The Harbor Freight “mini table saw” people discuss is a historical 4-inch hobby saw, identified in owner discussions as the Chicago Tools Mighty-Mite 4—not one of Harbor Freight’s current compact table saws. Hobbyists have mentioned it for kumiko, narrow crosscuts and picture-frame miters, but the available accounts are dated owner reports, not a hands-on review or verified performance test. Its small work surface and reported control and power limitations make it a specialized curiosity, not a substitute for a construction or general woodworking saw.

Which Harbor Freight mini saw is this?

The name refers to a historical 4-inch saw discussed as the Chicago Tools “Mighty-Mite 4” Table Saw. Harbor Freight’s current search results for “mini table saw” show WARRIOR 10-inch and HERCULES 10-inch and 8-1/4-inch saws, not this historical model. That distinction matters: specifications or reviews for the retailer’s current saws cannot be applied to the Mighty-Mite. Harbor Freight’s current search results also do not establish whether the older model can be found secondhand or elsewhere.

No official manual or archived manufacturer specification page for the historical saw was located. Accordingly, its cutting capacity, durability, accuracy and formal specifications are not established here.

What hobbyists say they used it for

Owner discussions point to small, detail-oriented work rather than ordinary construction cuts:

  • Picture-frame miters: A 2019 woodworking discussion mentions using the tiny Harbor Freight saw for picture-frame miters and treats small hobby/model-making saws as a separate tool category. This is an anecdotal use report, not evidence of repeatable miter accuracy. WoodworkingTalk discussion
  • Model making: A 2022 Ships of Scale thread identifies the Chicago Tools Mighty-Mite 4-inch table saw, while one participant reports poor cutting and a weak motor. That is a single user’s subjective experience. Ships of Scale discussion

What the reports suggest—and what they do not establish

Work surface

In the 2023 Sawmill Creek discussion, moderator Jim Becker wrote, “I wish the table was bigger. It is only a little over 4" square. We’ll see how it works out.” This is an owner’s description, not a manufacturer-verified measurement. It does convey the practical concern: a very small table gives limited support for positioning and guiding stock.

Power and cut quality

A Sawmill Creek participant described the saw as having less than one amp of power; a Ships of Scale participant characterized its motor as weak and said it cut poorly. These are forum comments, not manufacturer ratings or controlled tests. They warrant caution about expecting it to handle demanding cuts, but do not establish how every example performs or what materials it can cut reliably.

  • POWERFUL 15A MOTOR - Power for a range of applications like ripping down sheets of plywood, cross-cutting 2x4s for framing, cutting dado joints, and more
  • COMPACT SIZE - Portable for easy transportation and storage

Guidance and adjustment

The same Sawmill Creek participant reported no rip fence, a loose miter gauge and a table that can tilt. Those observations are not independently verified specifications. If considering a used example, inspect the actual tool’s fence or guide arrangement, miter control, table stability and condition rather than assuming every saw is configured or maintained identically.

Is it any good for a small woodworking job?

The evidence supports a limited answer: hobbyists have tried it for tiny, specialized tasks, but the available reports do not establish that it makes accurate, repeatable cuts. A 2023 owner intended to use it on pieces no wider than 1/2 inch; that is not proof that 1/2 inch is a safe or tested capacity. Likewise, mention of picture-frame miters does not show that it can reliably produce square, consistent miters.

For a used saw, evaluate the particular unit against the work rather than relying on the “mini” label. Check whether stock is supported throughout the cut, whether the guide can be set and held securely, whether the table stays stable, and whether the motor sustains the intended cut without bogging down. Those are inspection questions, not confirmed features or test results for this model.

How it differs from current Harbor Freight saws

The old 4-inch Mighty-Mite is a hobby-scale tool; Harbor Freight’s current search results include substantially larger 8-1/4-inch and 10-inch table saws. Harbor Freight’s current 15-amp 10-inch table saw provides a scale contrast, not a like-for-like alternative or evidence about the mini saw’s performance. Harbor Freight 15-amp 10-inch table saw

For miniature woodworking, hobbyists have also named Micro-Mark miniature saws and Byrnes Model Machines. The available discussion does not establish the current models, specifications, prices or availability of either brand, so a head-to-head ranking would be unsupported. Buying or replacing parts

Current retail availability for the Mighty-Mite is unconfirmed. Harbor Freight’s present search results omit it, but that does not answer whether a used unit is listed on a resale marketplace. If searching, “4 inch mini table saw” is a straightforward query; verify the seller’s exact model, condition, included guides and return terms. No current listing, price or affiliate eligibility is established.

  • High Quality & Sturdy: The bottom of the table saw adopts four metal brackets, which can make the cutting work more firmly

A 4-inch blade may appear to be a plausible replacement search, but the cited owner discussions do not establish arbor compatibility. Check the saw’s actual arbor and the replacement blade’s specifications before purchase; do not assume that matching blade diameter is enough.

When comparing any miniature saw for hobby work, focus on stock size and thickness, support area, fence and miter adjustment, cut repeatability, motor capability for the material, safety provisions, and current availability and price. Those are comparison criteria, not a finding that one named saw leads the category.
