If your Golden Technologies lift chair remote is not working, start by checking the chair’s power and accessible cable connections, then use any SmartTek indicator lights to narrow down the problem. A remote is only one possible cause: the outlet, transformer, motor wiring, lockout, calibration, or control box may also be involved. Reset and calibration steps differ by hand-control model, so use the instructions for your exact chair and control.
Identify your chair and hand control
Before troubleshooting, note the chair model and serial number and inspect the labels on the hand control and its cable. Golden says a lift-chair serial number may be on the lift frame, hand-control cable, or in the owner manual. These details help Golden or the retailer identify the right instructions and service options.
Find the matching manual on Golden’s support page. Golden makes different lift-recliner and control families; do not assume a button sequence or connector layout applies to every chair.
Check outlet power and accessible connections
Golden advises checking that the chair is plugged into an outlet and that the home’s fuse or circuit breaker is working. A switched outlet may also be off. Then visually check that accessible chair cables and plugs are fully connected as described in the manual. Possible causes listed in Golden’s universal manual include an unplugged transformer or chair cable, a transformer fault, or a disconnected motor or control-box cable.

Keep this to visual checks and reconnecting accessible plugs according to the chair manual. Do not open the transformer, motor, or control box; the manufacturer instructions cited here do not direct owners to service those components internally.
Use SmartTek lights to narrow down the fault
On applicable Golden SmartTek chairs, green indicators are found on the transformer, the wire between the motor and transformer, and the hand control. Depending on the control, its indicator may be a green LED or illuminated AutoDrive buttons. Golden describes SmartTek as “a patented diagnostic system that communicates the electrical health of the recliner using a series of LED lights.” The lights can help locate where power may be interrupted, but they do not by themselves confirm which component needs replacement.
| Indicator pattern or symptom | What Golden’s guidance indicates | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| All applicable lights are off | Power may not be reaching the chair, or connections may not be fully plugged together. | Recheck the outlet, fuse or breaker, and accessible connections. |
| Transformer LED is off | Power may not be reaching the transformer, or the transformer may have malfunctioned. | Check the outlet and connections; contact service if the light remains off. |
| Transformer LED is on, but the motor-to-transformer cable LED is off | Golden’s guidance indicates power is not coming from the transformer to the motor. | Do not open components; seek diagnosis from Golden, the retailer, or a qualified service provider. |
| Chair does not work and the hand-control LED or button backlighting is off | A hand-control defect is one possible explanation. | Check the power and connections first, then arrange diagnosis if the control remains unlit. |
Indicator locations or availability depend on the chair and control. If your chair does not have these lights, use its manual rather than inferring a fault from the absence of an indicator.

Check whether the control is locked
Golden AutoDrive controls have full and partial lockout modes. Full lockout disables all buttons. Partial lockout disables position and custom-control buttons while leaving Rise and Recline available. If only some buttons respond, lockout is one possibility; check the exact hand-control instructions for how to identify or change its lockout state.

Reset or recalibrate only with model-matched instructions
AutoDrive reset and calibration procedures vary by hand-control family. Golden’s instruction sheet, identified as P/N MSWSADRR-GT, File INF-AutoDrive-10.06.2021, gives separate guidance for specified controls. It includes power-disruption calibration for certain 4- and 5-zone models, and says the PR510, PR766, and PR535 ZKAD-5 hand control cannot be calibrated in the field. It also documents positioning-accuracy and factory-default-reset procedures for listed controls.

Match the hand-control model and exact button labels to the official instructions before attempting a sequence. A reset can affect saved positions or calibration. If the labels or model do not match, skip the sequence and contact the retailer or Golden technical support instead of trying a procedure from another control.

The lift chair does not function at all
Start with outlet power and accessible connections, then check applicable SmartTek indicators. If those basic checks do not resolve the issue, a transformer, wiring, hand control, or control-box problem may need service diagnosis.

The lift chair partially functions
If some buttons or movements work and others do not, consider partial lockout and consult the control-specific instructions. A partial response does not establish that the remote itself is faulty.

The system is out of calibration
Use only the calibration guidance for the exact hand-control family. If the control is one Golden identifies as not field-calibratable, or you cannot confidently match it to the instructions, have the retailer or Golden advise on service.
When to contact Golden or a service provider
If power and accessible connections check out but the chair still will not respond, or an indicator pattern points to a component fault, contact Golden technical support, the retailer, or a Golden-recommended service location. Golden’s support information includes manuals, technical support contact details, and a service-location route. Golden says it does not service chairs at the factory and directs owners to local service recommendations.
When asking about a replacement hand control, verify the chair model, control model or part number, connector, and required features with Golden or the retailer. Golden documents multiple control families, so a generic remote should not be assumed compatible. If power interruptions recur in your area, Golden’s 2021 instructions recommend a separate battery backup for the specified 4- and 5-zone scenario on models built before 2021; this addresses recurring interruptions, not a remote malfunction.
