Govee’s Smart Plug Outlet Extender With Night Light (H5089) turns one wall receptacle into a compact power hub with six AC outlets, two USB sockets and an RGB night light. It is an unusually useful idea for a bedside table, home office, rental or hallway—but the “8-in-1” label does not mean eight independently controllable smart outlets. Only two of the six AC outlets are identified as smart.
What the Govee H5089 actually is
This is a three-sided, wall-mounted outlet extender designed to expand a crowded receptacle without leaving a loose extension cord across the floor. Govee positions it as a combination of outlet expansion, selective smart control, USB charging and ambient lighting.

According to Govee’s US product listing, the unit includes timers, schedules, Alexa and Google Assistant support, wide outlet spacing, screw mounting, overload protection, surge protection and 5VA fire-retardant construction.

How the “8-in-1” count works

The eight counted connections are therefore two smart AC outlets, four ordinary AC outlets and two USB sockets. The integrated night light is an extra feature. T3 reported at launch that the USB connections were one USB-A and one USB-C, but Govee’s current product page describes them only as “two USB sockets.” Their output wattage, charging protocols and control behavior should be verified from the live packaging or manual before purchase.

Why the design is interesting
The appeal is the combination rather than any single breakthrough feature. A single wall-mounted unit provides:
- Two AC sockets that can be switched remotely or scheduled.
- Four AC sockets that remain powered for ordinary chargers and equipment.
- Two USB charging connections.
- An RGB night light with more than 15 effects, according to Govee.
- Wide spacing intended to reduce interference between larger plugs.
- Screw mounting to help keep the extender stable when plugs are inserted or removed.
Govee lists outlet spacing of 52 mm, while launch coverage described it as approximately 1.97 inches. Those figures are equivalent when rounded.
What the smart outlets can do
The two designated smart AC outlets can be controlled through the Govee Home app, with timers and schedules available. Govee also lists Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant compatibility.

It does not establish that the four always-on AC outlets are remotely controllable. Nor does the available listing clearly explain whether the USB sockets or night light can be scheduled independently.
Do not confuse this product with a six-outlet smart power strip. Its central trade-off is more physical connections in exchange for less outlet-by-outlet intelligence.

Where it makes sense
Bedside tables
This is probably the clearest use case. USB charging can handle phones or wearables, one smart outlet can control a lamp, and the night light can provide low-level visibility without turning on a main light. The remaining outlets can stay available for permanently powered devices.
Home offices
The always-on outlets can serve monitors, chargers and peripherals, while a smart outlet can schedule a desk lamp or another suitable accessory. The wall-mounted form also avoids adding another power strip to the floor.

A smart outlet could be used for scheduled power cycling of equipment designed to tolerate interruption. However, automatically cutting power to a router, NAS, security camera or external drive can cause downtime, lost connectivity or interrupted operations. Scheduling should be used only when the equipment and its manufacturer instructions support it.
Rentals, dorms and guest rooms
Because it expands an existing receptacle rather than requiring rewiring, the H5089 may suit renters or dorm rooms. Screw mounting can help prevent movement, although users should check whether installation is permitted and whether the unit blocks part of the wall plate or the neighboring receptacle.
Hallways
The night-light function may be more valuable here than the smart outlets. It appears intended for ambient or safety illumination, not as a replacement for a bright room lamp.

Important limitations before buying
It is not a high-load appliance solution
Do not treat overload protection as permission to connect high-wattage appliances. Avoid using this kind of compact extender for space heaters, air conditioners, microwaves, kettles, toasters, hair dryers or other large appliances unless the complete electrical rating and manufacturer instructions explicitly allow it. Devices with motors or compressors also deserve particular caution.
The available official listing does not clearly expose the maximum total load, per-outlet amperage or a detailed surge-protection joule rating. Those figures should be confirmed before using the unit for anything beyond ordinary low- and moderate-power household electronics.
The USB specification is incomplete
The published information does not establish USB-C Power Delivery, fast-charging support, output wattage or a particular charging protocol. If fast charging is important, a dedicated USB-C charger with a clearly stated power rating is the safer choice.
Large adapters may still cause obstruction
Wide spacing helps, but oversized laptop bricks, right-angle adapters and bulky transformers can still block neighboring sockets. Check the product photographs and dimensions carefully. Also confirm that the extender will not cover a problematic portion of the wall plate or make the second receptacle unusable.
Protection claims need context
Govee says the product has surge and overload protection, an indicator for surge-protection status and 5VA fire-retardant construction. These are manufacturer claims, not evidence that it offers the same protection as a certified surge protector with a published joule rating. Buyers purchasing primarily for surge protection should choose a product with complete, independently verifiable specifications.

Price and availability
The original T3 launch article, published on October 29, 2025, reported a US preorder price of $32.99 with delivery expected in early November. That is a historical launch price, not a reliable current price.
On the US Govee pages checked on August 18, 2026, promotional price signals varied from approximately $29.75 to $59.50, with different list-price references and apparent variant or page-state differences. Check the live Govee listing at checkout and confirm the country, exact variant or pack size, sale conditions, shipping and the complete specification.
When an alternative is better
- Basic smart plug plus USB charger: Better if only one device needs automation and you want simpler hardware.
- Conventional surge-protected power strip: Better when you need a cable, outlets positioned away from the wall or a clearly published surge rating.
- Multiple compact smart plugs: Better when every controlled device needs its own schedule, although this adds wall bulk.
- Smart wall outlet: Better for a permanent installation, provided you own the property or have permission and are comfortable with electrical work.
- TP-Link Tapo P306: This is a comparable smart Wi-Fi wall outlet extender with a smart night light. Its official datasheet lists dimensions of approximately 6.6 × 3.9 × 1.3 inches. Choose it if you already use Tapo; choose Govee if the RGB effects and Govee Home ecosystem matter more.
Verdict
Govee’s H5089 is a genuinely clever wall-outlet extender for mixed-use spaces. It combines six AC connections, two USB sockets, selective automation and a night light in a form that could reduce clutter around a bed, desk or hallway.
Buy it when you specifically want two smart outlets plus four permanent outlets, rather than six smart outlets. Skip it if you need independent control of every connection, USB-C fast charging, energy monitoring, a long cable, Matter or Apple Home support, or a fully documented high-load and surge-protection specification. Its value is convenience and versatility—not the raw capability of a complete smart power strip.
