How to Find ACHD Road-Construction Updates and Detours Near You

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a current road project or detour in Ada County, Idaho, begin with the Ada County Highway District (ACHD) Roadwork in the Area page and open its RITA map. Search or zoom to your route, then check ACHD’s Current Closures & Lane Restrictions list immediately before departure. Use Local Event Closures & Lane Restrictions for event-related traffic, the weekly ACHD Construction Project Status report for broader progress, and the specific project page for dated notices.

These sources serve different purposes and update at different rates. RITA shows current projects across Ada County, including work led by agencies other than ACHD; the daily lists describe immediate restrictions; and project schedules are estimates that can change. Recheck the live sources close to travel time rather than relying on an old screenshot, calendar entry or planning map.

Start with ACHD’s Roadwork in the Area page

ACHD’s Roadwork in the Area page is the best starting point when you know a neighborhood, street or destination but do not yet know which project may affect it. The page links to RITA, ACHD’s area-wide roadwork map, and to separate closure, event and project-status resources.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Open RITA and locate your route

  1. Open the Roadwork in the Area page and select the RITA map.
  2. Enter a street, intersection or neighborhood in the map’s search control, or zoom and pan until the route is visible.
  3. Select the project marker or map feature near your trip. Read the project name, location, work description, dates and any linked information shown for that item.
  4. Write down the project name and the road segment affected. Those details make it easier to find a matching closure notice or dedicated project page.

RITA is intended to show current road projects throughout Ada County. ACHD says it includes both ACHD and non-ACHD work, so a marker on the map does not by itself establish that ACHD owns or controls the job. If the map identifies another agency, utility, city or developer as the project owner, use the linked owner information for the authoritative details about that work.

What RITA can—and cannot—answer

  • Useful for: discovering projects near an unfamiliar route, seeing the geographic extent of work and finding a project name to investigate further.
  • Not sufficient by itself for: confirming that a lane is open at a particular hour, identifying a temporary event closure or proving that a projected completion date is still current.
  • Important qualification: the map combines ACHD and non-ACHD projects. Responsibility, notice practices and update timing can differ by project owner.

ACHD lists RITA and related map resources in its maps catalogue. Use that catalogue when you need additional planning maps, but return to the live roadwork and closure pages for a same-day travel decision.

Choose the source that matches your question

ACHD separates information by urgency, geographic scope and purpose. The table below shows where to look first.

Resource Best question it answers Scope ACHD’s stated update cadence or role
RITA map on Roadwork in the Area What projects are near this street or destination? Countywide; includes ACHD and non-ACHD work Live/current map resource; use it to discover projects, then verify impacts
Current Closures & Lane Restrictions on the Roadwork in the Area page Is a road, lane or movement restricted now? Immediate travel impacts in the ACHD information area ACHD labels this list as updated daily
Local Event Closures & Lane Restrictions Will a parade, race, festival or other local event affect the route? Event-related restrictions Separate event resource; check when an event overlaps your trip
ACHD Construction Project Status How is a project progressing overall? Broader construction-project status ACHD labels this report as updated weekly
Dedicated ACHD project page What are the latest dated notices for one known project? Specific project corridor Project-specific updates; schedules may change
Public Info and Alerts signup How can I receive continuing ACHD notices? ACHD projects, programs and services Subscription channel rather than a road-by-road live map
Five Year Plan map Which projects are proposed for future years? Long-range planning Planning context, not a current-closure feed

For a trip today, prioritize the daily closure list and event list after checking RITA. For a meeting about a project months away, add the weekly status report and the project page. For long-range planning, consult the Five Year Plan without treating a proposed construction year as proof that work is active.

Check Current Closures & Lane Restrictions before leaving

After locating a project in RITA, open the Current Closures & Lane Restrictions resource linked from ACHD’s Roadwork in the Area page. ACHD labels it as updated daily, making it the most relevant official source for a day-of routing decision.

Read a closure notice completely

  1. Match the street name and limits in the notice to your planned route, not just to the project’s general neighborhood.
  2. Identify the impact type: full closure, single-lane restriction, turn restriction, shoulder work, reduced access or another condition.
  3. Check the effective dates and any time-of-day language. A restriction that applies overnight or during a work shift may not apply during your departure time.
  4. Look for listed detour directions, alternate access points and exceptions for residents, businesses, transit or emergency vehicles.
  5. Check again shortly before travel. Daily publication does not mean a notice remains unchanged after you first read it.

