For most new HomeKit installations, choose the Aqara Doorbell Camera Hub G410. It is currently listed by Apple as a HomeKit Secure Video accessory and combines a wide 175-degree view, battery or hardwired installation, local storage when wired, and useful detection features. However, its 2K camera hardware is limited to 1200p in HomeKit Secure Video, and 24/7 microSD recording requires wired power.
The Aqara G4 is the better battery-focused alternative. Logitech’s Circle View Doorbell remains a credible Apple-first wired option if you can verify current availability. Netatmo supports HomeKit live viewing but should not be confused with a HomeKit Secure Video doorbell, and Belkin’s Wemo model is now legacy hardware rather than a new-installation choice.

For a new Apple Home installation, the Aqara Doorbell Camera Hub G410 is the strongest all-around HomeKit Secure Video candidate in this updated roundup. It is listed by Apple as a HomeKit Secure Video accessory, supports battery or hardwired installation, offers a wide 175-degree field of view, and adds useful features such as mmWave presence detection, local face recognition, a built-in indoor chime, and local microSD recording when wired.
There is one important qualification: Aqara advertises the G410 as a 2K doorbell, but HomeKit Secure Video viewing is limited to 1200p. Its 24/7 microSD recording and RTSP support also require wired power, and the microSD card is not included.
#1 Best Overall
- Capture it all with Retinal 2K video — From wide views to tighter focus, it’s easy to see your home or business in crisp clarity with Retinal 2K.
- Zoom in up to 6x — Catch details at a distance, inspect faces, and more with up to 6x Enhanced Zoom.
- Connect to who’s there — See, hear, and speak in real time with Live View and Two-Way Talk.
- Get real-time alerts — Receive real-time notifications on your phone when motion is detected.
- Easily recharge — Simply insert the included removal tool to detach your doorbell from the wall, then recharge the built-in battery via USB-C. (Cable not included.)
The Aqara G4 is the better fit if battery operation and a lower product tier matter more than resolution and detection features. The Logitech Circle View Doorbell remains the most Apple-focused wired alternative, but its age and uncertain current availability make it a conditional recommendation rather than an automatic winner. Netatmo can stream in Apple Home but should not be treated as equivalent to a HomeKit Secure Video doorbell.
This article updates the product picture behind the 9to5Mac HomeKit doorbell roundup published in October 2022. That roundup remains useful historical context, but it is not a current buying guide without accounting for Aqara’s newer G410 and Belkin’s January 2026 Wemo service shutdown.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhat HomeKit Secure Video actually gives you
HomeKit Secure Video, commonly abbreviated HSV, is Apple’s camera-recording system inside the Home app. Compatible footage is processed through a home hub, transferred using encryption, and uploaded to iCloud in an end-to-end encrypted form. Apple describes a rolling 10-day activity history for supported cameras and doorbells.
The privacy benefit is substantial, but it is easy to overstate. HomeKit Secure Video does not necessarily eliminate every manufacturer’s service. A doorbell may still have its own app, local storage, optional cloud recording, ecosystem-specific face recognition, firmware service, or smart-home hub. Aqara’s local face recognition, for example, is a separate feature from Apple’s HomeKit processing. Choose the product and configure its services according to the privacy boundary you actually want.
HomeKit compatibility is not the same as HomeKit Secure Video
Apple’s distinction matters:
| Capability | HomeKit-compatible camera or doorbell | HomeKit Secure Video camera or doorbell |
|---|---|---|
| Live video in the Apple Home app | Yes | Yes |
| Apple Home notifications and automations | Supported features vary by product | Supported features vary by product |
| HomeKit Secure Video encrypted recording | No | Yes |
| Apple Home face-recognition features | No | Yes |
| Rolling activity history in Apple Home | No HSV history | Yes, subject to the product, plan, and Home setup |
In practical terms, a Netatmo doorbell that can show a live feed in Home is not interchangeable with an Aqara or Logitech model that supports HSV recording. If your priority is Apple’s encrypted recording workflow rather than simply viewing the camera in Home, filter for explicit HomeKit Secure Video support.
iCloud+ and home-hub requirements
A compatible Apple home hub is required for HomeKit Secure Video. Apple’s current guidance identifies HomePod and Apple TV 4K as the relevant home-hub choices in its current iPhone documentation, while other Apple support material discusses older devices and legacy arrangements. Check your current Apple Home architecture and operating-system requirements before buying; do not assume that an old iPad or an older Apple TV will provide the same support.
