Hisense TV Not Turning On? Here’s How to Fix It

A Hisense TV that “won’t turn on” may have no power at all, a failed remote, a stuck standby state, a boot problem, or a working TV with a black screen. Diagnose it in this order: test the outlet, bypass the power strip, unplug the TV for at least 60 seconds, try the physical power button, replace the remote batteries, and disconnect every external device. If neither the remote nor the TV’s own controls works after those checks—or the set clicks, flashes, smells hot, or repeatedly shuts down—it likely needs professional service.

Quick checklist

  1. Plug a lamp or another known-working device into the same outlet.
  2. Bypass any power strip, surge protector, UPS, or smart plug.
  3. Unplug the TV for at least 60 seconds, then reconnect it directly to the wall.
  4. Press the TV’s physical power button or joystick.
  5. Install fresh remote batteries and check their orientation.
  6. Disconnect HDMI, USB, antenna, Ethernet, optical, AV, soundbar, receiver, console, and streaming-device cables.

These are the basic checks recommended or supported by Hisense manuals. See the Hisense user-manual troubleshooting guidance for model-specific details.

First, identify what “not turning on” means

Symptom What it may indicate
No standby light, sound, or response Outlet, power strip, cord, switch, internal power supply, or mainboard problem
Standby light is on, but the remote does nothing Remote batteries, pairing, sensor obstruction, or a software standby problem
Light changes or blinks, but the screen stays black Boot failure, backlight, panel, mainboard, or protection shutdown
Sound is present but there is no picture The TV is powered on; investigate the input, brightness, backlight, or display hardware
The Hisense logo appears and disappears Possible boot loop, firmware problem, overheating, or hardware fault
The TV works only after unplugging it A temporary standby or software lockup may be clearing; recurring failures need attention

Do not assume that a particular red, white, or blinking LED color identifies one failed component. Hisense uses different platforms and model generations, so indicator colors and blink patterns are not universal.

Safety: when to stop immediately

Unplug the TV and do not continue testing if you notice smoke, a burning smell, sparking, liquid exposure, visible damage, a hot or damaged power connector, repeated loud clicking, or abnormal electrical noise.

Do not remove the rear cover unless you are qualified to work on television power circuitry. Internal capacitors and power components can remain hazardous even after the TV has been unplugged. If the television is wall-mounted, avoid pulling, twisting, or pressing the panel while checking cables.

1. Check the outlet and the entire power path

  1. Plug a lamp or another known-working device into the same outlet. If it does not work, check the breaker, wall switch, or outlet.
  2. If the TV uses a power strip, surge protector, smart plug, or UPS, bypass it temporarily.
  3. Connect the TV directly to a known-good wall outlet.
  4. Reseat the power cord at both ends if your model has a detachable cord.
  5. Inspect the cord for cuts, crushed sections, loose connectors, or heat damage.
  6. If the set has a physical power switch, make sure it has not been moved to an off position.

Use another power cord only if it is correctly rated and designed for the exact TV. A working outlet does not prove that the TV’s internal power supply is healthy, and a missing standby light does not automatically prove that the TV itself has failed.

2. Perform the 60-second Hisense power reset

  1. Disconnect external devices from the TV.
  2. Unplug the TV from the wall.
  3. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  4. Plug it directly into a known-good wall outlet.
  5. Wait briefly for the standby indicator.
  6. Try the TV’s physical power control, then try the remote.

Hisense manuals specifically describe unplugging and reconnecting the TV after 60 seconds for certain no-power conditions. A longer button-hold procedure—such as holding the physical power button while the TV is unplugged—is sometimes suggested for particular models, but it is not a universal Hisense instruction. Treat it as model-dependent rather than a guaranteed fix.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. Try the TV’s physical power button

The control may be under the center bezel, underneath the set, or on the rear or side. Depending on the model, it may be a button or a small joystick. Press it once. Some Hisense televisions open a small control menu instead of powering on immediately; the exact behavior varies.

If the TV starts with its physical control but not with the remote, the television’s main power function is probably working. Concentrate on batteries, pairing, the remote sensor, or remote compatibility. Hisense manuals recommend testing the TV’s own power button when the remote does not turn it on. See the Hisense remote and physical-button guidance.

4. Test the remote

  • Replace both batteries with fresh batteries.
  • Check the positive and negative orientation.
  • Remove objects that could block the TV’s sensor.
  • Point the remote directly at the TV and press Power.
  • If the remote has a status light, check whether it flashes when a button is pressed.

Some Hisense remotes use infrared; others use Bluetooth or another wireless connection. A phone-camera test may show an infrared remote emitting light, but it does not reliably test Bluetooth or RF remotes. It therefore cannot prove that a wireless remote is working.

A phone remote app normally requires the TV to be powered and connected to the same network. A universal remote may require a model-specific code, and a Bluetooth remote may need pairing. None of these options can repair a TV that does not respond to its physical control.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

5. Disconnect every external device

With the TV unplugged, remove connections from:

  • HDMI ports
  • USB ports
  • Ethernet
  • Antenna or coaxial input
  • Optical audio and AV inputs
  • Soundbars, receivers, cable boxes, consoles, and streaming devices

Reconnect only the TV’s power cord and try again. A connected device or cable can sometimes contribute to an HDMI-CEC conflict, an input-switching problem, a USB boot hang, or a startup failure. That is a diagnostic possibility, not proof that a particular device caused the fault.

If the TV starts, reconnect devices one at a time. Test the set after each connection so you can identify the device or cable associated with the problem.

