The height of each row must be calculated from the venue’s sightline target, focal point, row spacing, seating geometry, and applicable accessibility requirements. The useful starting point is a sightline study—not a standard dimension copied from another stadium.
What does “riser height” mean in stadium seating?
A row riser is the vertical change in elevation between adjacent seating rows. It is one part of a seating-bowl profile, alongside the tread (the horizontal depth or spacing between rows), seat position, and the height and location of the viewing target.
Riser height is not the same as a C-value. FIFA defines the C-value as the vertical clearance between a spectator’s eye and the point where the sightline from the spectator behind passes over or through the head in front. It measures a sightline relationship; it is not a prescribed row-to-row rise.
Why there is no universal ideal height
A suitable riser depends on the geometry of the specific bowl. A designer needs to know the target point—such as the near touchline or goal line—its height, the distance from each row, the row spacing, assumed eye and head positions, and any existing structural constraints. Rails, boards, occupants, and other obstructions also affect the view.

- User for ALL Posture and Alignment Therapy Methods and Exercises, including Posture Therapy, Yoga, Pilates.
- The Posture Therapy Foam Riser 2" Comes with a CARRY EASY/PRACTICAL HANDLE and REMOVABLE ZIPPER COVER. It's 14" x 2" x 24" in dimensions, the EXACT size of the Posture Therapy Large Foam and Inflatable Block. Just place on top if you are 5’2” feet TALL or less or if you are 5’8” - 6’0” feet TALL. You will maintain your hips and knees at a 90 degree angle during a variation of exercises.
- Very PRACTICAL to use as a softer surface when you are doing EXERCISES in a SITTING, KNEELING or HANDS AND KNEES position, for YOGA, PILATES or POSTURE THERAPY.
- The Foam Riser 2" inch is a NEW DESIGN, a Lifting Cushion you can place under your COMPUTER or MONITOR as a Riser, this way you will SIT TALLER in a better and more UPRIGHT POSITION.
- It's wonderful for GARDENING as a kneeling support. Very COMFORTABLE for the knees. The outside material is convenient and easy to clean with soap and water.
FIFA’s stadium bowl guidance calls for calculating the riser height of each row to achieve the selected C-value. It describes a C-value of 120 mm as optimal and 60 mm as a minimum recommended value. Those figures refer to sightline clearance, not to the height of every stadium seating riser.
Because the relevant geometry changes across a seating bowl, one typical dimension cannot safely be copied as a design answer. The project team should establish a target sightline and calculate the profile row by row.

- 2.8" THICK PADDED STADIUM SEATS FOR BLEACHERS — Game-day comfort starts here. A 2.8" high-density foam cushion plus a tall backrest (16.5" on Regular, 18.5" on Large) lift you off cold, hard aluminum benches and deliver real back support through extra innings.
- DOUBLE-LOCK ANTI-TIP STABILITY — Built to stay put when the crowd jumps. Two heavy-duty metal hooks plus non-slip rubber strips grip the bleacher from top and bottom, locking the chair in place so it won't slide or tip backward. Sturdy steel frame supports up to 250 lbs.
- FITS MOST STADIUM BENCHES — Sized to line up with standard bleachers with no awkward overhang — 17"W × 12"D (Regular) or 18.5"W × 14"D (Large). The reinforced steel frame sits flush on wood or metal benches, maximizing your seat space at any venue.
- PORTABLE FOLDING SEAT — At just 6.6 lbs (Regular) or 8 lbs (Large) it folds flat and carries hands-free via the adjustable padded shoulder strap or built-in handle. Perfect for football, baseball, soccer, concerts, camping, and boating.
- BUILT-IN CUP HOLDER & ZIPPER POCKET — A flexible mesh cup holder keeps your drink handy while the zippered front pocket secures your phone, keys, and wallet. Convenient game-day storage for parents, seniors, and fans alike.
How to choose a riser height for a project
- Set the viewing target. Identify the point spectators need to see, such as the near side of the playing area, and specify its height and location.
- Define the audience condition. Decide whether the view must work for a seated audience, a standing audience, or both. Include the expected standing condition in the sightline design where it applies.
- Document the seating geometry. Provide row spacing or tread, seat locations, eye and head assumptions, tier rake, and existing structural limits.
- Set the sightline target and calculate the bowl profile. The design team should calculate the required elevation for each row against the chosen C-value and confirm that sightlines clear occupants and fixed obstructions.
- Check accessibility, circulation, and construction. Review wheelchair-space locations and views, access routes, companion seating, egress, structure, maintenance, and whether the seating is permanent or temporary.
A project-specific sightline study by the architect or seating engineer is the appropriate way to turn those inputs into riser dimensions. The title alone—or a product’s standard rise—does not provide enough information to complete that calculation.
How audience behavior affects sightlines
A seating profile designed only for a seated crowd may not provide the same views when spectators stand. The U.S. Access Board’s 2010 ADA Standards, Section 802, address wheelchair-space sightlines for seated audiences and, when spectators are expected to stand, sightlines over or between standing spectators. The relevant viewing condition should therefore be explicit in the design brief.

Accessible seating is also a planning issue, not just a platform-height decision. The ADA provisions address integration, dispersion, access, and companion seating. In row seating, the companion-seat floor is at the same elevation as the wheelchair-space floor. Designers should verify the applicable current requirements for the venue and governing jurisdiction; the cited U.S. standards are not a substitute for local building, fire, life-safety, or stadium rules.

A wheelchair super riser is an increased-height viewing position intended to help wheelchair users see when people in front may be standing. It is a separate accessibility intervention, not the standard rise between every seating row.

UEFA’s 2024 Accessibility Guidelines recommend an increased-height riser of 120 cm for this purpose. UEFA also cautions that sightline calculations are complex and venue-specific, and that a lower design may be proposed when the designer demonstrates an acceptable C-value. This is sports accessibility guidance, not a universal legal minimum or a replacement for the requirements that govern a particular venue.
How product dimensions fit into the decision
Manufacturer specifications can describe a particular bleacher or grandstand configuration, but they do not establish a design standard or prove that an installation meets accessibility requirements. For example, GT Grandstands lists one Elevated Series configuration with an elevation of 30 inches above finished grade and a standard 8-inch row rise with a 24-inch tread. Those are product specifications for that configuration, not a universal stadium-bowl prescription.

Other purpose-built options include National Recreation Systems’ ADA Series bleachers and Sightline Commercial Solutions’ Grandspan fixed riser system. A seating engineer or architect should review any proposed system against the full project geometry, access needs, structural design, and applicable rules. A manufacturer’s product description alone cannot establish that a specific installation is compliant.