Apple’s current iCloud+ camera limits are:
- 50GB iCloud+: one HomeKit Secure Video camera.
- 200GB iCloud+: up to five cameras.
- 2TB, 6TB, and 12TB iCloud+: an unlimited number of HomeKit Secure Video cameras.
HomeKit Secure Video recordings do not count against the normal iCloud storage quota. Plan availability and pricing can vary by country, so verify the plan offered in your region. If you do not already have a supported iCloud+ plan and home hub, the doorbell alone will not create a complete HSV system.
Best current choice: Aqara Doorbell Camera Hub G410
The G410 is the most convincing broad recommendation because it combines current Apple recognition with installation flexibility and features that are useful beyond a basic live video feed. Apple lists it in its HomeKit Secure Video accessory catalog, and Aqara describes it as a 2K doorbell with a 4:3 image, a 175-degree field of view, two-way audio, local face recognition, mmWave presence detection, and a built-in indoor chime.
Why the G410 stands out
- Battery or wired installation: Aqara supports either six AA batteries or a hardwired connection.
- Wide viewing area: The 175-degree field of view and 4:3 framing are helpful for seeing packages and visitors close to the door, not just faces at eye level.
- Presence detection: mmWave detection is designed to distinguish presence more intelligently than a basic motion trigger.
- Local and Apple recording choices: When hardwired, the G410 supports 24/7 microSD recording and RTSP in addition to HomeKit Secure Video event recording.
- Built-in chime: The indoor chime can provide a local alert without relying only on a phone or HomePod announcement.
- Broader Aqara platform: The unit includes a Matter controller, Zigbee hub, and Thread border-router functionality.
Aqara says six AA batteries can last up to five months under its stated usage assumptions. Treat that as a manufacturer estimate, not a guarantee: visitor frequency, motion activity, temperature, Wi-Fi conditions, and notification settings all affect battery life. A wired installation is the better choice for a busy entrance, continuous local recording, and fewer maintenance visits.
Rank #2
- AI-Powered Smart Detection: Advanced AI technology accurately identifies people while filtering out vehicles and animals, so you only get the alerts that matter most
- Secure Cloud Storage: Protect your recordings with AES-128 encrypted cloud storage
- Pre-Capture Recording: Cloud subscribers benefit from pre-capture functionality, ensuring the camera starts recording right at the moment motion begins - never miss a thing
- Reliable 2.4GHz Wi-Fi Connection: Optimized for 2.4GHz networks to deliver stable, uninterrupted performance. (Not compatible with 5GHz Wi-Fi.)
- Exceptional Night Vision: Equipped with four powerful infrared LEDs and an advanced image sensor, providing sharp, detailed footage even in total darkness
The G410 caveats you should not miss
2K does not mean 2K in HomeKit Secure Video. Aqara explicitly limits HSV viewing to 1200p. If you are buying the G410 primarily for Apple’s recording system, judge its picture quality at that resolution rather than assuming that the full 2K specification carries through to HSV.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
24/7 recording and RTSP require wired power. Battery installation is convenient, but it is not the configuration for continuous local recording. Hardwired operation requires a 12–24V AC or DC supply. The microSD card is sold separately, so budget for a microSD card for Aqara G410 if local recording is part of your plan. Use a card that meets Aqara’s current model-specific requirements rather than choosing solely by capacity.
