What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Short answer: related Hive app problems have been fixed, but Hive has not confirmed a universal fix for recurring automatic logout. Hive says updates resolved several specific faults, including an Android login crash in version 15.2.0 or later, loading problems and British Gas account-linking issues. However, its published service information does not specifically say that persistent session loss or repeated sign-outs are fixed for every customer.
If Hive still returns you to the sign-in screen after updating, first establish whether you are experiencing a logout, rejected credentials, an app crash, a loading failure or a device-cloud connection problem. Those symptoms require different checks.

What the latest Hive updates actually fixed
Hive’s official service-status information records several resolved app problems, but these should not be confused with a confirmed fix for automatic logout:
- Version 15.2.0 or later: Hive says an Android issue where the app closed unexpectedly while users were logging in was resolved. This addresses an app crash, not necessarily repeated sign-outs.
- Version 15.2.1 or later: Hive says a hot-water boost problem was resolved.
- Version 15.3: Hive says an Android British Gas account-linking problem was resolved.
- Version 15.4.1: Hive introduced a new British Gas account-linking journey and required customers using that feature to update by 7 p.m. on Monday, July 20, 2026.
The UK App Store listing recorded version 15.4.1 on July 14, 2026, with a new app experience, Dark Mode beta, British Gas-linking improvements and bug fixes. Store versions can vary by country and rollout: the US listing showed version 15.3.1 at the time it was captured. Check your own store rather than assuming 15.4.1 is installed or is the latest version everywhere.

Identify the failure before trying a fix
| What you see | More likely category | Useful test |
|---|---|---|
| The app returns to the sign-in screen | Session, account or app authentication | Try web access, another device and another network |
| Your valid password is rejected | Account, authentication, region or app issue | Try browser login or a password reset |
| The app closes during login | App crash or operating-system compatibility | Update and force-stop the app |
| The app spins indefinitely or shows a blank screen | App loading, cloud service, network or synchronisation issue | Check service status and test mobile data |
| You are signed in but devices are offline | Hub, cloud or app-to-device communication | Check the hub, router and local thermostat |
| Only a secondary user is affected | Permissions, invitation or account ownership | Test the primary user’s access |
An app saying that a device is offline does not automatically mean the thermostat or heating system has failed. The thermostat may continue controlling heating locally while remote cloud access is unavailable.
Check the installed Hive app version
- Open the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
- Search for Hive and open the official app listing.
- Tap Update if it is available.
- Reopen Hive and record the exact version number before testing again.
Hive’s update guidance recommends using the latest available app version when troubleshooting. Also record your phone model, iOS or Android version, the approximate failure time and whether the problem occurs on Wi-Fi, mobile data or both.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTry these recovery steps in order
1. Check Hive’s service status
Visit the Hive service-status page before repeatedly changing your password or resetting equipment. An active authentication or app incident can make local troubleshooting ineffective.

2. Force-close and reopen Hive
On an iPhone or iPad, swipe up from the bottom and pause, or double-click the Home button on older models. Find Hive and swipe it upwards to close it, then reopen the app.
On Android, open Settings > Apps or Applications > Hive > Force Stop, then reopen Hive. Hive documents this procedure for an unresponsive or unexpectedly behaving app.
See Hive’s force-close instructions for platform-specific guidance.
3. Test the account outside the app
Try signing in through Hive’s supported browser access if it is available for your product and market. Hive’s access guidance distinguishes browser, desktop and mobile routes.

- Web login works, but the app logs you out: the fault is more likely local app state, the phone, the platform or the stored session.
- Web login also fails: investigate the account, password or service with Hive.
- You can sign in but the home or devices are missing: this is not simply a logout problem; account ownership, permissions or synchronisation may be involved.
4. Try another network or phone
Test mobile data instead of home Wi-Fi, then Wi-Fi instead of mobile data. If possible, try another phone. A change in results can point to VPN, DNS, filtering, private-relay, captive-portal or local connectivity interference, although it does not prove the cause.
5. Reset the password only when appropriate
A password reset is sensible if browser login also fails or you cannot confirm the credentials. A failed app login does not prove that the password is wrong: a crash, service incident, corrupted session or network problem can produce the same result.
6. Reinstall cautiously
Reinstalling may clear damaged local app data, but it is not a confirmed universal cure. Before uninstalling, make sure you know the correct Hive email address, can receive password-reset messages, know which account owns the home and understand whether you are the primary or secondary user.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Do not delete the Hive account, remove devices or perform a factory reset simply because the app has logged you out. Those actions can make an account or pairing problem harder to recover.

If Hive says your devices are offline
Check the system in separate parts:
- Can the physical thermostat control heating?
- Is the Hive hub powered?
- Do the hub and router show their normal status lights?
- Are all devices missing, or only one?
- Does the web account show the home and devices?
- Does the app recover after force-closing or changing networks?
User reports describe cases where the thermostat continued working while the app showed devices as unavailable. These reports indicate a possible app, hub or cloud-communication pattern, but they do not establish a single cause. Repeatedly unplugging the hub is not an official general remedy and should not be the default response.
When to contact Hive
After updating, checking service status, force-closing the app, testing another network and checking web access, further local resets are unlikely to add much. Contact Hive through its official contact page for login, password, technical, outage and bug-support routes.
Provide:
- Exact Hive app version
- Phone model and iOS or Android version
- Screenshot or screen recording
- Exact error message
- Date and time of the latest failure
- Whether browser login works
- Whether another user on the same Hive home is affected
- Whether the thermostat still works manually
- Whether the problem began immediately after an update
This information helps separate an account-session fault from an app crash, network problem, hub issue or service-side incident.
Should you replace Hive?
Switching platforms is reasonable only after confirming that the problem follows the Hive account or service rather than one phone, app installation or network. Replacement becomes more defensible when the failure persists across multiple phones and networks, Hive cannot restore reliable access, or you specifically want local control and less dependence on one vendor’s cloud service.
Before replacing a heating controller, check boiler wiring, hot-water requirements, zones, radiator valves, receiver compatibility and installation requirements. Do not replace hardware solely because the app displays an offline message while the thermostat works locally.
Possible alternatives
- Drayton Wiser: a UK heating-focused alternative with multi-zone and radiator-thermostat options. Its Wiser Home app lists minimum requirements of iOS 15 or later and Android 8 or later. Wiser also documents its own login and remote-access failures, so it is not immune to cloud or authentication problems. See Wiser’s app requirements and login guidance.
- Tado°: suited to room-by-room heating control and radiator valves. It remains cloud- and account-dependent in relevant configurations, so it should not be presented as a guaranteed cure for logout problems. Visit Tado’s UK site.
- Google Nest: potentially suitable for households already using Google Home, subject to model, market, boiler and hot-water compatibility. See Google Store UK.
- Home Assistant: best for technically capable users who want extensive integrations and are prepared to manage networking, maintenance and compatibility. It can reduce dependence on a single vendor app in some setups, but cloud integrations may still be involved. Visit Home Assistant.
Verdict
The latest Hive releases fixed several named app faults, including an Android login crash and account-linking problems. They do not, based on Hive’s published information, prove that recurring automatic logout has been universally fixed. Install the latest version offered in your own UK App Store or Google Play listing, distinguish logout from offline-device and crash symptoms, test web access and another network, and escalate with evidence before considering replacement.
