As of October 13, 2026, there is no verified public street-by-street diversion or closure list for Inner Circular Road construction. The latest surfaced update, dated October 4, says the Prime Minister directed agencies to review the plan, remove obstacles, coordinate and set a realistic timeframe; it does not announce a new completion date or identify affected roads. Before travelling, check current official notices and live traffic for your specific origin, destination and departure time rather than assuming a particular road is closed or choosing an unofficial route as if it were a signed detour.

This is a status and trip-planning guide, not a turn-by-turn detour map. The information available describes project scopes and dated progress, but does not confirm which streets are restricted today, when work is taking place, or whether buses have been rerouted. Treat any route choice as a trip-specific decision that needs a fresh check before departure.

What is known about the project—and what “Inner Circular Road” means

The name is used for more than one project scope, so headline figures should not be treated as interchangeable. The Bangladesh Bridges Division’s undated project entry, accessed October 9, 2026, describes an eastern elevated Inner Circular Ring Road alignment of 88.00 km. It says approximately 25.80 km of elevated road is under Bangladesh Bridge Authority oversight and lists the project as under progress. The entry also says the feasibility study was completed in 2024. Bangladesh Bridges Division project entry.

A separate July 2, 2026 report by The Daily Star, attributed to UNB, describes a 12 km project with work underway in sections of Rayerbazar, Hazaribagh and Kamrangirchar. The report says the route runs Gabtoli–Babubazar and Postogola–Demra. That 12 km figure describes the work reported in those sections; it should not be confused with, or added to, the Bridges Division’s 88 km alignment figure as if both refer to the same scope. The Daily Star/UNB report.

These figures answer different questions. The 88 km number is the stated total alignment length for the elevated eastern project entry. The approximately 25.80 km figure is the elevated portion described as under Bangladesh Bridge Authority oversight. The 12 km figure belongs to a separate, locally described construction report covering named sections. The available sources do not explain the full relationship between the scopes, so readers should not assume that the 12 km is a subset, a phase total, or a replacement for the 88 km project figure.

For commute planning, the practical distinction is important: a project’s overall alignment does not tell you which neighborhood street is being worked on or whether your route is restricted today. Likewise, a progress percentage for one reported work package cannot be applied to the entire elevated alignment. Use each figure only with its source and stated scope.

Progress figures are dated snapshots

Officials told The Daily Star/UNB in July that the 12 km project was about 45% complete. That is a July 2026 snapshot, not a verified measure of progress on October 13. The October update reports a direction to accelerate implementation and establish a realistic timeframe, but supplies no revised completion schedule. Neither report establishes how a particular commute is affected today.

Do not translate “about 45% complete” into a prediction about remaining construction time. The report does not provide a method for calculating progress, a work-by-work schedule, or a date for opening particular sections. It also does not establish whether the named sections have changed since July. If a new progress figure or opening date is published, check its date, project scope and attribution before using it to plan a trip.

What the latest update says about timing

On October 4, 2026, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that the Prime Minister directed relevant ministries and city bodies to jointly review the project plan, remove obstacles, coordinate, speed implementation and set a realistic completion timeframe. The report does not give a new deadline, list current work zones, or announce a signed diversion. BSS report, October 4, 2026.

For commuters, this means the project is moving through an implementation review, but the update is not enough to determine which streets are affected on a given day. Construction boundaries, hours, lane restrictions and diversions can change. A general project update cannot substitute for a current traffic notice.

  • Heavy-Duty Aluminum – Crafted from premium rust-free aluminum, these road safety signs are durable, weather-resistant, and built to withstand long-term outdoor use without fading or bending
  • Reflective Performancel – High-intensity reflective surface ensures these traffic detour signs remain easy to read both day and night, perfect for construction zones, driveways, and underground parking areas

  • Wide Application – These industrial detour signs with arrow provide safe traffic guidance in construction zones and parking facilities. They are perfect for long-term use in driveways, lots, warehouses, and garages

The direction to review and coordinate should not be read as evidence that a specific restriction has started, ended or been approved. Nor does a call to set a realistic timeframe amount to a published completion date. The safe reading is narrower: officials were directed to address obstacles and coordinate implementation, while the report left the operational details open.

