The Protect-and-Serve Blade Rack is a wall-mounted woodworking project for storing saw blades separately, with room for an 8-inch stacked-dado set and its accessories. WOOD Magazine’s design accommodates blades from 7¼ to 10 inches in diameter. The instructions and dimensions below come from its project article, published September 14, 2016; they are project specifications, not independently tested performance claims.
What the rack holds
The design uses slots to separate and store saw blades, and also accommodates a complete 8-inch stacked-dado set. Dowel pins hold dado shims, a blade stabilizer, wrenches, and throat plates, keeping those pieces with the set. WOOD Magazine describes the rack as a way to keep blades accessible and protected from damage; that is the publisher’s description of the design, not a guarantee against damage.
WOOD Magazine specifies blades from 7¼ to 10 inches in diameter. Check that range against the blades you own before building. The source does not state a total blade-slot capacity, so do not assume a particular number of standard blades will fit.
Published dimensions
| Part | Dimensions | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Back | ¾ × 7½ × 29½ inches | WOOD Magazine says to add 2 inches to the back length for each extra slot. |
| Two sides | ¾ × 3 × 29½ inches each | Keep the pair matched when laying out and machining them. |
These are the dimensions published for the project, not a universal sizing rule. If you increase the slot count, account for the added length when planning the rack’s wall location.

How to build it
The project sequence is to prepare the back and sides, machine the holes and slots, assemble the rack, then finish and mount it. Follow the WOOD Magazine project for the full layout and hole-placement details: Protect-and-Serve Blade Rack project.
- Prepare the back and sides. Cut the back and both sides to the published dimensions, adjusting back length if you are adding slots.
- Lay out and drill the holes. Mark and drill the screw and dowel holes as shown in the project. Tape the sides face-to-face temporarily so you can lay them out and machine them alike; the article specifies ½-inch dowel holes.
- Cut the blade slots. Use a bandsaw or jigsaw to cut the slots, then smooth their edges with sandpaper.
- Assemble the rack. Screw the sides to the back, then glue the dowels into their holes for the dado-set accessories.
- Apply a clear finish. Let the finish dry according to its product instructions before loading the rack.
- Mount it to a wall stud. The article specifies 3-inch screws driven into a stud. Confirm the rack is securely supported before placing blades or accessories in it.
Before mounting or loading
- Confirm that the blades you intend to store fall within the published 7¼- to 10-inch diameter range.
- Plan the rack’s location and verify that the wall has a stud where the mounting screws will go.
- Use the project’s layout details for hole and slot placement; the component dimensions alone do not specify those positions.
- Keep the blade edges protected during handling and loading. The source describes the rack’s protective purpose but does not report testing or establish that it prevents every type of damage.

Quick Recap
Best Value
- ONE-HANDED QUICK ADJUSTMENT: The patented spiral design features a single pivot knob for lightning-fast setups. Simply drop it into the miter slot, push against the wood, and tighten—saving you time and frustration compared to traditional dual-knob featherboards
- MAXIMIZE SAFETY & PREVENT KICKBACK: Maintain continuous, even pressure against the fence for cleaner, more precise cuts. The engineered polymer body absorbs vibration and stops wood from reversing, keeping your fingers safely away from the blade
- UNIVERSAL 3/4" MITER SLOT FIT: Includes a premium aluminum expanding miter bar that locks securely into any standard 3/4-inch wide by 3/8-inch deep miter slot. (Note: Please measure your slot before purchase; does not fit 5/8-inch slots)
- MULTI-TOOL VERSATILITY: The reversible design works effortlessly for both left-side and right-side feed operations. It is the perfect shop accessory for ripping boards on a table saw, resawing lumber on a bandsaw, or routing edge profiles on a router table
- SHOP-TOUGH DURABILITY: Built to withstand the demands of both professional carpenters and hobbyist makers. The impact-resistant polymer body provides optimal flex and memory, consistently outperforming and outlasting brittle plastic alternatives

- 【7-BLADE ORGANIZED STORAGE】 Seven individual 3.5 mm wide horizontal slots keep saw blades separated instead of stacked directly on top of one another. Designed to organize most 7-1/4 to 12 in saw blades while making individual blades easier to access
- 【HEAVY-DUTY CARBON STEEL】 Built from carbon steel for a rigid storage structure that is better suited to workshop use than lightweight storage solutions. The black rust-resistant coating helps protect the metal surface during everyday storage and handling
- 【V-SHAPED HORIZONTAL STORAGE】 The triangular frame uses 4.33 in long horizontal slots on both sides to support each saw blade independently. The 7.87 in front opening provides space for different blade diameters while larger blades can remain partially exposed for easier removal
- 【PORTABLE OR SECURED SETUP】 An integrated top handle makes the rack easier to lift and reposition when needed. Two M6 mounting holes in the base also let you secure the organizer to a cabinet or other suitable mounting surface when a fixed setup is preferred
- 【PRACTICAL SLOT DIMENSIONS】 Each storage slot measures 3.5 mm wide and approximately 4.33 in long, with a 7.87 in maximum front opening and 5.1 in frame depth. Mounting hardware and installation instructions are included for setup
