A Hisense TV that will not connect to Wi‐Fi does not necessarily have a failed wireless chip. First identify the symptom: the TV may see no networks, reject the password, connect without internet, or disconnect repeatedly. Check another device, restart the TV and router, forget and reconnect to Wi‐Fi, test a phone hotspot, and try Ethernet before considering a factory reset or repair.
Identify the exact problem first
| What you see | What it usually indicates |
|---|---|
| No Wi‐Fi networks appear | Range, Wi‐Fi settings, unsupported band or security mode, firmware, or wireless hardware |
| The network appears but the password fails | Incorrect credentials, keyboard error, saved-profile problem, or router authentication settings |
| Wi‐Fi connects but there is no internet | DHCP, gateway, DNS, filtering, ISP, date/time, or service problems |
| The connection drops repeatedly | Weak signal, interference, mesh roaming, band steering, firmware, overheating, or failing hardware |
| A phone hotspot works but home Wi‐Fi does not | The TV’s wireless function probably works; investigate the router configuration |
| Only one app fails | An app or external service problem, not necessarily a Wi‐Fi failure |
Hisense sells TVs using different platforms and menus by model and region. Check the home screen, model information, or manual before following platform-specific instructions. Hisense separates support by operating system in its TV support information.

Safe fixes to try first
1. Check whether the network or TV is at fault
- Confirm that a phone or laptop on the same Wi‐Fi can open several websites.
- Test the TV close to the router.
- Try connecting the TV to a phone hotspot.
- If every device fails, troubleshoot the modem, router, or ISP.
- If the hotspot works, focus on the home router’s band, security, filtering, DNS, or mesh configuration.
- If the TV fails on both networks, investigate its software or hardware.
2. Power-cycle the TV and network
Use the TV’s Restart command if available. Otherwise turn it off, unplug it for at least 60 seconds, reconnect it, and try again. Standby may not fully clear the TV’s network state.
For the network, unplug the modem or gateway and router for about 60 seconds. Reconnect the modem or gateway first, wait for its connection lights to stabilize, then reconnect the separate router and wait several minutes before testing the TV. Google recommends restarting network equipment and the TV before using more destructive fixes; see its Google TV troubleshooting guidance.

3. Forget the Wi‐Fi network and reconnect
- Open Network, Network & Internet, or Wi‐Fi.
- Select the saved network and choose Forget, Remove, or the equivalent.
- Restart the TV.
- Select the network again and carefully re-enter the password.
Passwords are case-sensitive, and on-screen keyboards make punctuation easy to mistype. If the router uses separate network names for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, test each separately. Avoid a guest network until the normal network works.
Instructions by Hisense TV platform
Google TV or Android TV
On current Google TV models, try Settings → Network & Internet → Wi‐Fi. For updates, use Settings → System → About → System update → Check for update; to restart, use Settings → System → Restart. Older Android TV software may use different labels.
Some Hisense Google TV documentation also provides Add new network for a hidden SSID. Consult the Hisense model manual for your exact television.
VIDAA
VIDAA’s published firmware path is System Settings → Support → System Upgrade → Check Firmware Upgrade. Wi‐Fi labels vary by model and version, so use the model-specific Hisense manual when you cannot find Network, Network Configuration, or Wireless. VIDAA directs manufacturer-specific support questions to the TV brand through its support page.
Roku TV
From the Roku home screen, open Settings and use the network settings or Check connection option. Hisense’s Roku connectivity guide covers older Roku models. Roku says that some Roku TVs can be updated manually by USB when internet updating is impossible, but availability depends on the exact model and software version; see its update guidance.
Fire TV and other regional platforms
Menu names and reset procedures differ. Use the TV’s model page and manual rather than applying a Google TV, Roku, or VIDAA path to a different platform.
When the TV sees Wi‐Fi but has no internet
“Connected to Wi‐Fi” only means the TV associated with the router. It may still lack an IP address, gateway route, DNS resolution, or access through the ISP.

