The City of Stirling proposed about 50 temporary overflow parking bays on part of Hamersley Public Golf Course’s 10th fairway after demand outstripped the venue’s parking supply. The available City material does not confirm whether Council approved the proposal or whether the bays were built.
Why Hamersley Golf Course needed more parking
Hamersley Public Golf Course reopened in December 2024 after a $20 million redevelopment that included a new driving range and 71 additional parking bays. The City of Stirling reported about 132,000 visitors in the first three months after reopening, including 32,000 driving-range visitors; these were City-reported totals, not independently audited counts. In its 18 November 2025 committee agenda, the City said parking still regularly overflowed, particularly on weekends. Officers described vehicles parked along Marmion Avenue and College Court as illegal and unsafe. An occupancy survey conducted from 29 March to 11 April 2025 recorded 104 instances of illegal parking, with peak demand consistently exceeding available bays. The agenda said the City had tried signage, shifting peak event periods and off-site parking agreements, but the overflow problem persisted.

What the proposed overflow car park included
The committee agenda outlined approximately 50 bays on part of the 10th fairway, connected to the existing car park by a hardstand access route. The concept also included an extension to the pedestrian path network, safety fencing and vegetation screening. The proposal would use part of a playing fairway for temporary parking, trading course space for additional capacity and a more organised connection to the existing parking area. The City’s February 2026 material also referred to a permanent upgrade in the future, but did not provide a confirmed scope or delivery date for that work. Changes to the golf holes
PerthNow reported that the design would relocate the 10th tee and alter the 18th hole to preserve the course rating: the 10th would change from a par four to a par three, and the 18th from a par four to a par five. Tree impacts were subject to assessment
The committee agenda said the design could change following arborist advice. It referred to three trees that might be removed, subject to arborist assessment and regulatory approval, while stating that tuart trees would be retained and protected. Has the Hamersley overflow car park been built?
Completion is not confirmed in the available official material. The November 2025 agenda said the temporary solution was expected by June 2026, but a target date is not evidence that construction finished. A City attachment from February 2026 still described temporary overflow parking as a plan. The City’s venue guide published on 19 June 2026 mentions free onsite parking and venue facilities but does not confirm the proposed overflow bays. PerthNow reported that Council was due to vote on the proposal on 25 November 2025. The sources cited here do not establish the outcome of that vote. Accordingly, the proposal’s approval, any final design or cost, and construction status remain unresolved.
