C-Crete’s granite-based concrete was reportedly poured in July 2024 for a 12-cubic-yard (9.2-cubic-meter) topping slab in the upper lobby of 270 Park Avenue in Manhattan. That is a limited placement—not the concrete used throughout the skyscraper. And while the project was framed as a carbon-neutral concrete milestone, the available evidence does not establish that this particular mix was carbon-neutral over its full lifecycle.
Where the granite-based concrete was used
New Atlas reported that the placement took place in July 2024 in an upper-lobby topping slab at 270 Park Avenue, JPMorganChase’s future global headquarters. The topping slab is a layer placed over another concrete surface; it is not the tower’s entire structural frame. The report describes the building as 1,388 feet (423 meters) tall and designed by Foster + Partners. New Atlas’s report gives the project details.
The reported quantity—12 cubic yards—makes this a notable commercial placement, but not evidence of building-wide adoption. The report does not say that granite-based concrete was used for the full tower or other structural elements.
What granite-based concrete is
According to C-Crete president Rouzbeh Savary, as reported by New Atlas, the binder starts with raw granite that is ground and then treated through proprietary steps to make the powder reactive with water. The report says those steps require no heat, but does not disclose the chemistry.
#1 Best Overall
- FOR EASY REPAIRS — It's the ideal concrete patch repair mix, neatly fixing cracks and spalls so your property looks like new. It's even textured for a more seamless blend with the existing structure
- TOUGH AND DURABLE — Formulated to avoid shrinking or cracking, the ready-to-use premixed cement patch offers good adhesion and high strength so your slabs, walls & walkways/sidewalks perform as good as ever
- EASY CLEANUP — Sika concrete patch is acrylic-based, so once application is done, it cleans up using only water. No need for special cleaners and chemicals
- GREEN — It follows regulations concerning the use of volatile organic compounds (VOC), helping to keep the air we breathe cleaner and fresher
- A BREEZE TO USE — Minimal prep is required, since it comes premixed. Just use a putty or trowel to spread where repairs are needed. It takes only a few hours to set and about a day for a full cure
Granite is a non-carbonate rock. Unlike limestone-based feedstock, it does not release carbon dioxide through the calcination reaction associated with making conventional cement. That feedstock distinction may avoid one source of process emissions, but it is not a complete emissions accounting: energy for processing, transport, batching and other lifecycle inputs still matter.
C-Crete describes its broader platform as cement-free concrete made with natural rocks or industrial by-products, placed using conventional construction methods. The company also claims low carbon footprint, cost parity and performance at or above conventional concrete. Those are company-wide claims and should not automatically be read as verified results for the specific granite batch placed at 270 Park Avenue. C-Crete’s website outlines the company’s own product and project descriptions.

What is known about performance and cost
Placement and performance
New Atlas attributes claims to C-Crete that the granite mix demonstrated pumpability, workability, setting time and surface finish akin to conventional concrete; that it met ASTM international standards for mechanical and durability properties; and that independent third parties verified this. The report does not identify the laboratory, provide test results or name the applicable ASTM standards. Those details are therefore not independently assessable from the reported information.
Cost
Savary reportedly said the granite version should cost about the same as traditional concrete. C-Crete also claims cost parity for its broader product line. Neither source provides a price for the 270 Park Avenue placement or an independent cost comparison, so parity remains a company expectation rather than a confirmed project cost.

Does this establish carbon neutrality?
No. The reported use and the non-carbonate feedstock are meaningful, but neither establishes that the 270 Park Avenue mix was carbon-neutral. The sources reviewed do not provide a product-specific lifecycle emissions figure or an independently reviewed environmental product declaration for this granite mix. Without a defined lifecycle boundary and quantified emissions, the carbon saved by this placement cannot be calculated from the available reporting.
For owners and project teams assessing lower-carbon concrete, useful evidence includes the binder and feedstock, lifecycle assessment boundary and results, independently documented strength and durability tests, placement compatibility, project scale and availability, and delivered cost. The available information does not provide equivalent comparative datasets for ranking this material against other concrete alternatives.

What project teams should verify
C-Crete says it works through local supply chains and ready-mix partners and invites project inquiries. Availability and terms for a particular region or for the granite formulation should be confirmed directly with the company and relevant suppliers; the reported Manhattan placement does not establish broad market availability.
