The reliable way to check a Ryobi recall
There is not one universal checker that covers every Ryobi product. The manufacturer’s recall index contains separate notices, and each notice can define its own models, serial-number ranges, product description, countries, sales period and remedy. A model that looks similar to a recalled product is not enough to establish that your item is included.

Use the identifiers printed on the product, not the color, battery capacity, packaging or a photograph found online. The decision is made by matching your item to the criteria in the applicable notice. Keep the notice open while you read the label so you can check every condition in the same place.

What you need before starting
- The Ryobi tool or battery itself, or a clear photograph of its data label.
- The model number, normally printed at the top left of the product label. Ryobi says it usually begins with a letter followed by numbers and letters.
- The serial number, normally at the bottom right of the data label. Some notices require the serial number or a serial-number range; others may identify products by model alone.
- Your country or market, because the U.S. manufacturer index and U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission notices do not establish coverage in every country.
- A way to record the notice title, date and result before you contact support or arrange a remedy.
Do not remove a label, open a battery pack or operate a questionable product merely to make the number easier to read. Use a flashlight and a phone camera, and follow any stop-use warning already printed on the item.

Step-by-step: check a tool or battery
1. Open Ryobi’s official recall index
Go to Ryobi’s Recall Notices page. The index reviewed for this guide links to manufacturer notices, related CPSC releases and several product-specific checkers. It included notices for pressure washers, hedge trimmers, mowers, a blower, snow blowers, a charger, an 18V battery, a sander and radial arm saws.
Read the product names rather than assuming that every cordless tool or every 18V battery shares one recall status. Open the notice that most closely describes your item. If the product category is unclear, use the model number to search the page or contact support instead of selecting a visually similar item.
2. Locate and copy the model number
Inspect the main tool or battery label, usually starting at the top-left area. Copy the letters and numbers exactly, including a suffix. A missing letter, transposed digit or omitted suffix can turn a match into a false positive or false negative.
Write the model number in a note before entering it into a checker. If the label has several codes, do not substitute a barcode, manufacturing code, voltage marking or catalog number for the model number. The notice normally identifies the relevant field by calling it “model” or “model number.”
3. Locate the serial number
Ryobi’s contact information identifies the serial number as normally appearing at the bottom right of the data label. The exact location can differ by product, so the pressure-washer notice, for example, directs owners to the data label underneath the tool. Turn the item only as far as is safe and practical; do not energize it to inspect a label.
Copy the complete serial number, including leading zeroes and letters. If a notice gives a range, compare the whole string with the stated beginning and ending values. A model match does not override a serial-number exclusion when the notice requires both.
4. Open the product-specific notice or checker
Read the entire notice before entering information. Some pages ask you to select a model and then provide a serial-number field or result. The pressure-washer page specifically asks the owner to select a model and says the model and serial numbers are on the data label underneath the tool. Other products can use a different label location or checker design.

Use the checker exactly as instructed. If it returns an included, affected or recalled result, save a screenshot or print the result with the date. If it says the item is not included, check that you selected the correct product notice and entered every character correctly before treating the result as final.
5. Compare every inclusion condition
| Identifier or condition | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Product description | Confirm that the item is the same type, configuration and size described in the notice. |
| Model number | Match the complete model, including letters, digits and suffixes. |
| Serial number or range | Check the complete number when the notice specifies a range or asks for a serial lookup. |
| Geography | Confirm that the notice applies to your country or sales market; U.S. coverage is not automatically worldwide coverage. |
| Date or sales period | Use it as a confirmation when the notice supplies one, but do not use a date to override a model or serial mismatch. |
| Remedy wording | Follow the action stated for that notice; do not substitute a generic repair or replacement. |
The model, serial and product description are the decisive identifiers. The remedy and date can help confirm that you have the right notice, but they do not expand its inclusion criteria.
6. Follow the exact remedy
Remedies differ. A notice may direct you to stop using the product, return it, disable it, obtain a repair, or receive a replacement. Do not keep testing an item after the notice says to stop using it, and do not throw away a recalled battery or tool unless the notice gives disposal instructions.
Do not buy a replacement battery or tool before checking the official notice. An affected battery may have a specific return, replacement or handling process, and an apparently compatible substitute does not resolve the safety issue with the recalled item.

7. Contact Ryobi when the result is unclear
If the label is damaged, the checker will not accept the number, or two notices appear to overlap, contact Ryobi customer service at 1-800-525-2579. Give the representative the model and serial number exactly as printed, plus the product type and where you bought or use it. Ask which notice applies and what action is authorized.
Keep the tool or battery available while you call, but do not operate it to obtain another reading. Record the representative’s instructions, any case number and the date. If the representative directs you to a regional site or process, follow that regional instruction rather than assuming the U.S. procedure applies.
How to decide whether a result is a true match
Exact model and serial match
If the model is listed and the serial number falls within the notice’s specified range, treat the item as included. Follow the stop-use and remedy instructions immediately. Do not rely on a retailer’s statement that a similar model is safe when the manufacturer notice identifies your exact identifiers.

