Who won the Big Creek Tunnel contract?
Granite-Super Joint Venture, Granite Construction’s partnership with Super Excavators, was awarded the contract by the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD). Granite announced the award on October 1, 2026, in a release carried by Business Wire. The contract is valued at approximately $324.8 million, and Granite said it would be included in its third-quarter 2026 CAP.
What does the project involve?
The Big Creek Tunnel is part of NEORSD’s Project Clean Lake, a water-quality program Granite describes as a $3 billion, 24-year effort that began in 2011. The announcement calls Big Creek the last of seven large-diameter combined sewer overflow storage tunnels constructed under the program.
Main tunnel and related work
The stated scope includes 22,300 linear feet of 20-foot-diameter tunnel and 3,115 feet of ancillary tunnels. The contract also covers shafts, diversion and gate structures, screening structures, gate-control vaults, consolidation sewers, an overflow box culvert, sitework, restoration and utilities.

Intended environmental outcome
Granite says the completed project is intended to eliminate 550 million gallons of combined sewer releases annually. That is the announced expected outcome, not a measured result reported after completion. Granite Tunnel Division Vice President Jim Nickerson said the project’s scale and complexity align with the company’s strengths in large-diameter tunneling and shaft construction. He also described it as a major wastewater infrastructure project intended to strengthen system performance and protect local waterways across Northeast Ohio.
When is construction scheduled?
Granite’s announcement says construction is scheduled to begin in fall 2026 and is expected to finish in winter 2030. These are planned dates; the announcement does not establish that construction has begun or guarantee the completion date.

What does GVA at EUR 106.00 mean?
AD HOC NEWS reported that GVA was quoted at EUR 106.00 on the Lang & Schwarz venue at 12:20 p.m. CEST on October 6, 2026, up 0.47% from a prior close of EUR 105.50. This is a dated secondary-source snapshot in euros. It should not be read as a live quote or as Granite’s NYSE share price in U.S. dollars.
The same report identifies Granite Construction as NYSE-listed GVA and separately gives a USD 97.26–162.08 52-week range and a USD 5.2 billion market capitalization as of October 5, 2026. Those figures are in U.S. dollars and tied to that report’s stated date; they are not current market data.
