How the Ranch began
In the owners’ account, founder Jared Hughes began propagating succulents while working in horticulture and attending college, drawn to plants he considered low-care and easy to propagate. He started the business at his parents’ farm in Cardington, Ohio, selling plants at farmers markets and expanding the collection. Jared and Liz later moved the business to Marengo after an opportunity to acquire the Ranch property; the story says Liz joined the business full-time in 2016. Its visit page lists daily hours of 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The official FAQ says general admission does not require a ticket, while classes and workshops are ticketed.
