The closure is part of continuing bridge rehabilitation. The October work is reported to include removing parts of the bridge deck and sealing it against water seepage.
The project follows summer work that began with a planned June 1 closure to lift the bridge and access its counterweights. The Press-Gazette reported that the contractor’s reopening was postponed twice during the summer and that the city extended the completion date into fall. At a Sept. 30 Improvement and Service Committee meeting, Public Works Director Valerie Joosten said the contractor “did have some issues during construction,” but did not elaborate, according to the newspaper.

Project schedule and traffic context
The Press-Gazette reported that Green Bay awarded Lunda Construction a $1.4 million rehabilitation contract in April 2026. Bid documents initially called for completion by Sept. 30; city engineers later extended the completion date into fall.
The newspaper reported that city engineer Kayla Wasielewski estimated about 13,000 vehicles use the bridge daily, citing her email. It described the bridge as downtown Green Bay’s second most-travelled bridge. The figure is an attributed estimate, not a newly verified traffic count.