The Aqara ecosystem is optional, not essential. The Matter controller, Zigbee hub, and Thread border router can be valuable if you already use Aqara devices. They should not by themselves decide the purchase for someone who only wants an Apple Home doorbell. The key Apple-specific questions are whether HSV works in your region and setup, whether your home hub is compatible, and whether the doorbell’s wired or battery installation suits the property.
For a door that receives direct rain or splashback, consider whether an Aqara G410 waterproof cover is appropriate for the mounting position. It is an accessory for reducing water exposure, not a substitute for correct placement, sealing, or compliance with the manufacturer’s installation instructions.
Best flexible-value option: Aqara G4
The Aqara G4 remains a sensible choice for readers who want a battery-capable HomeKit Secure Video doorbell without moving up to the G410. It provides 1080p video, a 162-degree field of view, infrared night vision, two-way audio, local facial recognition, and dual battery or wired power.

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallThe G4 also offers a seven-day Aqara cloud option, while its indoor chime supports local microSD storage. Aqara states that 24/7 recording is available only when the doorbell is wired. Battery mode is therefore best understood as a flexible installation option for event-based monitoring, not as a substitute for continuous recording.
Choose the Aqara G4 HomeKit doorbell when:
- you need battery operation because there is no usable doorbell wiring;
- 1080p is sufficient for your entrance and viewing distance;
- you want native HomeKit Secure Video without paying for the G410’s additional hardware features; or
- you prefer a smaller or simpler Aqara installation.
Choose the G410 instead when the wider 175-degree view, mmWave presence detection, 2K camera hardware, built-in smart-home hub, or wired local-recording options justify the difference. The G4 is a value and installation-flexibility recommendation, not automatically the best overall model.
Best Apple-first wired alternative: Logitech Circle View Doorbell
The Logitech Circle View Doorbell remains important because it was designed specifically around Apple HomeKit rather than being a general-purpose camera later given HomeKit support. Logitech’s published specifications include wired installation, a 160-degree field of view, HDR, color night vision, two-way audio, face recognition, activity zones, IP65 resistance, and compatibility with 8–24V AC doorbell wiring.
The Logitech Circle View Doorbell is the model to consider if you want a straightforward, Apple-focused wired system and can verify that it is still available and supported where you live. Its main disadvantages are the wiring requirement, the need to verify transformer capacity, and product-lifecycle uncertainty. Current stock, pricing, firmware support, and regional availability should be checked immediately before purchase.

In 9to5Mac’s 2021 hands-on review, the reviewer reported several weeks of consistently reliable use, good picture quality, useful face recognition, HomePod announcements, and a simple Home app experience. The review also criticized the resolution relative to what the product could have offered and emphasized checking wiring compatibility. Those are 9to5Mac’s reported observations, not a new test for this article.

Netatmo: HomeKit streaming without the same HSV benefit
Netatmo’s Smart Video Doorbell is a compatibility option, but it belongs in a different category from the G410, G4, and Circle View. Netatmo’s installation manual confirms Apple HomeKit compatibility and requires scanning a HomeKit setup code during configuration. The 9to5Mac comparison identified it as a HomeKit product without HomeKit Secure Video.
That means Netatmo can be useful if your priority is viewing and controlling the doorbell through Apple Home, but it is a weaker match if your priority is Apple’s end-to-end encrypted recording and Home-based face-recognition workflow. Confirm the current firmware and regional feature set before buying, especially if HSV is a non-negotiable requirement.
Installation is also more involved than simply attaching a battery doorbell. Netatmo’s documentation describes replacing the existing doorbell button and connecting a supplied chime module in parallel with the existing chime. Verify the existing wiring and transformer before ordering; a HomeKit badge does not guarantee compatibility with every residential doorbell circuit.
Robin ProLine: a specialist and commercial option
Robin ProLine deserves mention as a commercial-oriented HomeKit Secure Video option rather than a normal residential recommendation. 9to5Mac described it as substantially more expensive than consumer alternatives in its 2021 review. It may make sense for a commercial installation, a managed property, or a project with requirements that justify specialist hardware and pricing.
