identifies two limiting factors: hydraulic capacity and tipping capacity. It warns, “Do not attempt to exceed rated lift capacity. Excessive loads can cause tipping or loss of control of the excavator.” Capacity changes with the load’s position, so a machine may lift a given rock close to the house and fail to lift it safely at a longer reach or over the side.

Before any real lift, use the lift chart for the exact excavator configuration. Confirm the operating weight, track or undercarriage condition, attachment mass, coupler, boom and arm combination, and whether the chart applies over the front, side or a specified radius. Include the rock, bucket or grab, thumb, quick coupler and any material retained in the attachment when determining the lifted mass. If the rock’s weight is unknown, estimate it conservatively using an approved site method or obtain a measured weight; do not infer it from screen size.

Check Why it changes the result
Load radius and position Lift capacity varies as the load moves farther from the machine and when it is positioned over the side rather than in the chart’s strongest zone.
Attachment and coupler mass That weight consumes part of the available lift capacity before the rock is added.
Hydraulic configuration A thumb or grab may require an auxiliary circuit and can have limits different from a standard bucket.
Ground and machine level Soft, sloped or uneven ground can reduce stability even when a nominal chart value appears adequate.
Suspended-load control Sudden swing, braking or a shifting rock can create dynamic forces not represented by a still photograph.

Pick-and-carry precautions shown in manufacturer guidance

Bobcat advises aligning the boom with the direction of travel, turning only when necessary, moving at low speed with a wide turning radius, and using the shortest lifting distance possible. These are general precautions; the excavator’s own manual, lift chart, site plan and local regulations take precedence.

  1. Prepare the route. Remove loose rocks and obstructions, check the surface for soft spots and keep pedestrians out of the travel path.
  2. Set the machine. Work on level ground where practicable and position the upperstructure and boom for the intended direction of travel.
  3. Secure the attachment. Verify that the bucket, thumb or grab is correctly locked to the coupler and that hydraulic hoses and pins are in serviceable condition.
  4. Confirm the load. Use the correct lift-chart column for radius and position, and account for the complete attachment assembly.
  5. Lift only as high as needed. Keep the rock close and low enough to preserve stability and visibility while maintaining clearance from the ground.
  6. Travel slowly. Avoid abrupt acceleration, braking and turning. If the route requires a change of direction, use a broad radius and reassess stability.
  7. Place and release deliberately. Set the rock on a prepared surface, make sure it is stable, then open the bucket, thumb or grab without exposing people or equipment to a roll.

Breaking rock is a different operation

SANY’s general safe-operating guidance warns against trying to crush rocks with bucket teeth. Where rock must be reduced before digging, it advises using breaking equipment first. The same guidance calls for a level machine and a work area clear of loose rocks and pedestrians.

This distinction helps when interpreting footage. A bucket that curls around a fractured pile may be loading previously broken material; it is not evidence that the same bucket should be used as a breaker. Look for a separate hydraulic breaker or other purpose-built tool, and do not assume that a machine shown handling small fragments is approved to break intact stone.

How to evaluate an excavator rock-moving video

Identify the machine and attachment

  • Read the caption for the excavator model, operating weight and attachment model.
  • Look for a quick-coupler interface, auxiliary hoses, thumb linkage or grab jaws.
  • Check whether the attachment’s stated carrier range includes the machine shown. A range such as 3 to 40 tonnes is not an approval for every carrier inside that range.

Assess the work area

  • Is the machine level, and is the ground visibly firm enough for the task?
  • Are loose rocks, workers, vehicles and bystanders outside the swing and travel zones?
  • Does the video show a controlled demonstration or a real production site with changing conditions?

Assess the movement

  • Is the boom aligned with travel, and is the load kept close and low?
  • Does the operator turn slowly and only when necessary?
  • Does the rock remain stable in the bucket or jaws, or does it roll and shift?

These observations can describe what is visible. They cannot establish the machine’s rated capacity, the rock’s weight, hidden ground conditions, inspection status or compliance with local rules.

Attachment-selection checklist before buying or hiring

If a video inspires you to obtain a rock-handling attachment, treat compatibility as a specification exercise rather than a visual match.

  • Carrier: record the exact excavator model, operating weight and boom/arm configuration.
  • Interface: identify the coupler type, pin dimensions and whether direct pin-on mounting is required.
  • Hydraulics: confirm auxiliary circuit flow, pressure, hose routing and control compatibility for a hydraulic thumb or grab.
  • Dimensions: compare attachment width, jaw opening or bucket capacity with the material and access limits of the site.
  • Mass: include the attachment and coupler in the excavator’s lift calculation.
  • Service information: obtain the manufacturer’s operating instructions, inspection points and stated limitations.
  • Local requirements: check site rules, lifting regulations, exclusion zones and any required operator qualification.

Bobcat lists multiple bucket mounting and coupler systems for particular models and work. That is why a bucket or grab that fits one excavator should not be assumed to fit another simply because both are described as “mid-size” or “40-tonne class.”

What the footage can teach—and what it cannot

A clear video can demonstrate attachment geometry, the broad difference between scooping and gripping, and the importance of keeping a load close during controlled movement. It can also help you recognize whether a listing shows a conventional bucket, a thumb or a dedicated grab.

It cannot verify the operator’s certification, the machine’s inspection history, the actual rock mass, hydraulic pressure, tipping margin, ground bearing capacity or compliance with a particular jurisdiction’s rules. Editing may omit the approach, a warning, a failed attempt or the final placement. Treat video as visual reference, not as a method statement or a substitute for the operator manual and lift chart.

A practical way to describe a clip accurately

When sharing an identified video, state only details visible on the original page: the uploader, date, machine and attachment if named, the apparent task, and the limits of what is shown. A careful caption might say that the footage shows an excavator using a rock bucket to load broken material, while noting that the clip does not provide a lift-chart rating or prove safe capacity. Avoid assigning a model, weight or jobsite location from paint, proportions or thumbnail appearance alone.
