Google’s US Store product pages listed the doorbell at $199.99 when accessed October 4, 2026; prices and retailer stock can change.
Before buying, compare the retailer’s live product page with the final checkout total. The available evidence does not establish a current $40 offer, Amazon availability, or a price history.
How the doorbell is powered and installed
Battery or existing doorbell wiring
The Nest Doorbell (Battery) has a rechargeable battery and can be installed on battery power or connected to existing doorbell wiring. On battery alone, it does not ring the existing wired chime. Compatible wiring may power the doorbell and allow the chime to ring, but suitability depends on the transformer and chime.

Google’s US specifications list wired input at 8–24 VAC, 10 VA, 50–60 Hz. Its compatibility guidance gives the battery model a range of 8–24 V AC and 10–40 VA. Check the transformer label and Google’s doorbell compatibility guidance rather than assuming existing wiring will work.
App and account requirements

Video history and subscription considerations
This doorbell records event-based video history, not continuous 24/7 video history—even when wired. Google states: “Whether you choose battery or wired installation, the Nest Doorbell (battery) cannot continuously record 24/7 video history.” Google lists up to three hours of event history included; longer history is available through paid Google Home Premium plans. Exact subscription pricing is not established here, so check the current plan terms when calculating the ongoing cost.
Google’s product page distinguishes this battery model from its wired third-generation doorbell, which can offer continuous history with the appropriate plan. If continuous recording is essential, compare the wired model and its plan requirements before choosing.

The following are manufacturer specifications from Google, not independent test results:
- HD video resolution: 960 × 1280, with HDR and night vision.
- 145-degree diagonal field of view.
- Two-way audio.
- IP54 weather resistance and stated operating temperatures from −20°C to 40°C.
- 45% recycled content across plastic parts; Google does not state a year for this figure on the cited page.
For a building project, the practical checks are whether the mounting position captures the approach clearly, whether the installation location meets the stated operating conditions, and whether the existing low-voltage transformer and chime are compatible.

Who should consider it—and what to verify
- Consider it if battery operation is useful, Google Home is already your preferred ecosystem, and event-based recording meets your needs.
- Compare alternatives if you need 24/7 video history, a permanently wired-only device, another app ecosystem, or a different transformer/chime arrangement.
- Confirm before purchase the live price, included history, current subscription terms, and wiring compatibility for your home.
For an angled mounting position, Google’s setup information names the Wasserstein Horizontal Angle Mount for Nest Doorbell (battery). An indoor power adapter is a separate, conditional option for some installations; Google says it is sold separately and may be available only in some countries. Check suitability and local availability rather than assuming either accessory is required.