When a report mentions a project but not its traffic arrangements, keep those two questions separate. Project status concerns plans, oversight, progress and scheduling. A usable commute update needs more specific information, such as the affected road and direction, the dates or hours of a restriction, and any authorized diversion. The surfaced October report provides the first kind of information, not the second.

How construction may affect a commute

Work on a road corridor can affect access and traffic near the active work area, but the available reports do not establish specific closures, congestion levels, delay times, or travel-time savings for Inner Circular Road. They also do not identify affected bus routes or confirm that any named road is currently restricted. Do not infer a commute impact from the project’s length or reported completion percentage.

That uncertainty means there is no defensible, source-backed estimate here for how many minutes to add, which corridor will be slower, or which alternative is quickest. Conditions can depend on the exact origin and destination, direction of travel and time of day, as well as any restriction in force when you leave. A general project map or progress report cannot resolve those trip-level variables.

It is also important not to confuse three different things: a construction area mentioned in a dated report, a road closure confirmed for a particular date, and a route suggested by a navigation app. The July report names sections where work was underway at that time; it does not confirm that all surrounding streets are closed now. An app may suggest a route based on current or modeled conditions, but that suggestion is not an official diversion unless an authority notice confirms it.

The July report also mentions a proposed circular waterway around Dhaka, described by officials as 110 km. It is a proposal in that report, not an operating transport service or a current detour option. Do not count it as a practical substitute for a road journey or assume it provides a way around construction.

How to check and plan a detour before leaving

  1. Start with your actual trip. Enter your origin and destination, then set the departure time you expect to travel. A route that looks suitable at another time of day may not fit your trip conditions. Check the direction you will travel, not only whether a road name appears in a general project update.
  2. Check current official notices. Look for recent updates from Dhaka Metropolitan Police, the relevant city corporation and the agency executing the work. Confirm the notice date and whether it names your road, direction and travel period. The DMP page surfaced for this topic is general road-safety information, not a project-specific live closure bulletin: DMP: Road Safety Situation In Dhaka.
  3. Check live traffic close to departure. Compare routes in a live navigation service shortly before travelling, using the same origin, destination and departure time. Treat an app’s suggested alternative as a route suggestion—not an official diversion—unless an authority notice confirms it. Conditions seen earlier can become stale, so refresh close to leaving.
  4. Verify critical links on the route. If your route depends on a particular crossing, access road or turn, confirm it is open through current information. Compare alternatives by how well they serve both ends of your trip, traffic at your departure time, transfers and walking burden, and confirmed access.
  5. Leave room for uncertainty. If no current official diversion is available, allow extra time and check again before departure. If practical, consider another travel mode, but do not assume an unverified corridor will be faster.

A practical comparison, without guessing a route

Rather than searching for a single “best detour” in the abstract, compare the options shown for your own trip. Start with whether each option reaches both your actual origin and destination; a route that skirts a work area may still be inconvenient if it leaves a long walk or an awkward transfer at either end. Next, check what live traffic says for your expected departure time. A route that appears shorter on a map is not automatically the better choice if its current traffic or access is uncertain.

Then check the route’s critical links. If an option depends on a crossing, access road or turn that you cannot verify as open, treat it as uncertain rather than assuming the app has confirmed access. If you are comparing a different travel mode, consider the transfer and walking burden as well as whether the relevant access points are confirmed. The available sources do not establish that any particular mode or corridor is faster during this construction, so make that comparison locally and at the time you will travel.

Keep the result proportionate to the evidence. An official notice naming a restriction is stronger evidence of a closure than a general project article. A live navigation display can help you compare current route suggestions, but it does not by itself make a route an authorized diversion. If the two sources do not settle a critical access question, check for a newer authority update or choose an option that does not depend on an unverified link where practical.

What to do when you cannot verify a closure

The absence of a project-specific notice on a page you checked does not prove that every road is open. The relevant information may not be on that page, may have changed, or may not be available from the sources cited here. Avoid turning “I did not find a notice” into “there is no restriction.” Instead, state what you checked, when you checked it, and what remains uncertain.