- Try another app and, if available, a website.
- Open the TV’s connection details and check for an IP address, gateway, DNS status, and connection-test result.
- If there is no IP address, investigate DHCP, device limits, and router access control.
- If the TV has an IP and gateway but DNS fails, return DNS to automatic and temporarily disable router-level filtering or DNS protection.
- Check that the TV’s date and time are correct.
- Test Ethernet or a phone hotspot.
If the TV allows manual DNS, automatic DNS should be the first choice. A reputable public DNS service can be a temporary diagnostic test, not a universal cure. Changing DNS will not repair weak signal, incompatible security, or damaged hardware. Hisense support material also identifies DNS as a possible connection remedy in some regional troubleshooting cases.
Test Wi‐Fi bands and router settings carefully
2.4 GHz versus 5 GHz
Try 2.4 GHz when the TV is far from the router or separated by walls. Try 5 GHz close to the router if the model supports it. 5 GHz is not universally better, and band support varies by model and region. Temporarily give the bands different names so band steering cannot move the TV between them.
Security and access controls
Older TVs may not support every modern wireless configuration. Check the manual, then temporarily test a separately named 2.4-GHz network using a compatible WPA mode. Do not leave the household network unencrypted or on obsolete security. Never use an open network as a permanent solution.
For testing, change only one router setting at a time and record the original value. Relevant settings include Smart Connect or band steering, MAC filtering, parental controls, device limits, guest-network isolation, VPN or DNS filtering, and access-control lists. Enterprise authentication and captive-portal networks may not work with smart TVs. Hotel, dormitory, school, and public Wi‐Fi requiring browser login should not be used as the main test; Google documents captive-portal limitations for streaming devices.
Fix weak signal and repeated disconnections
If the TV works beside the router but not in its normal position, coverage or interference is more likely than a bad password. Move the router out from behind the TV and away from cabinets, metal objects, microwaves, cordless-phone equipment, and other wireless devices. Check mesh-node placement and whether the TV is attaching to a distant node.
An extender helps only when it receives a good signal. A poorly placed extender can repeat a weak connection and add roaming or latency problems. If possible, use a properly placed access point or mesh node with Ethernet backhaul.

Use Ethernet as both a solution and a test
- Connect the TV directly to the router with a known-good Ethernet cable.
- Wait for the wired connection to be detected.
- Run the TV’s connection test and try streaming.
If Ethernet works while Wi‐Fi does not, focus on wireless coverage, router compatibility, or the TV’s Wi‐Fi hardware. If Ethernet also fails, investigate the router, ISP, TV software, or a broader network fault. Hisense documentation describes automatic DHCP for wired connections and manual IP settings when automatic configuration fails.
Factory-reset only after the other tests
A factory reset can clear corrupted settings, but it erases installed apps, sign-ins, picture and audio settings, parental controls, paired devices, and saved networks. Record passwords, app accounts, model information, and preferred settings first.
It is reasonable after the TV fails on multiple networks, firmware is current, and restarting and forgetting the network have not helped. It is unlikely to help when the router is offline, only one app fails, the TV works on a hotspot, or the evidence points to weak coverage.
Is the Hisense TV’s Wi‐Fi hardware broken?
Hardware failure becomes more plausible when all of these are true: the TV sees no networks even beside a working router, it fails on a phone hotspot, it continues failing after a restart and factory reset, current firmware is installed, and Ethernet works or provides the only reliable connection. This is not proof, but it is a strong reason to stop changing router settings and contact Hisense or the retailer.
Have the model number, serial number, region, operating system, firmware version, exact error message, and results of the hotspot and Ethernet tests ready. Start with Hisense support, or use the support site for your country.
Choose the next action
| Test result | Best next action |
|---|---|
| Hotspot works | Troubleshoot home-router settings, coverage, and filtering |
| Ethernet works | Use Ethernet if practical, or arrange Wi‐Fi repair |
| No networks appear nearby | Check model-specific firmware and contact Hisense if it persists |
| Only one app fails | Update, reinstall, or troubleshoot that app |
| Every device fails | Troubleshoot the modem, router, or ISP |
| Reset and hotspot both fail | Request warranty service or a repair assessment |
Practical alternatives
If the TV panel and HDMI inputs work, an external streaming device can bypass some built-in smart-TV software problems, but it still needs a working network. A basic Ethernet cable is preferable to an expensive cable when wiring is practical. A mesh system or additional access point is appropriate when multiple devices have poor coverage—not when the TV fails beside the router and on a hotspot. For an older, out-of-warranty TV, compare the repair quote with an external streamer or replacement before spending on wireless equipment.
