The right 3-point hitch snow blower is the one that fits your tractor’s PTO horsepower, hitch and PTO setup—and suits how you want to clear snow. There is no single best width or model for every tractor. Start with the manufacturer’s compatibility information, then compare working width and whether a conventional rear blower’s reverse operation works for you.
What a 3-point hitch snow blower is—and how it operates
A rear 3-point hitch snow blower mounts to the tractor’s three-point hitch and, in the manufacturer examples below, runs from the tractor PTO rather than a separate engine. A conventional rear blower is used while driving the tractor in reverse, so the operator faces away from the direction of travel during clearing. John Deere distinguishes this arrangement from an inverted 3-point blower, which allows forward travel, and from a front-mounted blower, which uses a different mounting arrangement. John Deere’s snow-removal equipment overview describes these configurations.

Nortrac 3-Pt. Snow Blower, 50-54 in. W Intake, 16-35 HP | Buy on Amazon |
For a compact-tractor example, Bobcat describes its snow blower as PTO-driven and attached to a Category 1 three-point hitch. It advises operators to consult the tractor owner’s manual and determine whether the tractor has independent or live PTO. Bobcat’s compact-tractor snow blower specifications provide those details.
Compare the tractor and blower before choosing a width
Width is not a standalone measure of suitability. A wider blower may demand a different PTO horsepower range or hitch category, and the tractor must be compatible with the exact implement. The following are manufacturer-listed examples, not independent performance comparisons.
#1 Best Overall
- 50 TO 54 IN. CLEARING WIDTH - FITS 16 TO 35 HP TRACTORS: The 50 in. blower with bolt-on 4 in. wing kit clears a 50-54 in. wide path. Category 1, 3-pt. hitch fits compact tractors from 16 to 35 HP.
- 14 IN. SHEAR BOLT AUGER AND 20 IN. IMPELLER: Chain and sprocket drive powers the shear bolt-protected auger and 20 in. impeller for consistent 2-stage snow clearing in heavy accumulations.
- OPTIONAL HYDRAULIC CHUTE ROTATION KIT AVAILABLE: Add the optional Nortrac Hydraulic Chute Rotation Kit (sold separately) for motor-powered chute rotation without leaving the tractor seat.
- THROWS SNOW UP TO 20 FT.: The 20 in. impeller delivers up to 20 ft. throwing distance to keep snow clear of the area being plowed with each pass.
- Adjustable chute deflector allows you to guide snow right where you want it

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Use this fitment checklist before buying
- Confirm PTO horsepower. Compare your tractor’s PTO horsepower—not an assumed engine-power figure—with the implement’s stated range. Bobcat specifically advises choosing a model appropriate to PTO horsepower; John Deere publishes ranges for its listed models.
- Match the hitch category and connection. Check the category and connection requirements for both tractor and blower. A matching category by itself does not establish full compatibility.
- Verify PTO speed, connection and operation. Consult the tractor and implement manuals for the required PTO speed and connection, and establish whether the tractor’s PTO arrangement is suitable. Bobcat calls out independent versus live PTO as a point to understand from the tractor manual.
- Check driveline length and clearance. Confirm that the driveline is appropriate for the tractor-implement combination and that it has adequate clearance through the hitch’s working range. Use the manufacturers’ specifications for the exact equipment.
- Look up the exact tractor model. Check the implement manufacturer’s compatibility list or confirm fitment with the manufacturer or dealer. Bobcat provides snowblower attachment and implement information; do not treat a general product listing as confirmation for every tractor.
- Decide whether reverse operation suits your work. A conventional rear unit requires reversing while clearing. If forward travel is important, compare an inverted 3-point design or a front-mounted blower; these are different operating and mounting configurations.
- Compare controls and service support. Check how chute adjustment and other operator controls are handled, and whether the parts you may need are available for the exact model. Specifications and support can vary by product.
Consider the operating layout, not just the attachment
With a conventional rear blower, the tractor travels backward during clearing. That setup may be a poor match if the operator needs to face the direction of travel or if reversing is impractical for the site. An inverted blower retains a 3-point hitch attachment but is designed for forward travel; a front-mounted blower is another option, with a different mounting arrangement. Compare the intended direction of travel and mounting system in John Deere’s configuration overview before narrowing the choice to a model.
Replacement shear bolts must match the blower
Bobcat identifies a shear bolt through the input shaft as protection for the gearbox and driveline. Keep replacement bolts matched to the specific blower make and model: the cited Bobcat specifications do not establish a universal bolt size or replacement specification. Use the implement manual or exact model parts information rather than selecting a bolt by appearance.