If the closure list and map appear to describe different conditions, treat the more immediate, route-specific notice as the better starting point and open the linked project information. When uncertainty remains, use the project owner’s contact or update channel rather than assuming that a map symbol confirms an open lane.

Check event closures separately

ACHD presents Local Event Closures & Lane Restrictions as a separate resource. Review it whenever your trip overlaps a scheduled local event, even if RITA shows no construction project on the route. Event controls can affect streets that are otherwise open and can change access to parking, intersections or business driveways. Include the event name, date and affected street limits in your trip notes so you can distinguish an event restriction from construction.

Use the weekly ACHD Construction Project Status report for progress

The ACHD Construction Project Status report is labeled as updated weekly. It is useful when you need the broader state of a project—such as whether work is in an early, active or later phase—rather than only the next closure on your commute.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When the weekly report helps

  • You are coordinating deliveries, school travel or a recurring commute over several weeks.
  • You need context for why a restriction may move from one block to another.
  • You are comparing several projects along a corridor and need a consistent status view.
  • You are preparing a meeting or trip plan far enough ahead that a daily closure list may not yet contain the relevant notice.

Use the weekly report as context, not as a guarantee that conditions will remain unchanged until your trip. Pair it with the daily closure list whenever the departure date is near. A project can advance, pause or shift work zones between weekly updates.

Follow the dedicated page for a known project

Once you have a project name, search for its ACHD project page and read the dated updates. A dedicated page can explain the corridor limits, construction phases, public meetings and links to current notices in a way a countywide map cannot.

Use dated updates to establish what changed

  1. Confirm that the page’s project name and road limits match your route.
  2. Read the newest dated update first, then review earlier entries if the current phase is unclear.
  3. Separate a projected milestone—such as an expected completion—from a confirmed closure currently listed in the daily resource.
  4. Check whether the update identifies another agency or contractor as responsible for a portion of the work.

The ACHD Engage page for Ustick Road, Ten Mile Road to Linder Road demonstrates this dated-update format; one update is dated October 9. ACHD states on that project page, Construction schedules may change. Treat every future date as an estimate unless a newer notice confirms the condition, and revisit the page close to the day you travel.

Subscribe to ACHD notices for continuing projects

For recurring exposure to a corridor, use the updates subscription link on Public Info and Alerts. ACHD describes this channel as a way to sign up for updates about its projects, programs and services.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Set up a useful subscription routine

  1. Open Public Info and Alerts and select the updates signup link.
  2. Choose the topics or project information relevant to your work, home, school or regular commute, when the form offers those choices.
  3. Use an address or inbox you check before travel; a rarely monitored account defeats the purpose of a time-sensitive notice.
  4. Keep the project page and daily closure page bookmarked even after subscribing. A subscription is a notification channel, not a replacement for checking the live route.

Do not assume that an alert arrives before every lane change or that delivery timing is identical for all projects. The official pages establish the signup option, but they do not promise a particular alert lead time or completeness for every non-ACHD project.

Use the Five Year Plan for future planning—not today’s detours

ACHD’s maps catalogue includes planning resources such as the Five Year Plan. The adopted 2026–2030 Five Year Plan describes 266 projects with a total budget of $1.2 billion. Those figures describe the adopted five-year program reported on that plan page in 2026; they are not a count of current closures or a measure of detour accuracy.

Keep planning and live operations separate

  • A proposed construction year indicates planned timing, not that crews are currently occupying the road.
  • A project appearing on a planning map does not establish a present lane restriction.
  • Use RITA and the daily closure list to decide how to drive now.
  • Use the Five Year Plan to anticipate future work, coordinate a long-term project or understand the pipeline of proposed improvements.

If a future project matters to a property, business route or event, record its name and corridor, then monitor the dedicated page as design and construction information becomes available.

Build a reliable detour-check routine

A short, repeatable process prevents the most common mistake: relying on a project page or map that was accurate when you saved it but not when you travel.

For a trip today

  1. Open RITA from Roadwork in the Area and search the entire route, including the final approach to your destination.
  2. Open Current Closures & Lane Restrictions and compare every listed street limit with your route.
  3. Open Local Event Closures & Lane Restrictions if an event could overlap the trip.
  4. Read any linked project page for the newest dated note and identify the project owner.
  5. Choose an alternate route that avoids the affected segment, then allow extra time for traffic entering the detour.
  6. Recheck shortly before departure and again if the trip is delayed long enough for conditions to change.

