Yes—certain GoveeLife and Govee smart electric space heaters were voluntarily recalled in the United States and Canada. The affected models can overheat, creating fire and burn hazards. Owners should stop using an affected heater, unplug it, cut its power cord only when it is safely disconnected, and submit a refund claim through Govee’s official recall portal.
The U.S. recall was announced on November 7, 2024, and is listed by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) as recall 25-036. The recall does not cover every Govee product.

Do this now if your heater matches a recalled model
- Turn the heater off.
- Unplug it from the electrical outlet.
- Only after it is disconnected from power and safe to handle, cut the power cord so the heater cannot be used again.
- Photograph the disabled heater, its manufacturer/model label, and the serial-number code if it is separately shown.
- Submit the claim at recall.goveelife.com/heater-recall.
Do not handle a unit that is smoking, sparking, burning, unusually hot, or visibly dangerous. Move away, call emergency services when appropriate, and follow fire-safety guidance instead of trying to cut the cord or take photographs.
Which Govee heaters are recalled?
Check the model number—not just the brand name printed on the front. The recalled heaters may be labeled either GoveeLife or Govee.

The model number is generally printed on the manufacturer’s label on the underside of the heater. Depending on the unit, additional labeling may appear on its side or front. The recalled heaters were sold in black and white and ranged from approximately 9 to 26 inches in height.
According to Govee, no other GoveeLife or Govee products are affected by this particular recall. A Govee smart light, sensor, fan, or another appliance is not automatically included simply because it carries the Govee name.
Why were the heaters recalled?
The affected heaters can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards. Testing cited by the CPSC and Govee found that the heaters did not comply with the voluntary industry safety standard UL 1278; the cited risk involved wireless-control functions.
This does not mean that every recalled heater has already failed or that every unit will catch fire. It does mean the product category and specified models present a recognized safety risk. The CPSC reported 113 overheating reports, seven fires, and one minor burn injury associated with the recalled heaters.

About 512,500 units were sold in the United States and approximately 48,600 in Canada. The products were sold online through Amazon.com, Govee’s website, the Govee Home App, and TikTok Shop from approximately September 2021 through September 2024, at prices ranging from about $30 to $150.

- Heater model number.
- Serial number or SN code.
- Original order number, if available.
- Your name and contact information.
- A photograph of the manufacturer’s label.
- A photograph showing that the power cord has been cut.
- A photograph showing the permanently disabled heater.
Refund amounts with and without an order number
According to the CPSC, consumers who provide the original order number are eligible for a full refund of the purchase price. Consumers who no longer have the original order number can still submit a claim and may receive between $31.80 and $106.63, depending on the model.

The range is model-dependent. Do not assume every claimant without an order number will receive the maximum amount, and do not enter an invented order number.
Search old Amazon, Govee, TikTok Shop, email, or payment records if you need to locate the purchase. Govee lists [email protected] for help with order information.
Does the heater need to be returned?
The published recall instructions direct consumers to unplug the heater, cut its power cord, and submit photographs showing the disabled product. They do not describe shipping the heater back as the standard remedy.
Do not send the heater anywhere unless Govee or the recall administrator specifically instructs you to do so. Keep your claim confirmation and any instructions you receive.

What if the heater still works normally?
Stop using it if its model number appears in the recall. The CPSC and Govee instruct owners to stop using affected heaters even when a particular unit has never overheated or caused a problem. Normal past operation does not establish that the unit is excluded from the recall.
What if you lost the order number?
A missing order number does not necessarily make you ineligible. Submit the claim with the correct model, serial information, photographs, and any purchase details you can provide. The documented U.S. remedy for consumers without the original order number is a model-dependent refund of $31.80 to $106.63.
If the heater was a gift, bought secondhand, or purchased through an account you can no longer access, provide the product information and contact Govee if the form requires details you do not have. The available recall information does not resolve every secondhand-ownership situation, so do not assume approval or rejection before the recall administrator reviews the claim.
What if the heater is already damaged or unsafe to handle?
The cord-cutting instructions assume the heater can be safely switched off, unplugged, and handled. Do not touch or move a heater that is actively smoking, sparking, burning, or dangerously hot just to satisfy the claim process. Leave the area and contact emergency services when appropriate.

If the heater has already been discarded, the ordinary claim process may be difficult because it requests product-identification and destruction photographs. Contact Govee directly rather than submitting fabricated photographs or information.
Canada: the same models are covered
Health Canada lists the same model range and instructs Canadian consumers to stop using the affected units and register for a refund. The Canadian remedy process and currency may differ from the U.S. process.
Canadian owners should use the Health Canada recall notice and follow its country-specific registration instructions. Do not automatically extend this documented recall remedy to Europe, Australia, or another country without country-specific confirmation.

The published recall information identifies a refund as the remedy. It does not establish a general replacement-heater program. Do not assume Govee will provide a replacement unless the company confirms that option for your specific claim.
If you buy another heater, check its current recall status, recognized safety certification, tip-over shutoff, overheat protection, physical controls, remote-start behavior, and manufacturer support separately. Those factors are not a substitute for completing the recall claim.
