The city’s published Housing Authority information reports that the HCV and PBV waiting lists are currently closed. A closed list means you should not submit an unsolicited form or pay anyone who promises to add you. Wait for an official opening announcement and follow only the submission method stated there.
If you already applied, the authority directs applicants to check their status through Waitlist Check or by telephone at 1-888-442-0374. The same information tells applicants to report changes to their waitlist application. Keep your mailing address, telephone number, email address and household information current so that a notice does not go unanswered.
The March 2026 opening was a past window, not a current application opportunity
A City of Fairfield announcement stated that HCV and PBV applications were accepted from 9:00 a.m. on March 4, 2026, through 5:00 p.m. on March 6, 2026. The city reserved the right to close earlier if it reached the application limit. Applications were free, one application was allowed per household and up to 2,500 applicants were to be placed on the HCV list through computerized random selection after the period ended.

That three-day window has passed. Do not treat its dates, limits or random-selection process as proof that the list is open now. Use the current Housing Authority page for the next notice; a later opening could change the dates, list limits, eligible programs or selection rules.

How to prepare for the next California opening
- Monitor the official Housing Authority announcement. Confirm that the notice names Fairfield, California, identifies the HCV, PBV or another program, and states that applications are being accepted.

- Locate the current Judd Homestead notice. Confirm that it still names the 980 High Street property, the same application period and the same submission instructions.

These routes can both be worth monitoring if you are eligible for each location, but each requires a separate application and separate follow-up. An application to one does not transfer to the other.
6. Avoid common application mistakes
Applying in the wrong Fairfield
Put the state in every note, calendar entry and conversation. A phone number for a Connecticut property cannot answer questions about a California voucher list, and the California Waitlist Check system cannot place you on a Connecticut property list.
Using an expired opening notice

Submitting duplicates
The California notice allowed one application per household. Duplicate submissions can create confusion or be rejected under the notice’s rules. For Connecticut, follow the property’s instructions rather than mailing multiple copies to improve your odds.
Missing a contact update
Waitlist processes can last a long time. Update the California Housing Authority when your contact or household information changes, and keep proof of the update. For the Connecticut property, retain your mailed form and use the listed telephone number to ask how applicants will be contacted.
Sending documents too soon