Current model availability, pricing, regional support, and installation arrangements need fresh verification. Do not treat the older review’s price or availability as current, and do not choose Robin ProLine as the default option for an ordinary house simply because it supports HSV.
Do not buy the Belkin Wemo doorbell for a new installation
Legacy warning: Belkin’s January 2026 support notice says Wemo cloud services and app support for affected products ended on January 31, 2026. The Wemo Smart Video Doorbell Camera, model WDC010, is among the products that may continue functioning locally in Apple Home if it was configured before the shutdown. However, new setup or reconfiguration through the Wemo app or HomeKit is no longer possible after that date.
An existing owner whose Wemo doorbell is already configured may be able to keep using it locally, subject to the limitations of the shutdown. That is very different from a supported new purchase. Avoid second-hand Wemo listings unless you fully understand that an unconfigured or reset device may not be usable in a new HomeKit installation. Wemo is legacy hardware, not a current recommendation.

- The 2021 review treated Logitech Circle View as a notable consumer-oriented HSV product and discussed Netatmo, Yobi B3, Arlo, and Robin in the context of HomeKit support.
- The October 2022 roundup reflected a market in which the distinction between basic HomeKit streaming and HSV support was especially important.
- Aqara’s G410 launched globally in July 2025 and is now listed by Apple as a HomeKit Secure Video accessory, making it the strongest current broad candidate in this comparison.
- Belkin’s Wemo shutdown on January 31, 2026 changes the advice for anyone considering a Wemo doorbell today.
Yobi B3 and the Arlo references remain useful for explaining the market’s history, but old mentions do not prove current availability, firmware support, or exact HomeKit behavior. They should not be placed in a current buying table without separate verification.

Check the infrastructure before you order
A doorbell is a low-voltage electrical installation as well as a camera purchase. The most attractive feature list will not compensate for an incompatible transformer, missing chime wiring, weak Wi-Fi, or a door position that leaves visitors outside the camera’s useful field of view.
1. Identify the existing power arrangement
For the G410, Aqara specifies 12–24V AC or DC for hardwired operation. Logitech specifies 8–24V AC and at least 10VA or higher in its published specifications. Those ranges are not interchangeable instructions: check the exact model requirements, transformer output, wiring condition, and available power before connecting anything.
If you need a replacement, search for a 12–24V doorbell transformer only after confirming whether the selected doorbell accepts AC, DC, or both and whether the transformer has enough capacity. Do not select a transformer by voltage alone. Turn off the relevant circuit before working on the wiring, and use a qualified professional when the circuit is unclear or does not pass the manufacturer’s compatibility check.
2. Confirm how the indoor chime is wired
Netatmo uses a chime module connected in parallel with the existing chime. Aqara models use their own indoor chime arrangement, and the Logitech installation depends on compatible existing doorbell wiring. Photograph and identify the current terminals before removal, but do not assume that terminal labels or a familiar chime configuration are universal.
3. Test Wi-Fi at the mounting position
Measure or test the wireless signal at the actual exterior door, not beside the router. A doorbell may work during setup and then fail intermittently when the door is closed, the weather changes, or the camera is mounted behind masonry or metal. If the signal is marginal, solve that infrastructure problem before blaming HomeKit notifications or HSV.
4. Check the Apple Home hub and iCloud+ plan
Sign in to the Apple account that will manage the Home, confirm that a supported Apple home hub is present and online, and verify the iCloud+ tier against the number of cameras you intend to use. A 50GB plan supports one HSV camera, 200GB supports up to five, and the larger 2TB, 6TB, and 12TB tiers support unlimited cameras according to Apple’s current documentation.
5. Decide whether you need local recording
For the G410, 24/7 recording and RTSP require wired power. For the G4, Aqara also states that 24/7 recording is available only when wired, with local microSD storage in the indoor chime. A high-endurance card may be appropriate for repeated writing, but verify the current model-specific capacity and format requirements before purchasing one.