Model listed, serial outside the range
When a notice limits inclusion by serial number, a listed model by itself is not sufficient. Re-enter the serial number carefully and verify that the range uses the same letter and number format as your label. If the result remains uncertain, ask Ryobi to confirm it using the complete label information.
Model not listed but appearance is similar
A similar housing, color, voltage or attachment does not establish inclusion. Check the index for a separate notice, then contact Ryobi if no notice clearly covers the item. Do not alter or disable a product based solely on a resemblance to a recalled model.
No readable identifier
Photograph the label in good light, clean only the outside surface without solvents or disassembly, and look for a second data label in the location described by the notice. If no complete model and serial number can be recovered, stop using the item until Ryobi can identify it from photographs and other information.
Recent examples show why the details matter
2025 RYOBI 40V 24-inch cordless hedge trimmers
The June 12, 2025 CPSC release identifies models RY40620VNM, RY40602VNM and RY40602BTLVNM, along with specified serial-number ranges. The release says affected owners should immediately stop using the trimmer and return it for replacement. Because the serial ranges are part of the notice, an owner must compare both the complete model and the complete serial number rather than stopping at a model-family match.
The release reports about 113,000 units in the United States and about 15,000 in Canada. It also reports 27 activation reports, including 16 reports that resulted in minor and some severe lacerations. Those figures describe the 2025 recall reported by the CPSC; they are not a count of every Ryobi trimmer or every injury involving the brand.

The CPSC reports about 217,500 mowers in the United States and about 28,400 in Canada. The company received 97 overheating reports, including five fires and two minor burn injuries. These figures apply to that mower recall and do not mean that every mower with the same voltage or general appearance is included.
The CPSC’s notice says: “Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled mower and contact TTIOPE for instructions on how to disable the recalled mower and receive a free replacement 21” walk-behind mower.” Follow the notice’s disabling instructions; do not improvise a repair or continue mowing while waiting for a response.
P108 18V 4Ah lithium-ion battery
Ryobi’s index includes a recall notice for a P108 18V 4Ah lithium-ion battery. Battery owners should open that specific notice and use its stated criteria and remedy. Do not assume that all P108 batteries, all 18V batteries or all batteries sold with a particular tool are covered. The battery’s own data label and the notice’s checker determine the result.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Checking a battery safely
Remove the battery from the tool only if it can be removed without operating a potentially recalled tool. Place it on a nonflammable surface away from heat, moisture and combustible materials while you read the label. Do not charge it, connect it to a tool, short its contacts, puncture the casing or open the pack to expose cells.
If the battery is hot, swollen, leaking, smoking or producing an unusual odor, move people away and follow local emergency or hazardous-material guidance. The recall checker cannot replace immediate safety action for a visibly damaged battery. Once the situation is stable, provide Ryobi with the model and serial information and describe the condition.
A battery recall can have a different remedy from a tool recall. The notice may require a return, replacement, collection or another handling instruction. Use only the instructions for that battery notice, and retain the battery until the responsible company tells you how and where to transfer it.

What to do after reporting an affected item
- Stop using the item for every task covered by the notice, including testing it to see whether the reported problem occurs.
- Disconnect power or remove the battery only when the notice or support representative says it is safe and necessary.
- Keep the item, label and purchase information together unless the remedy requires a specific return or disposal route.
- Save the notice, checker result, photographs, emails and case number.
- Follow shipping, drop-off, disabling and replacement instructions exactly; a recalled battery may need special transport directions.
- Tell other household members, employees or people who borrow the tool that it is unavailable until the remedy is complete.
Common mistakes that produce the wrong answer
Checking only a generic search result
Search results can omit a notice’s serial limits or link to an old page. Use the official recall index and the product-specific notice as the controlling source.

Matching only the product family
Names such as “40V trimmer” or “18V battery” describe broad families. A recall can cover only certain model numbers and serial ranges within that family.
Using the tool’s packaging instead of its label
Packaging may belong to a different unit or omit a serial number. Confirm the identifiers on the product data label whenever possible.
Assuming a non-U.S. result
The material reviewed here covers Ryobi’s U.S. site and U.S. CPSC releases. Ryobi links to regional sites from its support resources, but the U.S. index does not establish that every country’s notices are included. If the product is outside the United States, use the appropriate regional Ryobi site or ask support which jurisdiction’s notice applies.

Keeping your records current
Recall records and remedies can change. Recheck the official index when you are about to publish, sell, lend or return a Ryobi item, and whenever you receive a new safety notification. The index reviewed for this article was accessed October 13, 2026; later updates may add notices, change checkers or revise remedy instructions.
For a workplace or shared tool crib, record each item’s model and serial number in an inventory, then check new notices against that list. This does not replace the official checker, but it lets you identify potentially affected units quickly without repeatedly handling every tool.
Quick decision checklist
- Open Ryobi’s Recall Notices index.
- Choose the notice for the correct product type.
- Copy the complete model number from the label, normally near the top left.
- Copy the complete serial number, normally near the bottom right of the data label.
- Enter the identifiers into the notice’s checker, if provided.
- Compare the product description, model, serial range, geography and any date or sales-period condition.
- If included, stop using the item and follow that notice’s remedy.
- If uncertain, call 1-800-525-2579 with the label information and record the instructions.
This process answers “Is my Ryobi battery recalled?” and “How do I check a Ryobi recall by serial number?” without relying on a generic model-family guess. The official notice, exact label identifiers and stated remedy are the controlling information.
