The Home Builders Association of Northwest Indiana (HBANWI) and the Lake County IN Economic Alliance (LCEA) will co-host the 2026 Economic Outlook Breakfast on Thursday, October 15, at Halls of St. George in Schererville, Indiana. The event will bring economic development, finance and residential construction perspectives together to discuss how housing, infrastructure and workforce development can keep pace with investment in Northwest Indiana. The announcement, last updated October 6, 2026, directs readers to HBANWI.com for event information and tickets.
What the breakfast will discuss
The event is framed around a practical question: as employers and developers invest in the region, how can communities ensure housing, infrastructure and workforce development keep up? The announced discussion will consider how local businesses can benefit from new investment, what infrastructure large-scale development requires, and how communities can balance economic opportunity with housing affordability and quality of life.
The announcement identifies artificial intelligence and data centers among the investments prompting the broader conversation. It presents the breakfast as relevant to business owners, builders, developers, Realtors, municipal and elected officials, economic development professionals and community leaders.

Steiner Homes, LTD. is named as the event sponsor; Schillings and Pharr Nissan of Chesterton are identified as leading supporters. The announcement quotes LCEA President and CEO Chris Salatas describing housing and economic development as closely connected, and HBANWI Executive Officer Jennifer Young emphasizing that investment must be matched by homes and neighborhoods that support growth.
How to interpret the job figures
The announcement reports more than 2,000 permanent jobs and 10,000 construction or contractor jobs associated with developments it identifies as Amazon, John Deere and Daifuku expanding staffing in Lake County. It does not provide an underlying study, methodology or separate original source for those figures. They should therefore be read as numbers reported in the event announcement, not as independently verified regional employment estimates.