6. Plan for weather and maintenance
Use the manufacturer’s mounting and sealing instructions. A waterproof cover can reduce exposure for a G410 installation in a vulnerable position, but it should not block the camera, microphone, speaker, or motion sensors. Battery models also need a maintenance plan: the manufacturer’s up-to-five-month estimate for six G410 AA batteries is usage-dependent, and cold weather can reduce practical runtime.

Which HomeKit doorbell should you choose?
- Choose the Aqara G410 if you want the best current combination of HSV, wide coverage, battery or wired installation, and local-storage flexibility.
- Choose the Aqara G4 if battery operation, a lower-tier price, or simpler installation matters more than 2K hardware and the G410’s detection and hub features.
- Choose the Logitech Circle View if you want a strongly Apple-focused wired doorbell and can confirm current stock, firmware support, regional availability, and transformer compatibility.
- Choose Netatmo only if HomeKit live streaming is enough and you accept that it is not the same as HomeKit Secure Video in the cited comparison.
- Consider Robin ProLine only for a commercial or specialist project where its cost and support model are appropriate.
- Do not choose Wemo for a new installation. Existing configured units may continue locally, but the post-shutdown setup limitations make the hardware unsuitable for a normal new purchase.
Bottom line
The current HomeKit doorbell market is no longer accurately represented by a 2022 roundup alone. The Aqara G410 is the best general starting point for a new installation, provided you understand that HomeKit Secure Video is capped at 1200p and that continuous local recording requires wired power. The Aqara G4 is the practical battery-oriented alternative, while Logitech remains a credible wired Apple specialist if you can verify that it is still supported and available.
Before buying, make three checks: confirm that the product explicitly supports HomeKit Secure Video if encrypted recording is important, verify the transformer and chime wiring, and confirm that your Apple home hub and iCloud+ plan support the number of cameras you want. Those checks matter more than a product badge or an old roundup ranking.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between HomeKit and HomeKit Secure Video?
Yes, but the labels describe different capabilities. A HomeKit-compatible doorbell can stream live video in Apple Home, while a HomeKit Secure Video model also supports Apple’s encrypted recording workflow and related Home features. Netatmo is the key example in this roundup: it supports HomeKit but was identified as lacking HSV in the cited comparison.
Does the Aqara G410 record in 2K through HomeKit Secure Video?
For the G410, Aqara says HSV viewing is limited to 1200p even though the doorbell hardware is advertised as 2K. The G4 is a 1080p model. Logitech publishes its own Circle View specifications, but Apple’s HSV processing does not turn a product’s hardware resolution into unlimited full-resolution recording.
Can an Aqara HomeKit doorbell record 24/7 on battery power?
Battery operation is supported, but Aqara states that the G410’s 24/7 microSD recording and RTSP support require wired power. The G4 also requires wired power for 24/7 recording. Battery mode is better suited to event-based monitoring and flexible installation.

You need a compatible Apple home hub, such as a currently supported HomePod or Apple TV 4K, plus an eligible iCloud+ plan. Apple’s current limits are one camera on 50GB, up to five on 200GB, and unlimited cameras on 2TB, 6TB, and 12TB plans. Verify current device and plan support in your region.
Should I buy a Belkin Wemo Smart Video Doorbell?
No. Belkin says affected Wemo cloud and app support ended January 31, 2026. A Wemo Smart Video Doorbell that was already configured with Apple Home may continue functioning locally, but new setup or reconfiguration is no longer available. It is not suitable for a normal new installation.
What wiring should I check before installing a HomeKit doorbell?
The G410 requires 12–24V AC or DC for hardwired operation. Logitech specifies 8–24V AC and at least 10VA or higher. Netatmo uses a chime module and has its own installation requirements. Verify the exact product documentation, transformer capacity, chime wiring, and local electrical requirements before installation.
The Bottom Line
Best current pick: Aqara G410 for most new HomeKit Secure Video installations. Choose the G4 for battery-focused value, Logitech Circle View for a verified Apple-first wired setup, and avoid Wemo for new installations because setup and reconfiguration ended after January 31, 2026.
