Then check that it fits your counter, offers the temperatures you use, and has filters you can replace and maintain. The models below are examples of documented configurations, not tested or ranked winners.
Choose the water supply that fits your space
Countertop dispensers generally draw water in one of two ways: a connection to a nearby water line or a refillable tank. A plumbed unit avoids routine tank refills but requires a compatible connection. A tank model can suit a space without practical plumbing access or a dispenser that needs to move between locations, but you must refill it.

Measure the counter and the space under the spout
Measure the countertop area where the unit will sit, including any clearance needed for nearby cabinets or a wall. Also measure the vertical space beneath the spout with your usual glass, bottle, or carafe in place. Footprint alone does not tell you whether the dispenser will be practical to use.

Match temperature options and controls to daily use
Dispenser outputs differ. Some documented examples provide hot and cold water; others add a cool setting. Decide which temperatures people in your home or office actually use, and check how the chosen model dispenses them. Controls and safety features also vary.

Check the filter claim, not just the word “certified”
Filtration claims apply to the specific filter and the documented scope of its certification; they are not a blanket promise that a dispenser removes every contaminant. Before relying on a reduction claim, identify the exact filter model, the standard involved, and the contaminants covered in an authoritative certification record. Manufacturer wording alone does not establish every contaminant-specific reduction.
Avalon identifies A4FILTER and A5FILTER as the dual-filtration models used with the A8, A12, and A13CT examples described above; its A8 page also calls the filters NSF-certified. Account for filter replacement and cleaning
Before buying, find the replacement filter model and confirm that compatible replacements are available. Check their current price and the manufacturer’s instructions for replacement intervals and cleaning; ongoing costs and care requirements are specific to the model and may change. A dispenser that is convenient to install can still be inconvenient to own if its filters are difficult to source or its care routine does not suit your setting.

The A8, A12, and A13CT illustrate differences in listed temperatures and features; they are not comparative test winners.
