Henderson Councilwoman Carrie Cox and mayoral candidate Hollie Chadwick are sharing their own updates about construction and traffic disruptions on Reimagine Boulder Highway. Their posts aim to make it easier for residents to see where roadblocks, heavy work and delays may affect trips. For current closures, detours and schedules, the City of Henderson says to check its official channels or ReimagineBoulderHighway.com.
Why candidates are posting construction updates
At a campaign town hall, Chadwick said residents need to know where roadblocks and heavy construction will be, and where traffic jams may occur when they travel to work or run errands. In a Sept. 29 social-media post, she wrote, “You shouldn’t have to decipher a complicated map just to figure out how to get home.”
Cox said residents had told her city or contractor updates could be too technical. Both candidates say their posts are intended to make construction impacts easier to understand. The city has cautioned that information from other sources may not be timely or accurate; Mayor Michelle Romero also accused Cox and Chadwick of misleading residents. Those are the city and mayor’s assessments, not an independent comparison of the updates.
What Reimagine Boulder Highway is changing
The project covers 7.5 miles between Wagonwheel Drive and Tulip Falls Drive. Its design reduces the roadway from six traffic lanes to four and adds wider sidewalks, protected bike lanes and center-running bus rapid transit.

Other improvements reported by the City of Henderson include nearly 80,000 square feet of new sidewalk, 18,000 feet of storm-drain pipe and more than 100 streetlights. These project figures were relayed by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Use candidate posts for their explanations of local concerns, but verify time-sensitive travel decisions against the city’s current information. A social-media post or map can become outdated as work moves or a closure changes.
Project status, cost and schedule claims
The Review-Journal reported that the city website listed more than 70 percent of contracted work as complete as of August 2026. The $184 million project began in August 2024 and is expected to finish in 2027, according to figures attributed to the city.

The project’s cost status is disputed in the reported accounts. Chadwick called it over budget, while Romero said it was on time and on budget. The article does not independently resolve the budget claim, so neither characterization should be treated as independently verified here.
The Regional Transportation Commission requested an additional $12 million for transit shelters in 2025; the Review-Journal reported that the RTC was paying most of that amount. That request is distinct from evidence about whether the overall project is over budget.

Business impacts and traffic concerns
Chadwick said at least four businesses had closed because construction reduced foot traffic. The reported account does not independently establish the number of closures or prove that construction caused them.
Henderson resident Gene Stump, who frequently drives through the work zone, warned, “To go from three lanes to two is gonna be a disaster.” That is his concern about future congestion, not an engineering forecast. The article does not provide a traffic analysis establishing what congestion will result from the lane changes.

How the project reached construction
- Talks about improvements to Boulder Highway date to 2002, according to the Review-Journal.
- In 2020, the Regional Transportation Commission approved the Reimagine Boulder Highway study, and Henderson City Council adopted an investment strategy naming the project a top priority.
- Construction began in August 2024.