If no current official diversion is available, do not invent one or label an app route as official. Check live traffic again close to departure, allow extra time, and consider another mode if it is practical for your trip. If a particular crossing or access road is essential and its status cannot be confirmed, do not rely on a map suggestion alone as proof that it is open.

What the available traffic sources can—and cannot—confirm

The Roads and Highways Department’s Traffic Insight Hub link is a traffic survey report interface, not a verified live construction bulletin for this project. It should not be read as confirmation of a current Inner Circular Road closure or diversion. RHD Traffic Insight Hub: Traffic Report.

The surfaced DMP page is likewise general road-safety information. Neither source, as surfaced, provides a current project-specific list of lane restrictions, work hours, bus diversions or street-level detours. A lack of a notice in these pages does not prove that a road is open; confirm with current authority updates and traffic conditions before relying on a route.

For a useful check, distinguish the type of source from the question you need answered. A project page can establish how the project is described and whether an agency lists it as under progress. A dated news report can provide a snapshot of what officials said at that time. A current traffic or authority notice would need to answer operational questions for a specific road and period. The pages cited here do not provide that last kind of project-specific bulletin.

Keep a visible “checked on” date with any route-impact statement. This guide’s status is framed as of October 13, 2026, while the project scope figures come from a Bridges Division entry accessed October 9, and the 12 km, 45% and waterway details come from a July 2 report. Those dates matter: they show when the information was reported, not when a reader’s route will be open or congested.

Quick pre-trip checklist

  • Check the date and time of any closure or diversion notice.
  • Match the notice to your road, direction and expected travel period.
  • Compare live routes from your actual origin to destination just before leaving.
  • Do not treat a navigation-app route as an official diversion without confirmation.
  • Verify any crossing, access road or turn that is essential to the route.
  • Compare alternatives by departure-time traffic, endpoint coverage, transfers and walking burden.
  • Allow extra time when current restrictions remain unclear; reconsider mode if practical.
  • Do not treat the July progress figure as current October progress or a completion forecast.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which roads are closed because of Inner Circular Road construction?

The current authority and news pages described here do not establish a current street-by-street closure list, lane restriction, work hour or signed diversion. The July 2026 report described work in Rayerbazar, Hazaribagh and Kamrangirchar at that time, but it is not confirmation of today’s restrictions. Check current DMP, city corporation or executing-agency notices and live traffic before leaving.

Is there an official detour or affected bus route?

The surfaced October 4 update does not announce a signed diversion, and the cited sources do not identify affected bus routes. Do not assume an app’s suggested route is an official diversion. Look for a current authority notice that names the route, direction and travel period.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How much extra time should I allow?

No verified commute-delay figure or measured congestion impact is reported, so there is no source-backed number of minutes to add. Check live traffic for your actual trip shortly before departure and allow extra time if restrictions remain unclear.

Is the project 12 km or 88 km long?

The figures refer to differently described scopes. The Bridges Division entry gives an 88 km total alignment for the eastern elevated project and about 25.80 km of elevated road under Bangladesh Bridge Authority oversight. A July 2 report describes a 12 km project with work underway in named sections. The sources do not establish that these numbers are interchangeable or how their full scopes relate.

Is the road 45% complete, and when will it be finished?

Officials were reported as saying the 12 km project was about 45% complete in July 2026. That is a dated snapshot, not a verified October progress figure. The October 4 report says agencies were directed to set a realistic timeframe but gives no new completion date.

Can I use the proposed circular waterway as an alternative?

No operating service is established by the cited report. It describes a proposed 110 km circular waterway, not an available transport option or detour.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do the DMP and RHD links show live construction closures?

Not according to the descriptions given here. The DMP page is general road-safety information, while the RHD Traffic Insight Hub link is a traffic survey report interface rather than a verified live construction bulletin for this project. Check current authority notices for operational restrictions.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: As of October 13, 2026, the latest surfaced update directs agencies to review and accelerate the project, but it does not provide a street-level detour, current closure list or completion date. Treat the July construction and 45% progress figures as dated information, distinguish the 12 km report from the Bridges Division’s 88 km alignment, and check current official notices plus live traffic for your exact trip just before departure. If a restriction or critical access point remains unverified, allow extra time and do not present a guessed route as an official diversion.
