How to Adjust Volume on Your Ring Camera, Doorbell, or Chime

Ring volume depends on what you want to hear: device speaker, Live View audio, doorbell sounds, or Chime alerts. Follow the exact app path for each and check model compatibility when a slider is missing.

Ring does not have one universal volume control. Choose the sound you want to change first: the Ring device speaker (what a visitor hears), Live View audio (what you hear), doorbell-press sounds, or a separate Chime’s alerts. Then use the matching control below.

Choose the control that matches the problem

If you want to change… Use this control
What a visitor hears during Two-Way Talk Device Speaker in the device’s Audio Settings, where the model supports it
What you hear during Live View Live View’s speaker icon and your phone, tablet, or computer media volume
The sound made when someone presses the doorbell Doorbell Sounds in the doorbell’s Audio Settings
The sound made by a Ring Chime Chime Tones, with separate Rings and Motion sliders
The siren No user volume slider is documented; Ring describes its Live View siren volume as fixed

The microphone icon is separate: it turns your outgoing voice on or off; it does not raise or lower volume.

Adjust a Ring video doorbell’s speaker or doorbell sound

Ring’s current instructions use this path (labels can vary slightly by model, region, or app release):

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Tap the menu icon (☰), then Devices.
  3. Select your video doorbell.
  4. Tap Device Settings, then Audio Settings.
  5. Move Device Speaker to change the level your visitor hears during Two-Way Talk, if that control is available.
  6. Move Doorbell Sounds if you want to change the audible sound produced when the button is pressed.
  7. Open Live View or press the doorbell to test the result.

Ring warns that Two-Way Talk volume adjustment is not available on every doorbell. If you see only one of these controls—or neither—check the exact model shown in the app rather than assuming the app is malfunctioning. Ring’s volume instructions list the current device-specific behavior.

#1 Best Overall
Ring Chime — Enhanced audio for real-time alerts you can hear from anywhere, easy plug-in setup, simple wifi & Bluetooth connectivity, sleek design, White
  • Hear when someone's there — Receive notifications when motion is detected by your cameras or someone rings your doorbell.
  • Real-time alerts, clear as a bell — With an upgraded speaker, get notified throughout your home with louder, clearer alerts.
  • Set up in a snap — Simply plug Chime (3rd Gen) into a standard wall outlet for easy setup.
  • Sleek, elegant design — Curved edges and slim profile create a modern look that fits your space.
  • Customizable sound profiles — Personalize tones, volume, and snooze settings.

Adjust a compatible Ring security camera

For cameras that expose a device-speaker slider:

  1. Open the Ring app and tap ☰.
  2. Tap Devices, then select the camera.
  3. Tap Device Settings → Audio Settings.
  4. Adjust Device Speaker.
  5. Start Live View and test Two-Way Talk from a normal speaking distance.

Ring currently documents this adjustable-volume procedure for Floodlight Cam (2nd Gen), Floodlight Cam Wired Plus, Floodlight Cam Wired Pro, and Floodlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen). “Ring camera” is not one uniform category: Indoor Cam, Stick Up Cam, Spotlight Cam, and other models may not display a Device Speaker slider. Check Ring’s model-specific guidance.

Change what you hear during Live View

  1. Open the camera or doorbell preview and tap Tap to Go Live.
  2. Make sure the Live View speaker icon is enabled rather than muted.
  3. Raise or lower your phone, tablet, or computer’s media volume.
  4. Use the Live View microphone icon separately when you want to speak through the Ring device.

The speaker icon controls incoming audio for that Live View session; it is not the same as the Device Speaker slider. Raising phone volume makes the owner hear more loudly, but does not make the outdoor device louder to a visitor. Ring says Live View is available to Ring app users and Shared Users without a subscription, and a standard session can last up to 10 minutes. See Ring’s Live View controls.

Adjust Ring Chime, Chime Plus, or Chime Pro volume

  1. In the Ring app, tap ☰ → Devices.
  2. Select the Chime device, not the camera or doorbell.
  3. Tap Audio Settings → Chime Tones.
  4. Adjust Rings and Motion independently.
  5. Preview the tone where available, save, and trigger a test event.

These sliders change the Chime’s indoor sound. They do not change the built-in speaker of the camera or doorbell.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If the Chime is not announcing an event

Link it to the relevant device first: Ring app dashboard → ☰ → Devices → select the camera or doorbell → Linked Chimes. Choose Rings or Motion Detected, select a tone, and tap Save. Ring’s linking instructions cover this setup.

Why a volume option may be missing

  • Your exact model does not support an adjustable Device Speaker slider; this is the strongest documented explanation for many cameras and some doorbells.
  • You selected the camera when you meant to select the Chime, or selected the Chime when you meant to change the camera speaker.
  • The control you need is in Live View (speaker icon) rather than Device Settings.
  • Doorbell Sounds applies to a doorbell press, not to a general security camera.
  • The device is still setting up, offline, or the app needs updating or restarting.
  • Ring has moved or renamed a control in a regional or newer app interface.

Confirm the exact model name in the app before troubleshooting further. Ring’s current support page also notes that availability varies by device: review the listed controls here.

Troubleshoot quiet, distorted, or ineffective audio

Symptom What to check first
You cannot hear the visitor Unmute the Live View speaker icon and raise the listening device’s media volume.
The visitor cannot hear you Enable the Live View microphone and check Device Speaker if your model supports it.
The doorbell press sound is too quiet Adjust Doorbell Sounds, not Device Speaker.
A motion alert is too quiet indoors Raise the Chime’s Motion slider under Chime Tones.
No slider appears Verify the exact model and selected device; the feature may not be supported.
The siren seems too loud or quiet Ring documents the Live View siren volume as fixed, so there is no adjustment to find.
A Chime slider has no effect Confirm event linking, test the tone, restart the app and Chime, and only then consider a reset. Ring Community users have suggested resetting a Chime for this symptom, but that is community troubleshooting rather than a guaranteed fix: community discussion.
The device is offline Restore connectivity before diagnosing audio; an offline device cannot reliably apply or test settings.

Test from the normal conversation position, not with the phone directly beside the camera. Wind, traffic, distance, echo, and network delay can make a correctly configured device sound quiet or distorted. Raising a device speaker may improve conversation clarity but can also make outdoor interactions more noticeable. If indoor coverage is the problem, adding or repositioning a Chime addresses that separately from outdoor Two-Way Talk volume.