6. Interpret the standby light carefully

Indicator behavior What it establishes Next step
No visible light There is no visible standby indication; power may not be reaching the set, or the indicator may be disabled or difficult to see Test the outlet, direct-wall connection, cord, and physical button
Steady standby light The TV is receiving at least some power and is likely in standby Try the physical button, remote, 60-second reset, and external-device removal
Light changes when Power is pressed The TV is receiving a command or attempting to change state Check for a logo, sound, picture, or immediate shutdown
Repeated blinking A fault, boot attempt, or model-specific status may be occurring Record the exact pattern and consult the model manual or Hisense support
No visible light but picture or sound appears The indicator may be disabled or hidden by the viewing angle Treat the TV as operating and troubleshoot the picture or input

Record the model number, serial number, LED color, number of flashes, whether the pattern repeats, whether a logo briefly appears, whether sound is audible, and whether the physical button responds. Do not convert an internet-reported blink count into a universal Hisense error code unless the manual for your exact model confirms it.

7. If the TV turns on but the screen is black

A black screen is not the same as no power. Check whether the standby light changes, whether you hear sound, and whether pressing Home or Volume produces any response.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Confirm that the correct input is selected.
  • Check whether the external source is powered on.
  • Try Home or another built-in TV control.
  • Look for a very dim image rather than a completely unlit screen.
  • Note whether the Hisense logo appears briefly before the screen goes dark.

If there is sound but no picture, possible areas include the backlight, panel, video-processing circuitry, input configuration, or software. You cannot identify the failed part from an LED color alone. If the TV responds but never produces an image after the reset and input checks, arrange service.

8. What to do if it is stuck on the logo or keeps restarting

Disconnect all external devices and perform the 60-second power reset. If the TV repeatedly cycles between the logo, a black screen, and standby, or works only after repeated unplugging, the problem may involve software, overheating, the mainboard, the power system, or another internal component.

Do not repeatedly power-cycle a set that is clicking, sparking, unusually hot, or producing a burning smell. Those symptoms are a stopping point, not an invitation to try more resets.

9. Factory reset and firmware recovery

A factory reset is not a first-line fix for a TV that cannot boot. It erases accounts, apps, Wi-Fi settings, channels, and picture preferences, and it may be impossible if the TV never displays its menu.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Consider a factory reset only when:

  • The TV reaches its settings menu.
  • The issue began after a software or settings change.
  • You have recorded necessary Wi-Fi credentials and understand what will be erased.
  • You follow the menu path in the manual for the exact model.

Hisense televisions use multiple platforms and generations, including Roku TV, Google TV, Fire TV, VIDAA, and older interfaces. Do not use one universal button combination. Start with the Hisense support page and search by the complete model number.

If the TV still reaches its menu, look for a model-specific system-update option such as Settings > Support > System Update. Labels vary. Do not unplug the TV during an update. Attempt USB recovery only with firmware intended for the exact model and region and only by following Hisense’s instructions. Never install a random firmware file or an unverified recovery sequence.

When the TV needs service

Stop troubleshooting and seek support when:

  • There is no standby response after a known-good outlet and direct-wall test.
  • Neither the remote nor the physical button produces a response.
  • The set repeatedly clicks, flashes, shuts down, or cycles through startup.
  • The screen flashes briefly and goes dark.
  • There is smoke, a burning smell, liquid damage, or visible cord or board damage.
  • The TV works only after repeated unplugging.
  • A reset fixes it temporarily but the failure returns.

Possible internal causes include the power board, mainboard, backlight system, panel, or firmware. These are possibilities requiring diagnosis, not conclusions that can be made from the symptom or LED color alone.

Warranty and Hisense support

If the TV is new or still within its applicable coverage, do not open it or buy internal parts before checking warranty service. Have the model number, serial number, purchase date, receipt, and seller information ready.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For the United States, Hisense lists TV and audio support at 1-888-935-8880. The support hours listed by Hisense are Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–9 p.m. Eastern Time, and Saturday–Sunday, 9 a.m.–6 p.m. Eastern Time. Confirm current details on the Hisense contact page.

Hisense’s warranty documents can allow repair or a like-new or refurbished replacement at Hisense’s discretion, and proof of purchase may be required. Warranty terms vary by model, purchase, seller, and country; an older U.S. one-year warranty card should not be treated as universal current coverage. Products bought from unauthorized resellers may not qualify for the manufacturer’s warranty. Check the support hub, the authorized-retailer information, and your exact warranty document.

Outside the United States, use the Hisense global support directory. Phone numbers, menus, service availability, and warranty rules vary by country.

Should you repair or replace an out-of-warranty TV?

Get a written diagnosis before approving a repair. Ask about labor, parts, transport, and the repair warranty. A replacement remote or batteries make sense when the physical button works but the remote does not. A professional diagnosis is more appropriate when the TV has no physical-button response, enters a boot loop, or has a suspected power, mainboard, backlight, or panel fault.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Compare the complete repair cost with the value of the TV only after the fault is identified. Do not buy a new television—or an internal replacement board—based solely on a blinking light or a generic internet diagnosis.

Bottom line

Start with the free, low-risk checks: verify the outlet, bypass the power strip, unplug the TV for 60 seconds, try the physical control, replace the remote batteries, and remove every external cable. If the TV remains unresponsive, repeatedly shuts down, produces abnormal noises, or shows a recurring black-screen or boot-loop problem, stop testing and contact Hisense or a qualified repair technician—especially while warranty coverage may still apply.
