The recommended way to factory-reset a HomePod mini is Home app → HomePod mini → Settings → Reset HomePod → Remove Accessory. If the Home app cannot reset it, use the manual button sequence. A Mac or Windows PC can restore it as a last resort.
A reset removes the HomePod mini’s configuration and returns it to setup state. You will need to set it up again afterward.

Before resetting your HomePod mini
First decide whether you need a restart or a complete reset:
- Restart: Reboots the speaker without removing its configuration.
- Factory reset: Removes the HomePod mini from the Home configuration and requires setup again.
- Restore: Uses a computer to reset the speaker and update it to the latest available software.
If the HomePod mini is only temporarily unresponsive, try a restart first. In the Home app, go to HomePod → Settings → Reset HomePod → Restart HomePod. If that option is unavailable, unplug the speaker, reconnect it, and try again. Apple’s troubleshooting guidance is available in its article on HomePod and HomePod mini responsiveness problems.

During an app-initiated reset, a white spinning light should appear and then disappear. A chime followed by a white pulsing light indicates that the reset is complete and the HomePod mini is ready for setup.

To set it up again, unlock an iPhone and hold it near the HomePod mini. Follow the on-screen instructions in the Home app.
If you are selling or giving away the speaker, wait until it reaches this setup state before handing it over. The new owner should then be able to begin setup independently.
If your HomePod mini will not reset
- If the speaker is visible in the Home app, try Restart HomePod first.
- Unplug it, wait, and reconnect it.
- Repeat the manual reset precisely, including both 10-second waits and the three-beep release point.
- Try the computer restore procedure.
- If the computer does not detect it, check the USB-C connection, use the supplied cable, update Finder, Apple Devices, or iTunes, and reconnect the HomePod mini. Also confirm that the computer recognizes other USB devices and that the speaker is receiving power.
Apple does not provide one universal detection fix for every computer connection failure. If the HomePod mini still cannot be reset or detected, contact Apple Support or arrange service. A reset may resolve configuration or software problems, but it will not necessarily fix persistent hardware, network, or account-related issues.
What a factory reset does—and does not do
The reset removes the HomePod mini’s configuration and accessory association from the Home setup, returning the speaker to an unconfigured state. It does not mean that data is erased from your iPhone, iCloud account, Apple Music account, or other Apple devices. Apple’s documented workflow is to reset the speaker and remove the accessory from the Home app; no separate sign-out step is included in the verified instructions.
