If a Heat Surge fireplace will not turn on, produces no heat, or ignores its remote, start by identifying the model and checking its controls, power supply, and airflow. Heat Surge units use different controls and reset instructions, so follow the manual for your exact fireplace rather than applying one model’s steps to every unit.
Identify your Heat Surge model first
Look for the model name or number on the unit or its manual. The steps below distinguish the Widescreen Multi Color Flame, the Touch Screen Controls model, and older Hybrid-Thermic models. Their control layouts, reset guidance, and safety instructions are not interchangeable.
If the fireplace has no power
Widescreen Multi Color Flame
Check that the master switch on the back of the unit is set to ON; the fireplace will not operate with this switch off. Then try the controls on the bottom-right panel. The official Widescreen Multi Color Flame manual says the unit returns to factory mode when power is restored after an interruption.
Older Hybrid-Thermic models
The troubleshooting section in the reproduced Hybrid-Thermic manual lists the plug, wall switch, power button, tip-over status, and household breaker as checks for a unit with no power. These checks apply to the models covered by that manual; consult your own manual if your fireplace is a different design.

If the flame works but there is no heat
Check the Widescreen heater setting
On the Widescreen Multi Color Flame, flame and heat are separate controls, but the flame must be on for the heater to operate. Cycle through the heater settings and check the display: “LL” is low heat at about 750 W, “HH” is high heat at about 1500 W, and “00” means heat is off. These are settings for this model, not codes for every Heat Surge fireplace.
The Widescreen thermostat can be set from 62°F to 82°F. Once the room reaches the selected temperature, the heater stops and starts again when the room cools below that setting. A fan that runs for 30 seconds and blows cool air after the heater switches off is normal, according to the Widescreen manual.

Check older Hybrid-Thermic controls
For the Hybrid-Thermic models covered by its manual, set the thermostat high and check the heat-mode buttons. Do not use the Widescreen display codes or thermostat range on these older units.
If the remote does not respond
For the Widescreen Multi Color Flame, install two AAA batteries, matching the polarity marks in the compartment. Aim the remote at the front of the fireplace and pause between button presses. Try the panel controls as well: if they work but the remote does not, first check the batteries and how the remote is being used. The official manual does not describe a pairing procedure. Other models may use a different remote or batteries, so check their manuals.

Reset only as directed for your model
The Heat Surge owner’s manual for the Touch Screen Controls model gives this reset instruction: “This heater has a self-protection function. If the heater does not operate normally, to reset the heater, unplug the power cord from outlet for 15 minutes. Then plug the power cord back in for reuse of the heater.” The instruction appears in a manual reproduced by Manuals+; it is not verified as a reset procedure for every Heat Surge fireplace.
Check airflow and clean safely
Blocked vents can interfere with operation and create a safety risk. For the Widescreen Multi Color Flame, keep the front outlet and grilles uncovered, away from curtains and blankets, and maintain at least one foot of clear space around the unit. The Touch Screen Controls manual separately warns not to block the air intake or exhaust. Follow the clearance specified for your model rather than treating those instructions as identical.

Unplug the fireplace before cleaning. The Widescreen manual recommends cleaning vents with a soft brush or vacuum; the Touch Screen Controls manual recommends periodically vacuuming rear intake vents to remove dust or lint. Do not open the unit or attempt internal electrical repairs. The Touch Screen Controls manual directs service beyond cleaning to an authorized service representative.

The Touch Screen Controls manual calls for a properly grounded outlet and says not to use an extension cord, adapter, power strip, or surge protector. It also warns against loose-fitting outlets. Follow your model’s manual and local electrical requirements. If the plug or outlet becomes very hot, stop using the fireplace and consult a qualified electrician.

When to stop troubleshooting
Stop using the unit if its cord or outlet is damaged or unusually hot. If model-appropriate checks and reset instructions do not restore operation, contact Heat Surge or an authorized service representative instead of opening the fireplace. The Touch Screen Controls manual lists Heat Surge customer service at 1-800-924-7964, but support contact details can change; verify current information before calling. That manual also says unauthorized repair attempts are not covered by its warranty.