For a trip next week or later

  1. Use the weekly Construction Project Status report and the project page to understand the likely phase.
  2. Subscribe through Public Info and Alerts if the corridor will affect repeated trips.
  3. Set a reminder to run the daily closure check on the travel date.
  4. Do not publish or share a projected completion date as a promise; label it as an estimate.

For a long-term move, event or delivery plan

  1. Start with the Five Year Plan and maps catalogue to identify proposed projects.
  2. Find a dedicated project page for each corridor that could affect access.
  3. As the date approaches, switch to RITA, the daily closure list and the event-closure list.
  4. Confirm access with the responsible project owner when the map identifies non-ACHD work.

How to handle non-ACHD work on the map

RITA’s countywide view intentionally includes projects that are not managed by ACHD. This is helpful for a driver because the road impact can matter regardless of ownership, but it changes where authoritative details come from.

Identify the responsible owner

  • Read the project title, description and linked information in the map feature.
  • Look for the agency, municipality, utility or developer named as the project owner.
  • Open the owner’s linked project information for closure times, contact details and detour instructions.
  • Use ACHD’s daily list as a cross-check, not as proof that every non-ACHD project is represented with the same level of detail.

Do not infer that an ACHD map marker means ACHD controls the work zone, sets the schedule or can answer every access question. Ownership determines which organization can confirm a change.

Troubleshoot conflicting or missing information

The map shows a project, but no closure appears

The project may be active without a full closure, may be in a phase that does not restrict your movement, or may be managed by another entity. Read the project details, check the daily list and follow the named owner’s information. Plan for possible slowdowns without claiming that a closure exists.

A closure list and a project page show different dates

Use the newest dated notice and the route-specific daily information for immediate travel. Keep the project page’s broader schedule as context, and treat future milestones as changeable. If the discrepancy affects a high-stakes delivery or event, contact the responsible owner before dispatching.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A planned detour is blocked too

Run the same RITA and daily-list search on the alternate corridor. Check the event list as well, since an event restriction can overlap a construction detour. Build a second alternate rather than assuming that a navigation app has incorporated every temporary control.

The information is too old for your departure

Refresh the Roadwork in the Area page, reopen the daily closure resource and check the project’s newest dated update. Avoid relying on a saved image, an old social post or a planning-year label. ACHD’s own project wording warns that construction schedules may change.

Examples of choosing the right ACHD source

Commuting across Ada County this morning

Use RITA to scan the full corridor, then read Current Closures & Lane Restrictions. If a local festival, race or parade is scheduled, add the event-closure list. The weekly status report is optional context unless the commute will continue for many days.

Checking whether a road project will affect next month’s delivery

Find the named project in RITA, read the dedicated page’s dated updates and consult the weekly status report. Subscribe through Public Info and Alerts, then repeat the daily check on the delivery date. Confirm the owner when the project is not ACHD-managed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Evaluating a neighborhood for a future move

Use the maps catalogue and Five Year Plan to understand proposed projects, but do not describe them as current detours. Save the corridor names, monitor dedicated pages and switch to RITA and daily closures when construction approaches.

What ACHD’s sources do not guarantee

  • They do not guarantee that every map item has identical update timing or that every non-ACHD project is managed through ACHD channels.
  • They do not guarantee a fixed completion date; project schedules can change.
  • They do not provide a published statistic for the number of current detours, alert delivery speed or detour accuracy.
  • A weekly status entry cannot replace a same-day closure check.
  • A Five Year Plan project count or budget cannot be used as a live-roadwork statistic.

These limits are reasons to combine sources, not reasons to ignore them. The strongest route decision uses the map to discover, the daily list to verify, the event list to catch non-construction impacts, the project page to understand context and the owner’s channel to resolve responsibility.

Quick checklist before you drive

  • Have you opened RITA and searched every major segment of the route?
  • Have you read Current Closures & Lane Restrictions on the day of travel?
  • Could a local event affect the route, and did you check the separate event list?
  • Did you open the newest dated update for any project that matters?
  • Is the project ACHD-managed, or do you need the identified owner’s information?
  • Are you treating projected dates as estimates rather than guarantees?
  • If the trip is recurring, have you subscribed to Public Info and Alerts?
  • Did you recheck close to departure after allowing for schedule changes?
