What is being built and when will work start?
Guelph’s Water Services Department issued the construction notice on October 16, 2026. Drilling is tentatively scheduled to start October 26, 2026, with the installation expected to take about three to four weeks if weather conditions allow. Because the start date and duration are estimates, daily conditions could affect the schedule and the final completion date.

The City has not published a final completion date, drilling contractor, drilling method, well depth, equipment details or project budget in the notice. Those details should not be assumed from the project description.
Why is Guelph installing a monitoring well?
The well is an environmental-monitoring project in an area that contributes to Guelph’s drinking-water supply. Measurements from the site will help the City improve its understanding of local geology and groundwater conditions.

The notice states that “The well will be used exclusively to monitor groundwater levels and collect groundwater information.” It is therefore not a new production well and will not be used to pump water or provide a water-supply connection.
Which part of Mollison Park will be closed?
Temporary work area
During drilling, the grassy area immediately south of the Tanager Drive entrance will be closed temporarily to pedestrians. The restriction applies to that work area while construction is underway.

Areas that remain available
- The Tanager Drive entrance will remain open.
- Pedestrians can continue using the remainder of Mollison Park.
- The notice does not announce a full-park closure.
Visitors should follow on-site barriers and signs rather than entering the active drilling area. The notice does not specify an alternate route map, so park users should allow for a short detour around the marked work zone.

No. The City says there will be no interruptions to City services as a result of this work. Waste-collection schedules will not change. Residents should continue placing green, blue and grey carts at the curb on their regular collection day.

What residents should plan for
- Expect drilling activity near the south side of the Tanager Drive entrance from the tentatively scheduled October 26 start.
- Use the entrance and open portions of the park, while avoiding the signed grassy work area.
- Keep regular waste-collection routines; no special cart arrangements are required.
- Check the City’s construction page for schedule updates during the estimated three-to-four-week project period.
